DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

I’m wondering that if gove, Sunak, Raab etc think this is within the rules what else they have all been up to? The rules at this stage were clear and they have been broken. If he was that ill that they needed childcare then someone could come to them but they weren’t that ill surely if they could do a 260 odd mile journey?

Butterymuffin · 23/05/2020 12:46

So much of the story doesn't make sense. Was his wife already ill, then it looked like he was also getting it? It was highly risky towards their own child, even if they don't care about anyone else's, to drive 250 miles, and surely if he was that ill he wouldn't have been safe to? Does his wife drive? Did they split the journey? I've seen people refer to a baby - do they have a baby and a 4 yo?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/05/2020 12:46

It concerns me, DS are saying Durham police are lying, someone certainly is and I would like to know who it is
Well they’re spinning it to the extreme rather than saying they are lying. Durham police say they spoke to ‘the owners’ of the property, Downing Street saying that the police didn’t speak to Cummings or members of his family. They’re going to argue that by family they mean Cummings, his wife and child IE not the parent that owns the house. Slippery fuckers.

MinkowskisButterfly · 23/05/2020 12:49

I saw this, absolute disgrace. And the excuses? Shameful! He should resign but he won't and DS won't cut him loose. Anyone who still had any faith in the current government and their handling of the covid situation will surely now see it in a whole new light? I am gobsmacked.

Nquartz · 23/05/2020 12:49

@Davespecifico #comincdummings is trending though

greathat · 23/05/2020 12:49

So if I get COVID or think I'm about to get it because my husband does I can travel to my family? I don't think so, pretty sure I'd be in trouble if I was caught.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 12:50

I really really don't want this to something we shrug off. How the fuck is Boris and his cronies so Teflon this doesn't matter?

There's a whole list of crap associated with the slimy gut.

The MPs that are supporting him presumably have a reason for choosing the frying pan over the fire?

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 12:51

Jobs. They reckon doing what they are told keeps their jobs.

What a load of lying tosh - can’t say I’m surprised.

I’m sure he, (along with his ghastly wife), feels far, far too clever and important to need to follow the same guidance as everyone else.

Also, I am always taken aback by Cummings’ startling resemblance to Mr Slugworth.

Blockofsunondesk · 23/05/2020 12:54

And he was in a car not public transport. It might not be what everyone else would do but he did it, and I suspect he genuinely made a choice about the welfare of his son and I'm not about to judge him on that because we all do what we feel is best for our children.

Hahahaha are you being serious? If they were so ill they couldn't provide basic care for their child how on earth could they drive hundreds of miles??? A joke.

I'm so angry about this. DH and I had CV (suspected) and had to take turns dragging ourselves out of bed to get the children (primary age) food etc - they just had to watch screens most of the day basically, nothing else to be done. I would never have dreamt in a million years of travelling to relatives.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/05/2020 12:55

Yes, as soon as Boris got rid of the ‘disloyal’ tories, anyone accepting jobs in cabinet would have known that if it ever came down to it and it was Cummings or them, Boris would choose Cummings. Let’s see if any of them have any integrity at all. Interesting if Matt Hancock hasn’t said anything in support yet.

Noextremes2017 · 23/05/2020 12:55

It is one rule for the wankers running (or ruining) the country.

Another rule for anyone else.

Just like the 14 day self isolation that will screw up a holiday abroad for most working people. If your name is Boris Johnson you'll probably still get 2 weeks on an exotic island paid for by somebody else; you can then come back, park yourself in a country mansion for 14 days and pretend you are working. Who will know ......

KenDodd · 23/05/2020 12:55

can't believe no10 has defended him, hope this brings them both down.
It won't.
I don't believe there is ANYTHING the Tories can do that will lose them the support of their voters, and DS knows this.
People are quite literally burying the relatives while saying what a great job Boris is doing on covid.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 12:55

Amid calls for his resignation after he was found to have travelled 264 miles across the country days after lockdown was imposed with his wife and child while symptomatic, Dominic Cummings has been snapped outside his home gesturing to members of the media to observe social distancing guidelines. Yes, really.

From the Guardian

GabsAlot · 23/05/2020 12:55

no the guidlines were to isolate if another member of your house hs symtpms he didnt do this incase he got worse

what a load of shite

Mistressiggi · 23/05/2020 12:56

Just one, 4 years old. So definitely needing some looking after. But not the way they did it.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 23/05/2020 12:56

This is going to lead to the biggest ever non compliance with lockdown rules /future lockdown rules.
BJ is a complete tit if he thinks he can get away with this.

I for one will not be taking the rules seriously in future unless that man resigns or is sacked.

Massive own goal there DS!

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 12:56

And here's your answer. They are all scum.

DS statement on Cummings is shameful

So he (with symptoms) and his children made it all the way from London to Durham without stopping to use a toilet anywhere?

AnyFucker · 23/05/2020 12:58

A Full House. We just need Ms Patel's bullshit take on the situation now.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 13:00

Except he left for Durham 3 days after they reported he himself has symptoms. There is evidence online that said he was isolating with symptoms before this date.
And they travelled which against the rules. And travelled to possibly put a young child who was in a family exposed and possibly infected into another household who they are now admitting was going to the supermarket. They themselves should have been isolating if looking after an infected family or members of infected households.

That statement digs more holes.

He should resign.

Or be sacked.

Mittens030869 · 23/05/2020 13:02

So none of them dare to say a word of criticism of Cummings, what a surprise.

BoJo must be dreading the cross examination from Kier Starmar at the next PM Questions, though.

MaxNormal · 23/05/2020 13:02

As I understand it from a Guardian article last year Dominic Cummings has been seriously ill. Ill enough that he needed surgery that was potentially life saving.

I heard it was a haemorrhoid operation.

I wouldn't say they must think he's a good guy. Politically necessary to them to deliver the Brexit they want, yes. But that's a different thing altogether.

C8H10N4O2 · 23/05/2020 13:02

Disappointing from Sunak. I think a silence from him would have said a thousand words

I'd assume he hasn't yet garnered enough power to go against Cummings and win a leadership election and doesn't want to end up on the back benches with his predecessor.

Sunak may be Mr Popular at the moment but he is just as right wing as Patel, Kwarteng and the young right from the 2010 intake.
