DS statement on Cummings is shameful

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 10:44

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

Listening she didn't reply to any of my emails about my ds when the law was being broken I needed her help to protect him.

Port1aCastis · 23/05/2020 19:59

This shit show of a government need to remember the electorate do not take kindly to being made fools of, the same electorate will remember how all this was handled at the polling booths in the next election.

BeltaneBride · 23/05/2020 20:00

Give it a rest! Both sick , snall boy needs looking after WWYD?
I would have done the same -good for him. I don't care that he is probably a horrible person -it was a solution and those who judge him are just playing politics -can you not get over your bitterness and show some humanity?

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2020 20:01

Not so sick he couldn't attend his mothers birthday party? What happy coincidence.

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 20:02

Maybe they did self isolate in London after all, and the 'need family help' story was just a cover for unrelated journeys to Durham?

His story has more holes than a seive.

27th his wife gets ill. Her story said he got ill the next day and was in bed for 10 days. At no point has he corrected his wife's version of events.

5th April he was seen in Durham. 12th April he was in London. 19th April it appears he was back in Durham.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 20:02

Just seen that - the sighting on the 19th, yes - but if the family were travelling back to London on the 12th they would be allowed to stretch their legs and buy food

Do you know where Barnard Castle is?

Ginger1982 · 23/05/2020 20:02

At the time he travelled, he wasn't sick. He just helped move the virus to Durham. How good of him.

MaxNormal · 23/05/2020 20:04

More on this from the mirror:

BeltaneBride looks like it's Dom that should have given it a rest.

randomer · 23/05/2020 20:04

@BeltaneBride so every family where the parents were unwell and the child is under the weather woudl be OK to travel hundreds of miles to another household?

If so, there must have been thousands up and down the motorways.

I would have begged, pleaded and bribed family to come and collect my child. I would not have stuck them in a metal box for 5+ hours with one person who obviously had covid and one who was coming down with it.

Especially if I was as wealthy and had the contacts of Cummings. Not a chance would I have gone for the most dangerous option for my child of driving them whilst ill and coughing.

WorriedMutha · 23/05/2020 20:05

So you reckon it's ok for him to stretch his legs 264 miles to Barnam Castle in County Durham Clavinova. Sure you do.

maudspellbody · 23/05/2020 20:05

Beltane, don't swallow the lies.

Plus - thousands of people. Many on this thread, me included, had to make difficult decisions when sick and in charge of children.

I'm a single parent of 2 with family a long distance away. I had a plan in case I got too sick to cope, but managed to get by on my own. One day, I crawled to the kitchen to make them dinner as standing up made me dizzy and my head hurt.

I made it through. Lots of us did.

And you might that that's more fool me for sticking to the rules, but there was no way on Earth I was going to risk giving it to a single other person.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 20:05

Love that the guardian appear to be drip feeding this .

12th April he was in London

I am confused - 12th April was Easter Sunday - the Guardian link says he was spotted in Barnard Castle on Easter Day.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 20:06

o every family where the parents were unwell and the child is under the weather woudl be OK to travel hundreds of miles to another househol

Or if 1 parent is ill - and the other isn't...

I wonder if he is capable of looking after a 4 yr old and a sick wife?

Many people are parents with a young child to look after. I wonder how many of them fled to the other side of the country when just 1 of them got ill?

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 20:07

I'd have waited until I got ill to be honest. I think I've had it and was very ill for three days. So had dh and I both been so ill at the same time I'd have called for help. I didn't however drive dh and the kids to a nicer house with more space to spend 14 days.

Unfortunately it now appears that there was more than one trip to Durham and he did not self isolate while he was there, so the story has quite a few holes.

it was a solution and those who judge him are just playing politics

Who knows what he thought he was doing, but the government has now effectively sacrificed their strategy of tracking, tracing, and isolating because they have told the public that they should just do what they think, and not bother with isolation if it is too hard.

They have also told people who haven't seen family for months, often in very difficult circumstances, that they should have know all along the the government were never THAT serious about the stay at home message.

Mrsmadevans · 23/05/2020 20:07

This is so unfair. He has to go .

Tavannach · 23/05/2020 20:07

the Guardian link says he was spotted in Barnard Castle on Easter Day

Do you know where Durham is relative to Barnard Castle and London?

Still - in the future, he can get there on the A66 with its new dual carriageway. Maybe we should talk about that?

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:08

He was back to work in Downing Street 14th April -

merrymouse · 23/05/2020 20:09

'Easter Day' is another name for 'Easter Sunday'.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 20:09

Yeah, let's talk roads and bike scheme vouchers! Much more important.

The Sun also states that Cummings was at Barnard Castle on Easter Day.
