DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

This breaks my heart. I spent my last few shifts as a nurse caring for dying patient's whose family can't be with them due to hospital visiting restrictions. I am trying to relay messages and give life changing information to my patient's and their relatives. I am listening to their stories of their time together and it kills me to know these people are obeying the rules.

Despicable man, no morals or thought for anyone but himself. Ghastly tories.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/05/2020 22:24

DC wasn't following them, either. But his failure to follow them is more significant than mine, as his job involved telling other people what to do

Its not just that pissedoff (Although thats a massive factor) its the refusing to admit that he has done anything’wrong’

Im not judging anyone for breaking any rules, most people are honest about it and say yep i know it wasn’t right but i did AB or C

Not ‘nothing to see here.....everyone in the country completely misunderstood the rules we made up‘

detachablehoof · 23/05/2020 22:26

Pfffttt who on earth trusts the mail?!

MaxNormal · 23/05/2020 22:29

ListeningQuietly done. My MP is SNP so she'll have no love for him either but at least I've voiced my opinion.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 22:30

To be fair I have a begrudging respect for the Stephen Lawrence 'Murderers' headline at a time no other paper was likely to. I know the bad story, I still think it was a high point for them.
No I don't read them. I read the guardian and i, mainly online and also any links to any papers that look interesting

Not like his visiting a lover!
Total contempt for the public who have sacrificed so much .

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 22:32

@itsgettingweird

All MPs can be contacted via here
members.parliament.uk/members/Commons
and if they do not reply you can report them to the speaker Wink

vera99 · 23/05/2020 22:32

Looks like the virus has done for a government riddled with pre-existing conditions...

janet1267 · 23/05/2020 22:34

I've had a reply from my email to my MP already - within half an hour of emailing him. I didn't actually expect a response. He said he didn't disagree with me and has expressed his displeasure to his party. And that he misses his grandchildren who he hasn't seen in 9 weeks.

I am hoping that decency may win after all. I urge you to email your MPs.

FliesandPies · 23/05/2020 22:36

Cummings Lockdown tour t-shirt Grin

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/05/2020 22:37

I tend to listen to tory papers if they are having a pop at the tory party

If they’ve pissed the mail off it’ll be quite entertaining

(Listen...not believe just in case anyone is confused about my wording)

kissmewherethesundontshine · 23/05/2020 22:37

I've contacted mine I hope he has a similar view that it wasn't right

vera99 · 23/05/2020 22:37

@janet1267 I'm lazy and it's late can you put up a Pro-forma that I can crib from. You have inspired me to be a little bit less lazy.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 22:37

Maybe the mixed messages and confusing rules was a big ruse to make sure that some people just did their own thing anyway?
Make it vague then they won't get too upset when I break them ( evil laugh)

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 22:39

Janet
Glad yours replied so quickly.

I admit I emailed an MP on behalf of a client and got an immediate response that I KNOW was sent from his phone in the house during a boring debate (that I was watching)

people MASSIVELY under estimate how much direct contact with MPs is worth

spread the word

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 22:40

Love the tour t shirt.
The non lockdown tour t!

vera99 · 23/05/2020 22:42

Copy MP email into the PM as well - you will get a reply. I used to do ministerial correspondence in another life.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 22:43

vera99
an idea
dear &&& MP
I do not want myself or my family to die from COVID
I do not want to overwhelm the NHS
but the hypocricy shown by Dominic Cummings makes me question what the point of it is
I would love to hug my family - what should I do

or random words in that direction

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 22:44

If you start a new thread link it here please? Am enjoying dipping in and out and catching up on the whole shambles

My MP is very good at correspondence, always replies and is a not bad MP overall. I just emailed him. His only fault is that I'm always added to the doorstep letters/papers for a while after I write!

janet1267 · 23/05/2020 22:46

Vera99 I'm not really sure I can give you a template, sorry. I just wrote a few lines about how COVID has affected me and how let down I feel by this. I talked about integrity and decency. I also made it clear that if the Prime Minister doesn't act on this that he will lose my vote.

I must admit I was surprised by his response. I think he is genuinely a decent man who will feel let down by this. I expected him to toe the party line.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/05/2020 22:47

The strange thing is that his mother's birthday party hasn't been mentioned on the BBC news at all unless I missed that

Interesting that the trip to Barnard Castle coincided with his wife’s birthday?

KenDodd · 23/05/2020 22:47

DC and his lot know the press and public can rant as much as we like but there is fa anyone can do.
This man has already been held in contempt of parliament.
Called voters thick (well Leave voters)
Admitted that Leave would not have won the Brexit vote without him lying about Turkey and the NHS.
He also knows the Tory voter and press are faithful.

Imo the government presiding over 55,000+ deaths because of their incompetence and inaction is a much bigger deal that all of this.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 22:52

Listening sent! I've asked for a reply to inform me if I should be following the guidelines or not? Quoted section 6. Also asked her if she really has best interest of constituents at heart (following guidelines to save lives) or is actually more interested in her reputation at Westminster - hence her defending him.

Should be an interesting reply!

Mrsmadevans · 23/05/2020 22:58

Twitter is going mental over this. It isn't going away .
