What does everyone think? I wonder if his position is now untenable ..

I don't think he'll resign butnindo think it's possible the party will push him out over it.

This afternoon's "statement" seems a very odd move. Boris has already spoken, is DC saying he wasn't even up to that job and now he needs to do it himself?

He may be forced out by the Tories. Hopefully.

I have a horribly fear that his statement (which he shouldn't even be allowed to make as an advisor. He isn't supposed to be the story), will be him rolling out sob stories and using his child as a human shield.

I don't think most people who has suffered untold hardships with twice the problems of a wealthy man with a powerful wife by his side, will be swayed by 'waaa waaa waaa, my child has special needs..'

There were rumours that the words 'the child is the trump card' have been heard in Cummings' circles. Even if that's fabrication, I think it's likely to be what he pulls out of the hat to excuse himself.

It makes it worse as far as I'm concerned.

I've also heard someone say that Johnson sacking Cummings would be 'like Emu sacking off Rod Hull and trying to go solo' which is why that would never happen.

^^ My thoughts exactly! It's like he's saying that Boris is incapable of relating the facts so he'd better do it himself.

Surely a written statement would have been more appropriate? If he's staying it should confirm where he was when and reiterate his belief that he did not break any rules. If he's going it should say the same but end with him resigning so as not to distract from more important issues.

I'm not naive enough to expect either statement to contain a modicum of humility or contrition - let alone an apology!

I don't like Boris and didn't vote for him but i don't think this is a reason for any prime minister to resign.

got an 80 seat majority in December. So No, I never expected resignations.... from this. But the public patience has just worn very thin, they are in a dangerous position if any more big screw ups come to light.
