Spain, the world's second most visited country, has announced it will lift its two-week quarantine rule on arriving overseas visitors from 1 July.

Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said the "worst was behind us".

"In July we will gradually open Spain to international tourists, lift the quarantine, ensure the highest standards of health safety," she tweeted.

Earlier, Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto called on tourists to start booking holidays for July.

Earlier this month, EU officials promised thatsummer is not cancelledin Europe.

Mine are 100% not opening and I read and see the news daily, the UK is not who Spain is open to. Beaches are shut. In one month I do not see UK tourist flooding in at all.

I'll double check with Spanish DH tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Loudspeakers and police saying two meter distance. face masks, gloves in supermarkets. Methinks not.

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:26

Plenty of tourists other than Brits, millions. That followed lockdown.

Inkpaperstars · 25/05/2020 23:29

What are air bridges exactly? Just places we can treat as if they weren't abroad for quarantine purpose?

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:29

… and I know why I've been indoors, thanks! Well aware.

That’s not brits. Neither the ones that were in the bars in my hometown (a non touristic place ) not the ones that were in the beach in la concha in San Sebastián in the last days. Or the ones in la barceloneta a few weeks ago. Have you never heard the sentence “picardía española”?

I read the news as well. Speak to my family and friends who have been in Spain during this time (I’ve not) but ... that’s what Sánchez and his team have announced this weekend : opened to the world as of 1st of July so if anyone wants to go over there they’re welcome. If they don’t then they’re in a tough position as flights will depart and so hotels will be opened (not all but some)

EasterIssland · 25/05/2020 23:32

@Inkpaperstars Yes exactly. But as of now there is no Laws about it and even if they were news say British are welcome (I’ve read mentioned France Italy and uk but I know germans can fly as well as read in some other news )

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:35

Good @EasterIssland but I live here and am living it.. I have given my opinion. You have given yours (well, your family and friends)

As I said, I think some tourists might be allowed in, but not Brits. Take care.

Don't understand your link, Brits in Benidorm was widely reported.

EasterIssland · 25/05/2020 23:43

And your opinion is as respectful as mine. Just because I’ve not lived the Spanish lockdown doesn’t mean I can’t say what the government has said : country opened as of 1st of July and no quarantine needed. (That’s what the ministra de asuntos exteriores (foreign affairs minister ) ) has Twitted today. You’re talking about the current situation as of today. But it won’t be like that as of 1st of July (date the op is asking for) because the rules will have changed. There won’t be any estado de alarma by then and neither any fases.

Brits (the country that sends more people to Spain) is welcome :

Al quedar solo cinco semanas hasta inicio de julio, parece que el Gobierno tendrá que redoblar esfuerzos en estas negociaciones e intentar llegar a acuerdos bilaterales, al menos con los principales mercados emisores de turistas —la ministra portavoz, María Jesús Montero, habló el domingo de Francia, Portugal, Alemania y Reino Unido—.

HairyFloppins · 25/05/2020 23:46

Just place marking this thread for when the Brits are back in Benidorm and causing mayhem in July.

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:51

Grin glad you know so much and are in a position to advise Grin from outside the country! It's great.

In my respectful opinion, nobody will be coming here for an enjoyable holiday on the beach in a months time. Nobody.

But what do I know? A facemask rash in 40 degree heat and police crawling all over the beach is going to be such fun. The supermarkets... well, I won't comment.

The bars? Yep, good luck with that.

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:54

That wasn't to @HairyFloppins, I am also place marking!

The 'estate' of my hospital is fine BTW.

HairyFloppins · 25/05/2020 23:59

Grin I have bad guy running through my head now because of your user name.

EasterIssland · 26/05/2020 00:02

Im not advising anyone each person can do what they want . I’m only saying that what the op has said is right the government has announced that by 1st of July the country is opened. If people don’t want to fly then they’ll have a problem because airlines will say well the flight is departing with or without you.

