Omg I am so thankful that I found this thread and messages from all of you women going through the same issue!
I am 43, never had a missed period until after I went through what I thought was the flu back in January. I actually believe that I had the coronavirus, which I believed may have stopped my period altogether:
I very ill for a month and a half. At one point, I was having a hard time breathing, even just walking was a task and I would cough every few steps on our small incline of the hill up to our house. . I finally went in to have my Dr. do a chest x-ray and my lungs were so clouded, she thought I had pneumonia, but the results came back as bronchitis. I was prescribed antibiotics (that did not seem to help, at all) and an inhaler that I used quite frequently for the last 3 weeks of my "illness" and it had taken a long time for my lungs to heal once I started feeling better.
Now for the part that actually relates to this thread...
My period completely stopped for over 2 months after being sick for so long. I would have breast tenderness and slight cramping, but never any period. My best friend told me that I was most likely experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms, but when I looked up those symptoms, it sounded nothing like what I was experiencing(god forbid I tell Ms. know-it-all she was wrong though lol).
I eventually contacted my Dr., again to tell her what I was experiencing and I believed my amenorrhea was related to my prolonged illness. My Dr. did not find me to be peri-menopausal after reviewing my signs and symptoms, and she ran a few blood tests as well to rule out other things. I was prescribed the mini-pill (progesterin only and suppresses ovulation) to bring on a period and hopes of regulating it. I took the 28 day mini-pill pack and got two periods in one month, however I stopped taking it after only one month of being on it because the periods were too heavy and it negatively affected my moods. After a month and a half of stopping it, I finally got a period that started on it's own. I am hoping that they will now go back to normal.
I made a few more appointments to rule out other things that could be the issue and hoping for the best.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope whoever reads this, gets some sort of peace of mind as well. You are not alone.
