Without rewatching I can't say for sure, but I don't think he said we needed to get back. Just I needed to get back to work

He made out the whole country would go to pot if he couldn't get back to London.
Whilst there is nothing wrong with Mary staying up there, it's just another fudge of the truth, or in fact a lie. I don't think - if this is revealed - it will go down at all well

ParkheadParadise · 26/05/2020 20:36

Maybe that's what Preston was trying to say yesterday when he asked him if his wife had been anywhere else.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:37

Omg . Paddy Macguinness. That actually had me crying with laughter.

GrimmsFairytales · 26/05/2020 20:38

@ParkheadParadise

Maybe that's what Preston was trying to say yesterday when he asked him if his wife had been anywhere else.
His question definitely made suspicious that they know something else, something which DC had left out of his statement.

32 Tory MPs have publicly called for him to go.

How can Boris limp on with that?

One MP said he had 400 emails in his inbox overnight

Roussette · 26/05/2020 20:40

One more lie to be uncovered and he'll be gone for definite

Yes Paddy and Christine are great at getting the realities of autism across. Especially the spectrum. But having twins affected differently has help them demonstrate this. My son has asd. I respect everything the do for raising awareness. They seem to get the tone right.

32 Tory MPs have publicly called for him to go

How big's that majority?

SouthWestmom · 26/05/2020 20:45

Love the Paddy tweet

I felt a bit sorry for Peston tbh. He's getting teased on Twitter. I could never do that job or be a public figure.

Grimms - I feel that I need to get my hands on a foil hat and change my user name to Scully.

But, my conspiracy theory is that between the 1st and 12th April, Mary Wakefield took the car and drove to visit her Dad's castle.

This is why he was so quick to offer up location information on his phone, because it showed his whereabouts but not Mary's.

It explains why the question about petrol flawed him so much.

They both clearly think the rules dont apply to them, so what is one more outing to Mary Wakefield.

Anyway, probably time to think about something else, I am probably a tad over involved.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 20:47

Thing is. Even if police do investigate and find him there. That isn't isn't dispute. He's been clever enough to admit he was there.
What's in dispute is whether him being there is any way breached lockdown rules, law and guidance.

GrimmsFairytales · 26/05/2020 20:49

Anyway, probably time to think about something else, I am probably a tad over involved.

Absolutely not over involved, your explanation makes sense to me. I think having driven all that way and being so close to her parents, the temptation to visit them would have been too great.

Roussette · 26/05/2020 20:59

Joint Leader of the Green Party Jonathan Bartley has said this...

'I have written to the Cabinet Secretary asking why yesterday's press conference was permitted and for an investigation into the alteration of Dominic Cummings blog to add reference to Coronavirus - both of which appear to breach the special advisers code of conduct.'
(and has attached his letter on Twitter)

Belindabelle · 26/05/2020 21:00

I think given the child’s trip to hospital they did stay in Durham for the 14 days. I think she went to her parents with the child after he returned to London. As I said a few days ago, imagine if your daughter didn’t visit when she had come up from London and had spent time with the in-laws.

1forsorrow · 26/05/2020 21:08

Well they need to investigate his wife as well don't they.

PurplePansy05 · 26/05/2020 21:11

IMO it does matter whether he/she/both of them went somewhere else, i.e. to her parents. Firstly because he lied. Secondly because it's yet another blatant breach of the rules. Why would they be allowed to just go and see their parents as they please when 65 million people in this country (minus those living with their parents) could not, and still cannot, do the same thing? It makes me feel raging inside.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 26/05/2020 21:11

They talked about "right kind of childcare

Yeah. That'll be the 17 and the 20 year old nieces. Can only speak for my own nephews and nieces who are similar ages, but not a usual choice for childcare for a child with complex needs.

Sorry, just reading through

PurplePansy05 · 26/05/2020 21:13

I also think Peston knows what went on and they're prepping to drop a bombshell. I now remember he specifically asked DC yesterday if he went anywhere else and then added "And Mary?". I thought that was an odd question at the time, but now it makes sense.

Roussette · 26/05/2020 21:16

I agree, I'm sure his wife went off to the family castle to see her family.

41 Tory MPs now calling for DC to go.

This surely is now an untenable position for Boris

tiredvommachine · 26/05/2020 21:19

I've not had a response from my MP yet but he's apparently voicing his support of DC via his Facebook page. Duly noted for next election, mate.

Belindabelle · 26/05/2020 21:22

I know it doesn’t translate to votes but that’s the 80 seat majority gone then.

SouthWestmom · 26/05/2020 21:23

I meant it wouldn't matter if she'd stayed alone and he went back to work in London. If she then went to visit parents that's a different story.

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 26/05/2020 21:29

I've now learnt after this story that no matter how clear cut the position is, there will always be people who will argue against the facts. Some people just don't understand that not everything in this world is an opinion. How did we get here?

A breach of rules is a fact, not an opinion.

I now seriously worry about the fact that inevitably, some of these people sit as jurors at criminal trials. With zero understanding.
