The DC scandal

What does everyone think? I wonder if his position is now untenable ..

God, I really hope so. If ‘righties’ are still supporting him and championing his disastrous reign as PM then they are idiots. He needs to go before he dies more damage.

Hollyhead · 25/05/2020 10:08

No, he has an 80 seat majority and the general election is 4.5 years away. Must people who are spitting venom wouldn’t vote for him anyway. He is not going anywhere.

The 2024 election will be fought on the economy not coronavirus. The pandemic’s timing couldn’t really be better for the government having just been elected.

JudyCoolibar · 25/05/2020 10:15

He has no honour or dignity. He won't feel he "has" to resign.

What he should resign for, of course, is his utter incompetence throughout the crisis, and the thousands of people who have died unnecessarily because of the bad decisions he has made and is continuing to make. But I think pigs will be flying over us before that happens.

LaureBerthaud · 25/05/2020 10:19

I'd wager the vast majority don't care. We expect our politicians to lie to us and treat us with contempt.

effingterrified · 25/05/2020 10:27

Yes.

Someone v senior in Blair government once told me if the Mail and the Guardian agree, give up immediately

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 10:36

I don't think Starmer will win it for labour either and I've never voted conservative nor a 'militant leftie' !
People will move on in a few years time and still vote for the conservatives. They will get another leader in a few years and this will be airbrushed away.
I only ever' meet ' people on mumsnet who agree with any of my own views on politics which are fairly 'middle of the road. ' I didn't agree with Corbyn but I voted for them. Many members of my family didn't.

In real life most people don't care much either way or are conservatives.
I don't forget this fiasco , but for many it's not even on the radar or they are pleased that lockdown is now over ( a bit at least)

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 10:42

He's still in a strong position because he's just won an 80+ majority (and as of now is still popular in the polls).

The care home scandal and the highest death toll in Europe because he dithered for weeks is a bigger scandal than this Cummings business.

user1493494961 · 25/05/2020 10:47

The Mail editor is reportedly a remainer and hates Boris.

Comingoutontop123 · 25/05/2020 10:52

No. It'll blow over quickly and even MNetters will have something else to be outraged about by next weekend.

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 10:54

The Mail editor is reportedly a remainer and hates Boris.

Yeah, they closed ranks to get the election won but now with a big Tory majority for 4 years they do need to back him. If he becomes a liability the Tories will dump him.

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 10:54

*don't

CofE Bishops have now come out in criticism of Bj defence of dc

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 10:55

I'm sure youre right User and it's true the other Tory press hasn't turned in the same way, but The Mail has enormous influence on the people who will be writing to his MPs, that they voted for today.

LemonyCupcake · 25/05/2020 10:56

I don’t think this will blow over - I think if DC doesn’t go that Bj and dc will go

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 25/05/2020 11:03

No, just like Trump will never give up.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 11:07

Of course it will blow over
It's being put forwards now as a ' leftie communist ' stunt and the daily mail editor is a remainer too. This will all hinge on Brexit which is why I expect my own MP to back Boris! I'm done with it all now especially as it transpires his son has special needs something we didn't know yesterday.
Dragging children into this is never a good idea. It'll be seen as his integrity was to protect his little boy. Many will be sympathetic with this and move on.

effingterrified · 25/05/2020 11:11

Ha ha ha The80s.

This will NOT blow over.

Numerous fuming Tories over this too.

I'm looking forward to the next poll on the public's view of Johnson v Starmer - Starmer was already in the lead before this story broke.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 12:09

The problem with politics is becomes 'tit for tat. ' Twitter is now full of past shady dealings and old stories from way back. New Labour also had advisors and spin doctors who behaved like back street spivs most of the time.
Nobody in politics is perfect and all parties and governments have dirt on them that is continually dug up.
I'm old and jaded by all the political parties.
I don't vote conservative because I do not like their policies , but when people criticise labour I can understand why as well.
It's this kind of seeing the other point of view that is sadly lacking at times especially on mumsnet ( sometimes)
I'm so annoyed about this latest fiasco but I'm also wise enough to know it won't get most people anywhere as well.
The real things to get upset about are being airbrushed and that's sad. Care homes being one.

Lumene · 25/05/2020 12:46

Sadly not.

Qasd · 25/05/2020 12:48

Given even cumming isn’t going I cannot see boris leaving to be honest no

vera99 · 25/05/2020 12:49

At some point in the not too distant future, he will be forced out by his own party. This is the beginning of forging the nails for that eventual coffin and once he's buried I'll be along to 'water' that particular grave.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2020 12:57

Dominic Cummings is going to do a press conference.

feelingverylazytoday · 25/05/2020 13:40

No of course not.
I'd be very surprised if the vast majority give a single fuck. Most people just want to get on with their own lives as best as they can.

SpencerReidsMistress · 25/05/2020 13:42

People are outraged. Understandable considering the wife's sister lives in London. I don't think Boris will resign, especially considering Dominic Cummings isn't resigning either.

Smileyoriley · 25/05/2020 15:11

No. Unfortunately.
