Yes, there was an exceptional rule when there was risk to life. That was added for when people could suffer immediate danger by staying. I even heard that confirmed as immediate danger at a briefing at some point.

And yes, at some point it did say they understood with small children it would be difficult.
But does anyone actually have a screen shot of that information.

Preston was brilliant. That rattled old Matty boy. And I bet the feeling they did have access to childcare but didn't use it hence shutting him off before he could ask that!

GrimmsFairytales · 26/05/2020 17:42

And I bet the feeling they did have access to childcare but didn't use

Surely they must have some form of childcare, DC and MW work long hours, and I can't imagine a nursery covering it. I'll eat my hat if they don't usually have something in place.

YogaLite · 26/05/2020 17:42

Small child privacy?
He has been mentioned in the Spectator at least once already Hmm

Saucery · 26/05/2020 17:47

That’s down to his parents, Yoga . I was surprised they used him in that way at all tbh, but figured Cummings was attempting to emulate being a human being. Turns out he was. He knew they had been seen and wanted to sow the seeds of his fairy tale bog-eyed mercy dashes up and down the country without admitting they’d left London.

HeIenaDove · 26/05/2020 17:48

Jesus wept A friends husband has just shared a meme on fb saying that Dominic Cummings was doing the right thing for his kids and the meme says this......

"Man drives to Durham Self isolates Protects his kids . Media and lefties go into overdrive

Poor girl abused by grooming gangs in Barrow Beaten over a debt for not going to parties in lockdown Media silence.........nothing UK 2020"

Fucking unreal What shall i put as a response.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 17:48

I meant I bet Matty and wife didn't use their childcare they could access hence why he shut them down. That would have been really difficult to justify why Cummings travelled that far for childcare he didn't even use.

GrimmsFairytales · 26/05/2020 17:50

I meant I bet Matty and wife didn't use their childcare they could access hence why he shut them down.

Sorry, yes that makes more sense. Hence the rude shut down and moving on so quickly.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 17:51

If there's a media silence where did he hear about it?

And also front page is always highest public interest. So I'd suggest Cummings and Boris should be embarrassed they keep spewing such clap trap that it's distracting from what's happening.

And ask if him the 33 Tory MPs who don't support the decision are also lefties!

SouthWestmom · 26/05/2020 17:52

I'm definitely not signing up to the contact tracing thing. I don't trust them at all.

At the presser yesterday the only bit of guidance DC read out was the section on sticking to it to the best of your ability if you had kids. There is something about risk of harm in the regulations.

Done it @itsgettingweird Thanks

CricketCrocket · 26/05/2020 17:57

Civic duty? Fucking civic duty? That’s what people were doing when they didn’t hold their dying loved ones hand, didn’t visit sick relatives and didn’t go to their funerals.

FuckThisWind · 26/05/2020 17:59

The screenshots I've got on my phone are from 24 March. The reason I screenshotted was because of the 'transporting a child under 18 between two homes' issue.

Think that was before they added the bit put in regarding domestic abuse. It's been amended so many bloody times!

YogaLite · 26/05/2020 17:59

Well, the track and trace apparently not working so well yet, no way I would install that Angry

HeIenaDove · 26/05/2020 17:59

Using abused kids as whataboutery is a disgusting low blow Ugh I feel sick.

PurplePansy05 · 26/05/2020 18:00

It's tiring but we shouldn't just shut up about this because this is what they're banking on. Accountability is key. I think the way forward is to talk about for as long as needed to make them realise they need to get rid of him. The longer it goes on, the more likely the infighting amongst the Conservative Party will start and Johnson will have to go as well. Either he gets his act together asap or no one will cry after him and his creepy advisor.

YogaLite · 26/05/2020 18:02

My instincts tell me not to sign up to track and trace Grin

I think maybe their son has health comorbidities that mean he was admitted to hospital. But I’m uncomfortable pursuing that line of thought as the poor little lad can’t help who his parents are and even if they want to use him as a decoy in this shitshow I don’t have to join in with that.

At the time, the guidance allowed you to move a vulnerable person (elderly or health condition) out of your home to stay with friends or relatives. Cummings could have squashed the whole issue quite easily by saying that without going into exact details. But Cummings hasn't, and instead has tried to rely on a different part of the guidance regarding children.

And it still doesn't excuse the family outing to Barney.

GrimmsFairytales · 26/05/2020 18:08

Oh Carolyn that is brilliant. Grin

Note that the government’s reaction isn’t an expression of shock that people have been fined for doing something that was always permissible. It’s to review fines lawfully levied - i.e. to change the law retrospectively to try to exculpate Dom.

How will Matt hancock/the government compensate those whose family members died & they were unable to see them? There is no financial compensation for that! let's not get sucked into the gesture politics. Surely there's a reason why they selected this question.

ah - the reason is clear now. Scrapping the law is more convenient than binning Cummings. ( The clinicians in my TL are fuming at this, because of the risks to public health)

1forsorrow · 26/05/2020 18:31

Was the original advice the same as it is now, if you look at govt website it has been updated but you can only see the updated version, well I can. I don't remember the original advice saying that.

DoveOfPiss · 26/05/2020 18:35

At the risk of harping on, surely if the little boy had special medical needs, he would have been better off staying in London, where presumably he would be, you know, known to a consultant, maybe even in a specialist children's hospital???

still fuming.

But my MP did reply to my email and say he agreed that DC should be sacked and would be pressuring BJ to do so, along with several of his colleagues Grin
