Thread for people thinking about, doing, or awaiting results of COVID-19 antibody tests.

I think I had COVID as I had pneumonia in March. Negative antibodies I really don’t think it’s worth paying for a test
Everyone I work with was also negative. GP’s and nurses

Jrobhatch29 · 12/07/2020 11:14

Yeah everything I read is that they are so unreliable

Menora · 12/07/2020 11:19

I think it’s more likely that you just don’t hold onto the antibodies. If we got tested in May we might have known differently but it’s July now

Whatapickle78 · 12/07/2020 21:36

Worth a read if you're considering AB testing!

I had one done but not the home one but through nhs and it was positive. I had it back at the end of March i think. My husband got rrally unwell. Fever, cough, aches and pain then loss of sense of smell amd taste for weeks. No testing then. I got ill 10 days after his first symptoms. Severe headache, fever, bit of cough. Fatigue. Generally felt spaced out. Runny nose for 1 day! Had antibody test through work last week. Thought as i didnt have it as bad and 4 months ago wouldnt be positive but it was positive.

I read somewhere that it can depend on age and race, with over 40s and BAME (also men?) producing more of an antibody response.

I just tested negative for antibodies last week, had symptoms back in end of Feb after skiing at half term in the alps..DH really quite poorly and was pretty sure we had it then. Quite a while ago now though I suppose- over 4 months.

"UK coronavirus antibody test validated – but results show under-40s may not be immune
Younger people who had tested positive for virus came back negative, suggesting test may not be useful for wider population"

Tests aimed at determining whether Britons have recovered from coronavirus may not be useful because younger people do not produce sufficient quantities of antibodies to the virus, early research suggests.

Following my earlier comment. My husband had the antibody test and was positive too. First symptoms back in March and was very unwell. He is tanned skin and 30.

Stars1979 · 20/07/2020 07:23

Hi

I’m a bit late to this party but I was really ill for 3 weeks from March 22nd. I didn’t have a cough so 111 wouldn’t test me for Covid. Started off with body aches then temperature raised on day 3 and didn’t go below 38 for 12 days. Also had headaches and gastric symptoms. I’d been considering getting an antibody test but didn’t want a finger prick version. This week a local phlebotomist offered venous blood tests so I had one on Tuesday and have just received a positive result via email.

OceanPacific · 07/08/2020 20:46

@Jellifer sounds like exactly the same that I had.
