DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

“I really don't think it's that part of the story that people are concerned with! Who cares if the police spoke to him or not.”

Well it’s a bit concerning that the police say they did speak to a member of his family and Downing Street say they didn’t... because one of them is lying....so...

NoHardSell · 23/05/2020 12:14

yes, YogaLite those of you who followed the rules were fools, or useful fools perhaps. As a country we needed about 70% of people to follow the rules. Your call which group you chose to be in. Clearly, those at the top chose the 30%

Fallsballs · 23/05/2020 12:14

OMG imagine one of them lying, I’m so shocked 😱

OhTheRoses · 23/05/2020 12:16

What about the Queen and the Cambridges then? And Boris who convalesced at Chequers?

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 12:17

I wonder how they'll distract attention from this🤔
Maybe organise a trip to Disneyland for captain Tom

I was wondering this too!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/05/2020 12:19

the Downing Street statement is complete and utter bollocks. I was annoyed before but having read that I'm absolutely fuming! The fucking cheek of them! It's piss-taking of the highest order.

Mittens030869 · 23/05/2020 12:19

I'm appalled by this. You all self-isolate at home, you don't travel 250 miles so you can have help from family, vulnerable elderly parents in particular. I've had COVID-19 symptoms for weeks now, and DD2 (8) as well, though only for 4 days. It wouldn't occur to me to ask for help from my 80 year old DM.

There were 3 of them and one child, they should have sucked it up and coped at home, like millions of other families up and down the country.

And on a 250 mile journey, the odds are high that at least one of them would need to use the toilet, thus putting unwitting travellers at risk. Angry

YogaLite · 23/05/2020 12:20

And Jenrick and Charles amongst some other lesser characters. All above the law.

Yeah, that would be the 30%.

Schmoana · 23/05/2020 12:20

This is such a ridiculous thing for him to have done, I can’t help but thinking there’s more behind this. Most families of 2 adults with 1 child, and single parents would just have to suck it up and cope. Why on earth drive all that way?

There’s more to this. Might get to do with his mums birthday, but hopefully it will all come out. Can’t stand the man.

NoHardSell · 23/05/2020 12:20

We'll probably have a 'whose street does the best clap' competition alongside some more 'free' money. Maybe a new reporting tool to dob in your neighbours. Oh no ... maybe not that Grin

Bread and circuses

mondaynoon · 23/05/2020 12:21

The statement is such an insult to everyone who has made sacrifices over this time and especially the families of those who have died

Eugenieonegin · 23/05/2020 12:21

Lies, meanwhile Mary Wakefield deliberately wrote a misleading article about their self isolation and recovery,
“emerging to lockdown London “. Promoting her wonderful husband looking after her. But then they are more special than us.
As if two extremely wealthy people who work full time do not have things in place, and did not consider this before lockdown.

YogaLite · 23/05/2020 12:21

They will distract with BoJo wedding or somesuch.

NewAccountForCorona · 23/05/2020 12:24

There are tweets from Rishi Sunack, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab and others defending Cummings' action Hmm

I'm waiting for something from Matt Hancock - as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care surely he should say something Hmm

Foobydoo · 23/05/2020 12:25

There is no way they made that journey, with a baby without having to stop at services, putting many others at risk.
That is criminal in my opinion.

YogaLite · 23/05/2020 12:25

Same pack of wolves Angry

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 12:26

New Account maybe we should all tweet him asking him not to embarrass himself.

Surely if only one of you in a couple has definitely got the virus, you stay apart from them - you don't sit in a car together for hours on end.

DippyAvocado · 23/05/2020 12:28

They will probably put him up for the press conference or on the Andrew Marr show. He's been the one they regularly wheel out on days when there are difficult questions to answer since the Brexit days.

YogaLite · 23/05/2020 12:29

If Matt goes against the grain that would be another nail in his coffin, he can't win Sad

BigNoise · 23/05/2020 12:30

what an utter shower of shite they are...but tbh no more than I expected

bellinisurge · 23/05/2020 12:31

The rules were and are explicit if you have the virus - which his wife did.
Even if they both had the mythical bladders of Mumsnet where they don't ever need the toilet, their child would have needed it.
Which means they had to stop and interact with people.
Twats.

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 12:31

Why are they all colluding and supporting Dominic Cummins🤔
they must know how bad this looks, are they using this to distract attention from something even worse
Why are they playing it like this 🤔

Didkdt · 23/05/2020 12:31

This is partly speculative but I can't get too worked up.
As I understand it from a Guardian article last year Dominic Cummings has been seriously ill. Ill enough that he needed surgery that was potentially life saving. (March 19)
Other press articles talk about him being an outlier without many friends. So perhaps he didn't have anyone in London he could rely on.
I know lots of people don't like him so they should be thrilled that he may have a life limiting illness.
By March he knew people were dying. Healthy people.
If he thought his wife had it and he might get it then I suspect he would take his son to a safe space where he could be cared for if the worse happened.

And he was in a car not public transport. It might not be what everyone else would do but he did it, and I suspect he genuinely made a choice about the welfare of his son and I'm not about to judge him on that because we all do what we feel is best for our children.
