DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

For a senior advisor he isn't very bright or honourable. We could all find a situation like and through the rules out of the window. Why bother, oh because we are all of stronger character and honour and can stand proud. DC go stand in the corner with a dunce hat on.

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 20:10

I am confused - 12th April was Easter Sunday - the Guardian link says he was spotted in Barnard Castle on Easter Day.

I mistyped sorry!

5th April Durham - 14th April he was back in London - 19th back in Durham

Snowjive2 · 23/05/2020 20:10

Yes the Guardian/Mirror reporters have played a blinder. Allowed the govt/DC the chance to do the decent thing, and when they not only failed but instead half the Cabinet told more lies to defend him, WHAM with the evidence of further visits and not even “staying put” in Durham.

I wonder what else they’ve got?

Mrsfussypants1 · 23/05/2020 20:11

"throw" darn predictive text.

Twitter is certainly interesting tonight!

Please let the Guardian and mirror have more!

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 20:13

19th back in Durham

Yes, that sighting is very awkward for him.

Ohmymg · 23/05/2020 20:13

Does anyone know for certain exactly where his parents home is?

I wonder what is happening now on the Conservative WhatsApp group Grin

WantToLeaveButItsHard · 23/05/2020 20:15

Even the Spectator have said Cummings
must go Shock

Noextremes2017 · 23/05/2020 20:15

Got to be honest about this - there are millions of people in London but I doubt any of them would want to help DC. I expect even his sister-in-law thinks he is a complete 'dick'.

Personally if I saw him dying in the gutter I'd have to leave him there on the basis that I'd be doing my country a greater service by doing so.

derxa · 23/05/2020 20:16

I wished they could get Andrew Neil to stand in tomorrow but his gone missing too ! Andrew's in France at his villa

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 20:18

From a socially distanced point of view you couldn't help him up as we need to be 2 m apart etc. One rule even Dom wanted to be adhered to today ; funny that !

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 20:18

Derxa, nice! Lucky Andrew.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 20:19

That press briefing was something else.
Nearly as good as PMQs.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 20:20

The conservative what's app group must be heaving with spite and bitterness I would imagine. How to get out of this might be up there!

lljkk · 23/05/2020 20:20

There are pictures of the senior Cummings' home on the Mirror. They live somewhere oop North Durham way.

Not that I actually think what DC did was so terrible, but his inability to see why it pushed the boundaries, to apologise for poor judgement when his wife was ill and he panicked, this could be a bit too human of him, though...

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 20:21

If there's more we'll need another thread. Grin

Today's briefing spoke a lot about bikes. I imagine there's a lot of backpedaling going on. Grin

ButteryPuffin · 23/05/2020 20:23

So who's doing Marr tomorrow?

They'll want this to burn itself out during the parliamentary recess. I hope it doesn't.

HatRack · 23/05/2020 20:24

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 20:25

I wouldn't be surprised if other MPs become reluctant to offer support knowing that there might be more to come out.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 20:26

It's like what the police do...just give them enough rope, then see what happens.

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 20:26

I wouldn't be surprised if other MPs become reluctant to offer support knowing that there might be more to come out.

Most of the senior ones already have offered support. They'll be furious that there's more coming out.
