DH says he has read this on a local paper this evening. I am trying to find things and it does say July but not neccessarily the 1st. We have a holiday booked to Spain on the 2nd and we really don't want to go!
Its our first in years and the kids are only 7 & 4. It won't be the holiday we wanted for them at all.
Has anyone else read this today?

Weve got a group booking for Disney Land Paris in July. At the moment Disney are saying it will go ahead, although we can rebook for a later date if we want to. I want to rebook. No one else does.
Although if passports applications arent being processed that could be an issue as we don't have them

gingajewel · 26/05/2020 23:41

Maybe different for us as they were first time passports!

PorpentiaScamander · 26/05/2020 23:47

The website says to only apply if you need them on compassionate grounds.

Gammeldragz · 26/05/2020 23:47

I assumed our holiday to Portugal at the end of July would not go ahead, so I didn't renew our passports, which I was about to do. Now it's looking like it might to, which would be fine but now the passport office is saying don't apply for passports unless it's an urgent need! Rather unsure what to do now, insurance will only cover us if we aren't allowed to go which I had assumed would be the case. Flights are with easyjet, holiday let is with Airbnb which I can cancel or reschedule, the owners said they were fine with that.
I don't even know if I can go and get the DCs photos done for their passports!

Gammeldragz · 26/05/2020 23:48

Ahh, just seen the last few posts, not just us with the passport problems then!

PorpentiaScamander · 26/05/2020 23:53

That's kind of what I did @Gammeldragz
Didnt buy passports as I didn't think we would be going, and want them to last as long as possible on the off chance we can afford another foreign holiday.
Now it looks like we might be able to go. Although even if I could order passports I can't really afford them as my bills have gone up due to Corona

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 27/05/2020 00:01

It looks like the british government haven't actually said this yet and the article is writing in a misleading way

Quelle surprise.
The media have been shocking on the whole thing -they're trying to fit the narrative of what they think people want to hear.
"FREEDOM FROM MONDAY!"
Er, no, turned out to be nothing of the sort. We're still under a partial lockdown.
Nobody has said you can go on an abroad holiday from July 1st at all.
If they did turn around end of next week and say you could, why would you want to?
So many ifs and buts.
Quarantines, insurance, things being shut when you get there.....
Not worth it.

DBML · 27/05/2020 00:20

Absolutely! We’re supposed to be off to Florida from mid July. IF we can go, we’ll be at Heathrow airport bright and early.
Insurance is in place. I’m totally expecting FCO advice to be changed by July. All I’m waiting on is for Trump to open the borders and let us in for our vacation. Fingers crossed I guess.

DBML · 27/05/2020 00:21

Also factored in that 14 day return quarantine. No problem.

ButteryPuffin · 27/05/2020 00:35

@Echobelly I am hoping the airline goes under so I can claim the money back Seriously? That's thousands of people's jobs gone if it happens. Really unpleasant of you.

Gammeldragz · 27/05/2020 00:41

I'd put off getting passports to make them last as long as possible, as we need 5 of them and DCs ones last half as long but cost more than half as much as adults. Hadn't renewed when I planned due to not expecting holiday to go ahead and assuming future foreign travel would be out of our price range after all this (I reckon costs of flights will triple) so if we can't go on this holiday I doubt we will go abroad for quite a while!

The 14 day quarantine would screw ours, as I can't get get 4 weeks off work! But surely you can't lift the FCO Do Not Travel advice while still asking for quarantine? Either it's safe to travel or it isn't.
Hmmm, which outcome benefits the economy though?

highmarkingsnowbile · 27/05/2020 00:52

Apply for them anyway. They are still processing them, just trying to put people off. It doesn't have to be urgent, the online app asks you why and you just put renewal. It takes about a month now. I applied for 2 minor ones a little over 3 weeks ago, renewals, and was just informed they've been moved onto to being processed.

My ex lives in Spain and has booked flights for end July. When he arrives in the U.K. he has to quarantine in a hotel for a few days before being able to fly back out with our DCs. He’s not mentioned any quarantine once they arrive in Spain.

Tigerty · 27/05/2020 01:19

So flights are available in July to/from Spain.

Chillipeanuts · 27/05/2020 09:03

I just cannot see the government saying that thetres, gyms and hairdressers are still closed, but I can pass through an airport, get on a plane. mingle in spain in bars, pools and on beaches.”

Completely agree. Pie in the sky.

It’s 14 days, it really “a few” and as I understand it your children will also need to quarantine for 14 days when they return.

Chillipeanuts · 27/05/2020 09:06

Not really “a few”

sarahcoffeelover · 27/05/2020 09:44

If you don't have passports why all the hand wringing? There is literally nothing you can do now, just wait and see if travel is allowed. If it is, tough luck I'm afraid.
You say "it won't be the holiday we wanted for them at all" Well errr, no it won't because they don't have passports.
"We really don't want to go!" Well yea, you can't, you don't have a choice because you don't have passports.
Confused

DBML · 27/05/2020 10:09

@Chillipeanuts

By the end of July, I’d put money on all of those things being open in some capacity.

People need to go back to work. People need to earn money .

GabsAlot · 27/05/2020 12:40

@tigerty its 14 days and its another 14 days when your dc return for them

GabsAlot · 27/05/2020 18:18

easyjet are letting you move to another4 date as far as i know if people wouldrather do that than be forced to go

Spongebob79 · 27/05/2020 18:40

6th March myself and DH went on our planned holiday to Cyprus, this was just before it all started. 2 days into that trip someone in the hotel tested positive, we were quarantined in our rooms for 14 days and in that time the island shut down with no possible return flight home for us. Just under a month later with some help, we returned home.

I don’t see why anyone would want to go on a foreign holiday with the risk of this happening, being quarantined in a room being supplied awful food and water is not fun.

oohnicevase · 27/05/2020 19:14

@Spongebob79 that's what scares me . I have a son with sn and he won't understand why he will be trapped in a room like that .. would be a bloody nightmare . !

CaptainMerica · 27/05/2020 20:58

This is why Martin Lewis, Which, etc were irresponsible in advising people to pay their holiday balances, in order to be entitled to a refund.

Holiday companies have proved they would rather fly families out to quarantine in a tiny hotel room then refund a penny.

People are going to have to choose between going on a shit holiday that they don't want, or losing the money.

Hopefully, the very start of July will be too soon though, OP.

mumoftwodc · 28/05/2020 01:10

We have paid our final balance on our holiday. If we didn't pay then we were deemed to have cancelled the holiday and would have lost every penny. We are still expecting the travel company will cancel on us and we will receive a full refund.