Ps i might be outside Spain but I’m Spanish. All my family is there so any decisions taken by the government affects me. I’ve had to cancel a flight during lockdown to visit my family and I’m awaiting news about next decisions as I’ve another one in summer. Not everyone that goes to Spain goes to mayhem it

tenlittlecygnets · 26/05/2020 00:03

Well, there's totally no point going to the Costa Brava this summer as beaches are always jam packed, so we will give it a miss this year.

tenlittlecygnets · 26/05/2020 00:07

Don't worry,@billieeilish, you can have your country to yourself this summer. Wonder how many tapas bars will be open next summer?!

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 00:08

It's quite clear you are Spanish and have a strong ulterior motive to be able to fly to Spain, I understand that.

But to advise UK users of mumsnet that they can go on a lovely holiday in July in simply not true. That beaches and pools and markets will be open is not true. We are in LOCKDOWN still. Fase 1 or 2 it is still a UK lockdown.

I have said it is a ruse by airlines to avoid cancellation fees.

I hope you get to see your family. I saw my DH for the first time in 3 months last week.

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 00:10

@tenlittlecygnets. This is not my country and never will be.

EasterIssland · 26/05/2020 00:16

Some minister said a few weeks ago no foreigners will be allowed to come to the country before anyone living in Spain is allowed to move around which hints that lockdown will be over by then. If things move forward madrid and Barcelona will hit phase 3 on the 22nd of June I believe and today they’ve said that they might reduce the 2 week gaps between phases.

It won’t be in many cases the Spanish holiday they’ve booked for. That’s why I keep saying that if people want to cancel they’ll find it difficult as airlines will be flying by then and they’ll most likely refuse cancellations or vouchers for other holidays.

Ps aside from this I’m glad you’ve managed to meet with your husband after this long. I’ve always told my Brit friends when they were complaining about how tough it was in the uk the lockdown that it was even worse in my country. Kids not allowed to go out at all and adults just for basic. I know it’s been tough for you all. Take it easy and hope it gets better in coming weeks

CatAndHisKit · 26/05/2020 00:19

BillieEilish this was announced today on BBC One News, several times in a day - so it's really not just Easter's advice. A bit strange to argue with the official news channel quoting Spanish govt. Of course it may not all 'as normal' this year, and the Spanish govt may not want to mention it too much as they want to get at least some income from tourism.

Inkpaperstars · 26/05/2020 00:22

Thanks Easter.

We have a holiday booked in Spain, self catering in a fairly remote setting. I think it is too early to know what we will all be dealing with then, but my main worry is that our party includes several vulnerable/elderly members and even if we can go, I don't know if it is a good idea for them to be on a plane or risking getting ill while away from home.

Inkpaperstars · 26/05/2020 00:23

Sorry, missed out that it is for October

Legoandloldolls · 26/05/2020 00:23

Well I'm booked to go to Majorca on the 11th. I can rebook so no biggie but I still expect it to be cancelled.

Two week quarantine on return with 4 kids and no online delivery slots? How will we even get back from.the airport? Drive with a suitcase each on our lap? Realistically it's not going to happen.

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 00:29

Did it mention the UK? Did it? It didn't.

@EasterIssland is correct, last week, a minister said, why should tourists come from CV rife places when we can't visit our relatives in Galicia?

I'm off to bed. I was trying to help.

I avoid these threads normally but tonight I couldn't resist telling people how it is. I know that is not a popular thing to do but hey, I think people should be aware. Very aware, before they lose shed loads of money.

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 00:33

@Inkpaperstars, I think by October you'll be fine.
Schools will be back, lockdown will be over, all will be the 'new normal' just make sure you have good health insurance.

CatAndHisKit · 26/05/2020 00:36

As it was on UK bbc news, it would have surely mentioned if UK is excluded - they just said any tourists are allowed from JUly 1st . These aer news to the UK viewers so wouldn't wnt to mislead their audience.
I'm not saying people will want to go btw.
I think only those will go who want a quiet self catering holiday in a villa/apt, not the crowds of drinkers and club-goers!
