Which shop will you be visiting first?

With non essential shops now planning to open on 15th June, where do you plan on visiting first?

For me, it's John Lewis! I'm 26 weeks pregnant and starting to purchase bits for baby.

Primark and IKEA.

However I'm in no rush for either so happy to leave it until I know how it's going to work.

I have been sensible and worked out exactly what my kids needed and bought that from super markets. I dont really NEED anything and without school runs or coffee dates I'm happy in my t shirt dresses for the foreseeable

user49er · 27/05/2020 09:56

Matalan is open by me... very chilled, no queuing, no one way... it won't be as bad as some think.. bigger stores in retail parks never seem to get too many customers anyway...

Saladmakesmesad · 27/05/2020 10:00

None. I barely shopped in store before this and won’t at all now for quite some time.

Legoandloldolls · 27/05/2020 10:10

School shoes are the only things we need. However even my reception dd isnt guaranteed a ace in June as only 10 out of 30 are going back. So until I know for sure its Asda shoes. I'm not going to face the hell of Clark's fittings if she isnt going back.

ursuslemonade · 27/05/2020 10:16

Tk maxx. But ideally I want the kids back in school and nursery for that to happen.
No enjoyment in dragging a 3 yo to tk maxx.....

ssd · 27/05/2020 13:16

I'm so not in a rush to go back to the shops. I've found these last 2 months quite nice getting a break from them. Lock down has certainly changed my shopping habits. No more wandering round the shops, looking to get out the house.

ssd · 27/05/2020 13:24

I seen something on the news last night that if you try anything on it needs to be steam cleaned before hoping back onto the racks!!
What a palaver. Does the virus live on clothes then?

bulletjournalbilly · 27/05/2020 14:16

@ssd who knows?! But how ridiculous

Changing rooms closed so people try on at home, contaminate clothes (allegedly) at home, return to store, for a second trip .... which allegedly spreads the virus 🙄

Mnthrowaway20202 · 27/05/2020 14:22

Again, M&S has changing rooms open as normal so some clothing retailers will allow you to try things on in store.

It obviously depends on staff levels and the size of the store whether this is feasible or not. Changing rooms aren’t outright banned.

feelingverylazytoday · 27/05/2020 14:28

Charity furniture shop for me, to buy a new telly. After that it'll be primark.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2020 14:29

I thought only the food halls bit of M&S were open

Lonelycrab · 27/05/2020 14:34

Tk maxx for me. Was at the point where all my jeans were giving up the ghost just before lockdown so it’s overdue a visit

Mnthrowaway20202 · 27/05/2020 14:38

In my area, all M&S stores have opened their non-food departments. Most have also reopened all their entrances too so it’s no longer a strict 1 way system. Same with a larger Sainsbury’s.

Lockdownlooks · 27/05/2020 14:52

Quite a bit more time to go to a hairdresser.

Fluffyglitterystuff · 27/05/2020 15:02

I'm m not sure I'll be rushing back to the shops any time soon.

It won't be a pleasurable experience I doubt.

I liked taking my time browsing, trying things on, getting a coffee. I usually go just for a look, won't be worth queuing unless there's something specific you need that you can't get online.

I'd probably go to a homeware store many are already open anyway.

Delatron · 27/05/2020 15:02

None. Sounds like an awful experience. Queuing for ages etc.
I’ll just keep buying online..

ifonly4 · 27/05/2020 15:14

I can't stand the thought of time spent queuing, being patient while others look at items and the risk of buying something, it not fitting, and having to make another trip to try and return it. This coupled with having to get the bus and be at work for noon, means it's more trouble than it's worth to me.

Ulver · 27/05/2020 16:06

I want to go to M&S to buy socks and underwear.
I don’t trust anywhere online to get the right size. I will just buy the size I already wear so I don’t have to try anything on.
I’ve had a few misses in buying stuff online recently ie a Zara dress that was outrageously oversized like a tent and unwearable and a horrific Monsoon dress that I thought was lovely light Indian lawn cotton but was ugly heavy printed Jersey.

My best buys have been vintage eBay.

ssd · 27/05/2020 18:20

Just seen primark isn't opening initially, they will open when they feel its safe to do so.

CountessFrog · 27/05/2020 20:26

Clothes sales will go through the floor with changing rooms closed. I certainly won’t be buying any.

I bought some patio furniture last week, it was due delivery tomorrow. When they locked it from the warehouse, it turned out to be the wrong colour, so I had to get a refund. They initially refused to refund me over the phone and said I’d have to drive to the shop and stand in the queue outside to get a refund, despite the fact it was their error.

Shopping is utterly depressing right now.

cologne4711 · 27/05/2020 21:01

I don't think I actually will, I don't need anything. Maybe Fat Face but there isn't one in my town, and I don't want to drive somewhere and find there's a massive queue to get in, so I'll probably just stick to online.

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2020 21:02

I’m ok with online for me but toddler dd needs new shoes

bumblingbovine49 · 28/05/2020 18:09

None really. We buy most things (including clothes and shoes) online and have for years, though I did used to like an occasional mooch around the shops followed by lunch out or coffee and cake.

I see no reason to go shopping if I can't have lunch or coffee out or I have to social distance. I think shopping will be a miserable experience for a while so will keep shopping online until it isn't anymore.

TooOldForSims · 28/05/2020 18:16

Lush!

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 28/05/2020 18:21

A huge second hand bookshop that I'd planned to visit just when lockdown happened.
I was going to make a real trip of it too, browse around the books, go in the cafe etc.
So....there I think!
