We're all going on a Covid Spanish Holiday

Spain, the world's second most visited country, has announced it will lift its two-week quarantine rule on arriving overseas visitors from 1 July.

Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said the "worst was behind us".

"In July we will gradually open Spain to international tourists, lift the quarantine, ensure the highest standards of health safety," she tweeted.

Earlier, Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto called on tourists to start booking holidays for July.

Earlier this month, EU officials promised thatsummer is not cancelledin Europe.

The more I read of this, the more I think it’s to do with pressure from the holiday industry re refunds and less to do with what’s in the best interests of Spanish residents. Disgraceful.

I've got a friend that has got a shop (jewellery / clothes etc) in a big city in the south of Spain. her biggest shoppers are British. she's worried that she's going to close the shutters. as she's self employed she's not owed any unemployment money hence... what's she going to live from? so we might be trying to avoid having more Covid cases in spain but at the same time the unemployment rate is going to go up loads in those places were people have been working on tourism , and because of the 2008 recession many places already have a big unemployment rate (25%) and not everyone will be able to survive without an income.

many European countries are opening the door from the 15th June on (Greece and Italy are in June and are biggest sun competitors to spain) if spain doesn't open its doors then it'll be in a big problem . Spanish biggest pib comes from the Holliday industry .

I'm not saying noone should come. Just perhaps that countries with a higher number of daily infections no.

That people should be temperature checked at both ends of travel. And that masks should be obligatory for tourists as they are for us. The trouble is that we know that fines issued to tourists. For rule breaking many tourists will just ignore. Perhaps that anyone caught and fined isn't allowed to board the plane home if they don't pay up? I don't know. Something to encourage people coming in not to treat the rules with complete disdain.

Its not fair to blame the British people. They are not responsible for the spread of Covid in Spain.

We are victims of the mistakes our government have made just like the people of Spain.

After the phases have all been completed and the state of emergency is over, there might not be any fines though? Or legal requirements to wear a mask? Just advice, which can be disregarded, like here.

If the Spanish government feels that is appropriate at that stage, that's what will happen.

But yes, obviously if such restrictions remain then tourists should be subject to them too.

Greece and Iceland are reopening in middle July and everything they do is a pcr test. dont think masks are compulsory in these two countries.

tbh I believe it's all link (and this is my opinion only) with the estado de alarma, once this finishes then I'm not sure masks will be enforced as there is no reason to (the main reason for this was so that they all had the same laws and not each county having different ones) and right now where I'm from have got already different rules to those in phase 2. but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks, as mentioned before by BillieEilish Gov keep pivoting between rules (not only kids but also hairdressers and are more things)
