After a campaign of fear when they wanted us to stay in, they now want us back o work and school so sad I predicted, the good news stories and it’s safe stories are becoming prevalent. I was told ‘they don’t print good news stories’. There are many ways to brainwash convince the public get to do what you want

I’ve always wondered about a couple of very pro SNP supporters.
Whenever I see their usernames, I always think , oh, the signal’s gone out. Fran and Anna are here again.

Andante57 · 24/05/2020 21:45

On board as influential as Mumsnet?

Tosca who does mumsnet influence and in what way?

DPotter · 24/05/2020 21:45

Paid posters - really? where do I apply? I'll post against OPs -£50 a post!

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 21:46

Does it pay well by the way? Asking for a friend...

Andante57 · 24/05/2020 21:46

Tossa not Tosca

ZombieFan · 24/05/2020 21:46

You are ONLY allowed to have a different opinion from the Lefty MN mob if you are either paid or a bot.

EmbarrassedUser · 24/05/2020 21:48

A paid poster, bollocks!! I think they’re called trolls. This is a site for discussion and people can put what they want so even if their opinion is different to yours you can’t just assume that they are suspicious every single time.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 24/05/2020 21:49

I’m amazed so many think there’s no “influencers” on here

It probably does happen sometimes, that people are paid to push their opinions I'm not daft enough to think that it could never happen.
What I'm laughing at is the fact that if you ever hold a different opinion on one of these types of tin hat threads - be it Brexit, Coronavirus or trans threads, you're immediately treated with suspicion and accused of being a Russian bot Grin
(that was my personal favourite lol)
Paranoia and fear panic threads go utterly, utterly batshit sometimes.

TossaCointoYerWitcher · 24/05/2020 21:53

Tosca who does mumsnet influence and in what way?

Its a huge, high-traffic board filled with hundreds of posters - what's not to love?

The organisation I work for would give its right arm for Mumsnet to throw a recommendation about something we do for free.

Have I personally been paid to pretend to be a "member of the public" on a forum in order to influence people and/or promote a product? Not strictly.

Have I personally known people who have? Yes.

It's not even that shadowy, really. Its pretty much standard "black hat" marketing tactics in the digital age.

SuckingDieselFella · 24/05/2020 21:54

I'm sure people are paid to push products. I have my suspicions this happens on the Style and Beauty forum.

But not politics. There's no need to pay fanatics on social media - it was made for them. Grin

TossaCointoYerWitcher · 24/05/2020 21:56

I have to put on record, that actually, this is true. Paid posters/bots do exist but 8 times out of 10 its more likely its just someone with a different opinion.

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2020 21:57

Bluntness100 so thats why you're always hanging around!

I’m guessing my cheques in the post,,,🤣

In all seriousness I do think there are some product placements on here, from pr agencies in style and beauty, someone employed by an agency and says oh this product is fab, pretending to be just a poster who is astounded by how good the product is, to get people to buy it.

I don’t really think there are paid posters in terms of politics, I’m on here a lot and I see all the arguments. I do think there are some posters who are members of political parties and try to push an ideology. I don’t think they are paid. If they are they should be sacked. As they are quite shite at it. But they do it because they are simply really political and think spreading their message on social media is the way to go.

SuckingDieselFella · 24/05/2020 21:57

Good of you to give us the benefit of your expert wisdom @TossaCointoYerWitcher

Where do you stand on the R number and the efficacy of the Oxford vaccine?

TossaCointoYerWitcher · 24/05/2020 21:58

But not politics. There's no need to pay fanatics on social media - it was made for them.

Every little bit helps... Wink

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 24/05/2020 21:58

Exactly, but the more you insist you're genuine, what are they on about, the more the get convinced OMG you must be a bot or a troll lol, it's so weird Grin

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2020 21:59

Sucking diesel, I didn’t read your post before I posted but I agree totally. I think there are some pr agencies who use the site for product placement, but I don’t really think it happens in politics on here.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/05/2020 21:59

I'm pretty sure I did nail a bot on MN once:

I was debating with a poster on a couple of Westministenders threads who claimed to be in fintech in London

All perfectly normal "educated" English, then they got a bit heated and did a long angry post that was barely understandable,
but clearly written by someone who barely spoke English

  • they forgot to put it through Google translate or whatever software they were using

I asked them about this sudden change, but no reply - and they never posted again
(or at least had a new user name and a new background story)

Kljnmw3459 · 24/05/2020 22:02

Daily mail is turning against bj and dc now? Whatever next?

SuckingDieselFella · 24/05/2020 22:07

@TossaCointoYerWitcher if you work in marketing how come you don't know the slogan is Every Little Helps?

Why all the insinuations? Why are you trying to accuse myself and another poster of being bots? Why are you trying to make out you're much more knowledgeable than you really are?

BigChocFrenzy · 24/05/2020 22:07

The Fail is mostly a vehicle for ad clicks

Cummings Goings is a great story for stirring up indignation - and ad clicks:
the rulers pissing on the plebs again and telling them it's raining

Especially when we plebs are feeling more pissed on anyway than usual

It's a gift for those who want lockdown to end

That will be everybody then.

SuckingDieselFella · 24/05/2020 22:12

I must try that Hairy Bikers anti corona diet.

Bet it has pies and real ale in it.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 24/05/2020 22:21

There have been protests throughout Europe to end lockdowns, they are particularly strong in Germany. And one German state has vowed to end lockdown against Merkels guidelines. It is just something some people feel very strongly about so there is no need to pay posters.

People have different opinions and just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean that they are paid to post. I think the problem with MN is it became a Momentum echo chamber before the last election and people aren't used to posters expressing different opinions.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/05/2020 22:47

I live in Germany
Most people are happy to relax lockdown in stages; some are nervous it's too fast^
So a mix of opinion as in the UK

The anti-lockdown protests were a bunch of anti-Vaxxers, AfD Nazis, foorball hooligans and conspiracy nuts
Like all Rent-a-mobs they have only minority support

Merkel and her CDU party have risen sharply in popularity over their handling of this crisis
and the AfD have fallen in support

Under the German constitution, the 16 German states have considerable freedom to choose domestic policy,

Thuringia has said it will lockdown locally if there are 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 7 days

  • which is a stricter^ threshold than th^e 50 /100,000 that Merkel agreed with the 16 states as the national standard.
