DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

I’d say you just torpedoed your own credibility but let’s face it nothing could hit a target that small.

WrongKindOfFace · 23/05/2020 13:19

So is the Government advice now that if you need childcare because you're ill it's okay to travel hundreds of miles to get it?

Seems that way. I’m sure that they’ll have no issue with me and dc popping to see my mum because my hay fever is REALLY bothering me today.

janeyloves · 23/05/2020 13:19

One rule for them and much stricter rules for all of us. Tbf he's always been a self-serving little twat.

Notmyrealname855 · 23/05/2020 13:20

"Who cares about good looks. It's a question of doing the right thing. It's not about what you guys think."

So whose opinion is important you weasel? Because it seems the public’s opinion means nothing, and our efforts nothing? I do believe the gov was following heard immunity under the guise of wishy washy policies.

Love that Cummings thinks it’s about “doing the right thing”. He could win Olympic gold for his mental gymnastics Angry

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 13:20

The guidance is 2m where possible.

The guidance about traveling to your parents who are over 70, when you and your partner are positive for CV was a lot clearer.

Must be nice to pick and choose which rules to follow. Hmm

seriousandloyal · 23/05/2020 13:21

Who is on the daily briefing today? I hope they are questioned at length about this. I am more appalled by all the ministers defending what he did. Just blatant lies, they really think we are stupid.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 13:22

Yes it may have been right to find childcare. It was perfectly acceptable to have someone come to your residence to provide care if necessary.
It wasn't acceptable or within the rules to travel 250 miles whilst apparently so ill you'd think you need childcare (ie - not that ill!).
His niece could have travelled to them. And that makes more sense. She came. Stayed in infected household for minimum of 14 days.

Piglet208 · 23/05/2020 13:22

What really makes me angry is the complete disregard for the morality of his actions. To drive 250 miles with suspected COVID is irresponsible. He took the virus to a different area. This is literally the opposite to containing the spread of the virus.

Mammyloveswine · 23/05/2020 13:22

Absolutely shocking... also a 4 year old is not a toddler..

The sheer hypocrisy of this Tory govt astounds me!

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 13:23

AIBU

I dont feel very well and I think dh may have Corona he's thrown up and looks really rough.
Just worried about who will get the kids their cornflakes if I'm sick too - should I drive to my mums? She's only 250 miles up North?

It's not about what you guys think
He's reading from the trump script isn't he, calling the media fake news

LemonyCupcake · 23/05/2020 13:25

Absolute joke

No way am I doing this stupid lockdown a second longer

So so angry

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 23/05/2020 13:25

This is the political equivalent of lifting up a garden paving slab to observe all the creepy-crawlies that normally live in the dark.

dogsdinnerlady · 23/05/2020 13:25

Just an aside, anyone else notice the uncanny resemblance of Cumming to Andy Serkis's Golom? One is balding, unscrupulous little goblin, the other one is..?

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 13:26

Go for it Noeuf. And as the government only request you stay at home with symptoms, say you can travel anywhere outside as long as you try and remain 2m apart and the virus is less virtulent outside - why don't you stop at a popular beauty spot on the way to get some good fresh air. Which is great for fever and respiratory symptoms.

LemonyCupcake · 23/05/2020 13:26

Surely this is the end for the Tories

How can Boris defend him and stay as pm??

VickyEadieofThigh · 23/05/2020 13:26

Number 10 statement claims Cummings and family were not spoken to by police.

Durham police say they did.

I suspect the police are telling the truth here.

Redolent · 23/05/2020 13:27

Rishi can fuck off as well.

gnushoes · 23/05/2020 13:27

Hypocritical. Unelected. Flagrant rule breaking. So much worse than Ferguson or the Scottish health advisor. He needs to go. Now.

GabsAlot · 23/05/2020 13:27

disappointed in rishi seemed sensible but hes still a tory i guess

seriousandloyal · 23/05/2020 13:28

Yep!

DS statement on Cummings is shameful
Musicforsmorks · 23/05/2020 13:28

That Scottish woman had to resign after flouting lockdown didn’t she?

This is one special dude, haha.

I haven’t made my mind up about this one yet. He’s tricky. Boris wuvs him..😁

Nquartz · 23/05/2020 13:28

@VickyEadieofThigh it's the wording, I can't remember exactly but the DS statement suggests DC & his wife weren't spoken to but his parents might have been.

Cailleach1 · 23/05/2020 13:29

Wow. If I had been fined or stopped going somewhere, I'd want my money back. Which version is it? Always bad when there are versions. If two sick people drove on public roads while feeling unwell, they were putting everyone in danger. Nice close exposure for their child too; sitting in a car breathing in their droplets for hours. The plan meant that the child could then give it to the grandparents, etc, etc.

So were the police in contact about their arrival at the address or not? Irrespective of who they had a chat with.

Many people had circumstances like this. Everyone will have an excuse, exemplified by DS, to act in similar ways now.
