DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

And to think the Leave campaigns spent their time calling Remainers "the elite".

This the actual elite in action.

DelphiniumBlue · 23/05/2020 13:49

PerkingFaintly makes an excellent point about us all forgetting just how Rishi got the job.
I had forgotten, so thanks for that.
This government has no credibility at all now, we are a global laughing stock.
It's embarrassing.

Honkingallthewaytothebank · 23/05/2020 13:50

What a shitshow.

I warmly encourage all service station staff with access to cctv to get crawling through the footage to see how many people Cominic and his wife breathed on.

Because I don't for one second believe they managed London to Durham in one unbroken drive, sick and with a 4yo in their car seat.

ginandbearit · 23/05/2020 13:50

Everything about Cummings..his choice of clothing in government meetings ,his approach to the civil service, his demeanor and now his dismissal of press questioning strongly shows a personality for whom the rules dont apply ( in his mind ). I suspect his greatest contempt is saved for Boris .

theduchessstill · 23/05/2020 13:52

One good thing about this is it has shown Rishi Sunak for who he really is. Despite his inexperience, his relentless 'get Brexit done' media appearances in the election campaign, the fact that he got put in his position to be a yes man and to have his advisers chosen for him by none other than DC, far too many people have been fooled into thinking he's some kind of centre right messiah who's going to swoop in and be the next leader and rejuvenate the Tories, just because he's had to introduce the half-decent furlough scheme, though the hard part Paying for it) hasn't even begun yet.

I'm glad he's taken this opportunity to show us who he really is and I do hope this 'dishy Rishi' nonsense will stop now.

DelphiniumBlue · 23/05/2020 13:52

PerkingFaintly yet another spot on post..
"This is the actual elite in action."
They are shaming us in front of the whole world.

SheWranglesRugRats · 23/05/2020 13:53

I heard it was a haemorrhoid operation

Frankly, they should have kept the haemorrhoid and incinerated the rest of him.

Can we get him for breaking the law on fitness to drive?

downtheplug · 23/05/2020 13:55

@SheWranglesRugRats Grin

HathorX · 23/05/2020 13:56

It's unbelievable, the lack of integrity in the heart of government. The rule is very clear, if you suspect you have the virus you don't leave your home for ANY reason. But then to compound it by concealing it, and then trying to DEFEND it ... it is utterly offensive and insulting to all of us who have tried to abide by the rules at real cost - emotional, physical and financial.

I am so disgusted and so angry. Gove actually tweeted, "... anyone would have done the same"... but the point is we didnt, we followed the rules.

Cummings and the lot of them have to go. Can't trust a word they say. They have played us all for fools

Boris thinks he is the heir of Churchill? Churchill would have has complete contempt for him.⁷

Smileyoriley · 23/05/2020 13:57

Disgusting PoS thinks he can get away with what he likes and the "herd" will put up and shut up. Well maybe the forlock-tuggers will now at last begin to see how they have been stitched up!

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 13:58

Crawling through the footage
Yes bring it
let's have a montage on YouTube
We can all clap along

Sophiafour · 23/05/2020 13:59

I honestly don't know what it will take for Tory apologists to get the message. Over 85% of Tories DON"T CARE about anyone beyond a tiny fraction of the 1% - white, middle and upper middle class, over-educated males, primarily in the south and those ludicrous enclaves in the north who handed the election to them on a platter in December. In Tory eyes, the deluded north has served its purpose and is now utterly expendable. What part of "They think you and your kids are cannon fodder while they're dead special" isn't clear???

Redolent · 23/05/2020 14:01

“Robert Halfon MP -Working Hard for Harlow-

Ill couple drive 260+ miles to ensure that their small child can be looked after properly. In some quarters this is regarded as crime of the century. Is this really the kind of country we are?”

This same can be said for all the many cruel, painful moments of social distancing we now have to abide with. Parents dying alone, families torn apart, children isolated from others, all in the name of compliance. What an absolute fucking half-wit.

time4anothername · 23/05/2020 14:02

it's the wife's Spectator story that fascinates me. Reminds me of poeple who lie and then genuinely come to believe their own lies? So by the time the story is written and out there they come to believe that is really what they did and suppress in their own minds even their self-entitled actions?

I also wonder at enabling parents who presumably are in a much riskier category but sacrifice themselves. ....

such dangerous dynamics to have running a country

FloggingMoll · 23/05/2020 14:02

My DP said the other night that the only thing that'll make people turn against government now is if our children start to die. Cold, but I think he's right. At what point do we stand up and say we've had enough? When do we stop blaming a government we had over a decade ago for the shit show we're in? We couldn't have foreseen pandemic, bollocks. We've been waiting for it for years! We've handed the keys to the kingdom over to a fucking flim flam artist. Angry

theThreeofWeevils · 23/05/2020 14:03

10DS will argue that your dad is not part of your (nuclear) family, but just some random bloke who once shagged your mum
As at least one of Johnson's indeterminate number of sprogs would agree.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/05/2020 14:04

It's not about what you guys think
He's reading from the trump script isn't he, calling the media fake news

It’s kind of worse than Trump. Trump says it’s all fake and untrue. Cummings is much more blatant, saying, yeah I know you know, but I, and the government, don’t give a flying fuck about what you, or the public, think.

Oblomov20 · 23/05/2020 14:05

Yes Cummings is a ......

But I am shocked MN posters reactions. Have you never been so ill that you couldn't look after your children? What happens if they are very young? Support agencies wouldn't cover it, would they? Someone dropping a bag of shopping on your front door isn't enough is it?
Not everyone has a back up, grandparents close by etc?

UntamedWisteria · 23/05/2020 14:06

I suspect his greatest contempt is saved for Boris .

^ This.

If you're reading, Carrie (and surely you are) be a love and let him know gently ...

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2020 14:07

If I was too ill to look after my kids I would be too ill to drive anywhere (let alone 4 hours on a motorway).

Mrs C's brother lives in London.

They broke the effing rules.

UntamedWisteria · 23/05/2020 14:07

redolent MPs are all tweeting forms he same script. My local MP said similar, as have several prominent cabinet ministers.

Script probably written by Dom himself.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 14:08

It's just gaslighting.

'He was looking after his tiny child you cold hearted bastards!'

Versus

Stay in and don't go near the NHS and btw all your loved ones will die alone if they do get ill

OP posts:
iVampire · 23/05/2020 14:09

If you are so ill you cannot care for your DC, the last thing you should be doing is setting off on a 250 mile car journey. Utterly irresponsible to drive in that state

A parent should have gone to them

Because the rules allow for you to visit someone’s house to provide care (though because of exposure/isolation rules they would have to be ready to stay for at least a fortnight)

But it’s not OK for you to leave when you have it or are isolating. As every Govt publication was saying at the time

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 14:09

Oblomov20
Yes, I've been too ill to look after my children
but NEVER would I - while ill - drive for four hours to the other end of the country
I'd find help locally
or ask family to come to me.
If he and his wife were too ill to care for their child
they were too ill to drive safely
COVID or no COVID

Michelleoftheresistance · 23/05/2020 14:10

I thought they were incompetent but doing their best, now I think they're a bunch of lying, self serving, piss takers.

Me too.

'Pull on the heart strings of the electorate' by waving the phrase 'young child' about a lot?

Fgs they are so clueless it's terrifying. You cannot pull this crap on a populace who have been managing their own young children without child care or help while they were sick/ their businesses went down/ family members died alone in care homes and hospitals, and expect them to go ah bless at you. It adds insult to fucking injury.
