Do these shenanigans make you less likely to download the NHS app?

I already had my reservations about installing an app produced by Dom’s former Vote Leave mates, but this disgraceful behaviour seems to have cemented that. Low installation rates of the app is certainly way to revolt against this shit show.

Alternatively, when the phone operator rings up to say that one of your work colleagues has tested positive, you need to go into unpaid isolation, I think we’ll tell them to fuck off. Or just go to Durham.

Thecazelets · 25/05/2020 10:43

Nope.

Thecazelets · 25/05/2020 10:44

As in, I won't be downloading it! Having been very compliant throughout I really have lost all trust in this govt to do the right thing,

effingterrified · 25/05/2020 10:45

Plus Dominic Cummings' sister is the director of the company running the new CV-19 Track & Trace App.

Download the app? You couldn't possibly pay me enough.

Thecruxxofitis · 25/05/2020 10:46

I’m not going to download it and was never going to. But I don’t see why you’d be put off just because of what Cummings has done

Wronglettertotimothy · 25/05/2020 10:46

Yup. Cummings mates in charge of my data? Excuses for not following the rules made up and questioning brushed away.

I think I’ll just stay indoors thanks.

missbipolar · 25/05/2020 10:46

Please don't tell the phone operator to fuck off, most of us are just trying to do what we can to still provide for our families

missbipolar · 25/05/2020 10:49

And the people calling you wont be using the app data only data from people that have tested positive

conveniencestore · 25/05/2020 10:51

Why is the UK building an app from scratch when several fully-functioning apps already exist and are already being used in countries that have handled coronavirus much better than us with fewer fatalities? I think the whole building from scratch is causing months of delays and we don't even know if it will work properly in all areas and on all phones. The extra money and time seems completely unnecessary. Why does this government - who did not close the borders when other countries did, who did not build up stocks of PPE when other countries did, so did not cancel large public events when other countries did, who did not introduce lockdown when other countries did - why is it not using the app that these other much better performing countries are using? Why is it building its own app from scratch?

Wingedharpy · 25/05/2020 10:58

Jobs (and money) for the boys @conveniencestore, that's why.

Lumene · 25/05/2020 10:59

I would need to have assurances about how my data would be used.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/05/2020 11:01

yes it does. the rest of the world have been testing and tracking from early on- giving the contract to cummings leave campaign mates (who illegally mined data/were fraudulent) makes me very wary. the fact that boris couldnt/wouldnt sack cummings makes it clear that he is more than just any old advisor.

Helmetbymidnight · 25/05/2020 11:03

or what convenience store said.

initially the govt said schools wouldnt open til tracking was up and running. its a debacle and a sham.

MarginalGain · 25/05/2020 11:04

I was never considering it in the first place, mostly because I have a healthy sense of paranoia about well-intentioned government programmes under the best of circumstances.

To my mind, this whole episode reveals absolutely nothing except that Johnson and Cummings are far less politically astute that I had previously assumed. I knew that neither of them 'believed' in the lockdown, it's all theatre, but they got caught and they couldn't work out how bad it looked.

SquishySquirmy · 25/05/2020 11:05

The way I feel right now if Johnson told me fire was hot I'd probably have to check for myself!

MarginalGain · 25/05/2020 11:06

I heard on the news this morning that one reported had scoured the Johnson archives and could find evidence that he'd fired only one person during his entire time as Mayor, MP, Cabinet & PM.

Now he needs to fire the person who he relies upon to do the firing, so he's caught in a catch-22.

BirdieFriendReturns · 25/05/2020 11:11

Never going to download it anyway!

ThousandsAreSailing · 25/05/2020 11:13

I wasn't going to download it anyway. I'm sick of cronyism and the Tories lining their, and their mates, own pockets
I think we would be horrified at the corruption. Once it was decided that we wouldn't go with the same app as the rest of Europe and go with DC mate I decided not to download it
The company has a terrible track record and has already accidentally shared publicly the email addresses of its trackers

Oxyiz · 25/05/2020 11:20

Any jobs given to their mates automatically means it will be badly done IMO after watching similar things happen time and time before.

Srictlybakeoff · 25/05/2020 11:31

Given that Dominic Cummings sister is a director of the company producing the app there is no way I would down load it.

EsmeShelby · 25/05/2020 11:55

No, I won't download it.

conveniencestore · 25/05/2020 11:57

"Dominic Cummings' sister is the director of the company running the new CV-19 Track & Trace App" @effingterrified
Guess this is why the government is building its own app when several already exist that are known to work and being used by countries that have contained the coronavirus much better than us. We have the highest death toll per head of population in the world so almost anything that we do differently to other countries in handling this pandemic is wrong since the lack of PPE purchasing, lack of timely lockdown, refusal to stop travel to and from affected areas of Europe, incorrect infection mapping (for a flu outbreak not a SARs outbreak - even though the virus is called SARS-COVID -2), lack of adequate preparation and planning in January and February and first half of March were also all wrong). If we had used existing apps that are known to work and being used in other countries then the criteria of having a working app by the time schools reopened would be met. Now they are breaking their own criteria by opening schools before we all have a functional app on our phones.
What I find especially worrying is how little these issues are highlighted on TV news - the main source of information for most people.

Irnbroothenoo · 25/05/2020 13:06

If you don’t download it then you can’t moan when this continues for months on end.

BirdieFriendReturns · 25/05/2020 13:09

Irnbroothenoo - even if we did all download it, lockdown would still continue.

Wingedharpy · 25/05/2020 13:28

A quick read of the NHS Clinical Contact Caseworker thread on this site gives some insight into how well the track and trace set up is going 😉

rosiethehen · 25/05/2020 13:35

They'll be selling any data collected. Even if it is anonymised, they'll be profiting from the population. I'm not downloading it. I don't come in to contact with other people anyway as I'm practically a hermit.
