DS statement on Cummings is shameful

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 10:44

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

Can I also be a childish voice of dissent and say I think Sunak is fugly?

Ta.

Trumpspeach · 23/05/2020 13:32

*Number 10 statement claims Cummings and family were not spoken to by police.

Durham police say they did.

I suspect the police are telling the truth here.*

Yes. Another example of blatant lying.

Like everyone else, I am livid about this and the other lives he potentially put at risk. What about if he'd had an accident in the car? Or had broken down? Or stopped at a service station? And the breath-taking arrogance - he would have known that this would come out and has assumed that he would wriggle out of it. Sadly, I suspect that he will do.

Me too, in fact I'm sure of that.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 13:34

I think the ultimate question right now is what Cummings has on them all?

BJ defends his unelected friend at all costs.

Then manages to persuade other ministers to do the same. And ministers who up to now have had good reputation (Rishi) and been in and out of favour but generally been shoved out to front a lot (Matt).

Both of those must have really had to keep something covered to commit the absolute career suicide they've committed this morning.

I bet somewhere right now Keir Starmer is forensically studying the timeline etc. They didn't really think their lawyer opposition wouldn't get the absolute truth out there did they?

A fucking novel pandemic virus and the government are acting like rugby team twats.

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 13:34

Many people had circumstances like this.

Exactly. So many people have struggled with illness and young children. Many of these will have had family members, or parents under 70 who would have been willing to step in and help. Except they couldn't, as the rules were clear.

Durham Plod say they spoke to the property owner, i.e. Pa Cummings.

10DS will argue that your dad is not part of your (nuclear) family, but just some random bloke who once shagged your mum.

Johnson can't function without Cummings. It's Cummings running the country.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 23/05/2020 13:38

It's Cummings running the country.

Autocorrect. Shoud read ruining.

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 13:39

Is it just that Johnson can't function without Cummings?
We can see that Trump's acolytes defend him because trump has everyone compromised, is it the same with Cummings?

Anniegetyourgun · 23/05/2020 13:39

... a fictional character.

Bugger, the above was supposed to refer to:

Just an aside, anyone else notice the uncanny resemblance of Cumming to Andy Serkis's Golom? One is balding, unscrupulous little goblin, the other one is..?

1forsorrow · 23/05/2020 13:40

Disappointing from Sunak. I think a silence from him would have said a thousand words.

Sajid Javid wasn't willing to sell his soul to the devil, Sunak was. I don't get all the love for him.

iften · 23/05/2020 13:40

I'm appalled by this government.

I thought they were incompetent but doing their best, now I think they're a bunch of lying, self serving, piss takers.

eleventy3isthemagicnumber · 23/05/2020 13:41

Apologies, you are right of course Sad

skodadoda · 23/05/2020 13:42

CloudPop, it matters because the police have said that they did speaking to the family, so no.10 are lying.

VickyEadieofThigh · 23/05/2020 13:42

What about if he'd had an accident in the car? Or had broken down? Or stopped at a service station?

Yes to the accident/breaking down issue - would have put responders at great risk.

And does anyone believe they never stopped at services en route?

kirinm · 23/05/2020 13:43

This has really pissed me off. There was a 13 year old boy who died alone and was buried alone because his family had to self isolate due to symptoms. But this prick can drive 250 miles - according to one "source" when both he and his wife had covid-19 symptoms or according to the more up to date statement, when only his wife was showing symptoms and he became aware that he might catch it.

The utter shamelessness of those in the cabinet now coming out to claim this is some attempt at making a politic point. This is so utterly disgusting, I can't contain my anger.

I hope he fucking goes and I hope the rest of the idiots defending him realise that any scrap of credibility they have - has gone. The chancellor has messed up. He was looking good (for some) as potential PM but following orders makes him look like an idiot.

Anniegetyourgun · 23/05/2020 13:43

Btw on a side issue, can I be the only one who's noticed how very much Rishi Sunak sounds like Tony Blair in the latter's hayday? I'd swear they must have employed the same voice coach. He even said "I tell you this..." one time exactly as Tone used to do (usually when he was about to say something not entirely 100% accurate). It's almost disturbing. I didn't like to mention it before because if he became a viable alternative to Boris I wouldn't want to queer his pitch. But by the sound of it, that ship has sailed.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 23/05/2020 13:43

Rugby team twats

In fact not. Eton is a Soccer School, hence Wills and Cameron and their bizzare Weston Villham United affectation.

Quillink · 23/05/2020 13:44

If they had broken down, the recovery mechanic would have been put at risk.

If they'd had an accident they would have put the police and medics at risk. Nobody can drive safely with feverish Covid symptoms.

I'm very disappointed to hear other Tories defending him. How do they expect people to take their rules seriously?

Johnson lies and blusters but is apparently sufficiently appealing to enough people that he gets away with it. Democratically elected too, more's the pity. Cummings is unelected and disliked. There is no excuse for keeping him on.

I do agree with PP that this might be a distraction from schools. He'll resign and then be quietly re-employed.

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 13:44

And does anyone believe they never stopped at services en route?

Absolutely no chance they drove all that way with a young child in the car, and a wife who was apparently vomiting.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 13:45

Riski Sunak's dad was a GP
his mum was a pharmacist

he REALLY should have chosen to stay quiet

doubt we'll see him visiting his parents - their road is full of twitchy curtains

Tavannach · 23/05/2020 13:48
