DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

Yes, do please come back, Murtazah....

Happygirl79 · 23/05/2020 16:42

And where is Boris?
As usual sending out his minions to deal with the backlash re DC
He is without shame

Port1aCastis · 23/05/2020 16:42

My Mum lives in the same road haven't been near her for weeks but I'm bloody well going to visit her now, what's good for dodgy Dom is good for me

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 23/05/2020 16:42

Shapps drew the short straw today - enjoying watching him squirm as he gets a battering at the press conference today.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 16:42

So Shapps defended Cummings because the Sister and niece took food to the house in Durham

Why could Mary's brother not take food to the house in London from his house in London ?

1forsorrow · 23/05/2020 16:43

Well it is half term, I'm missing my GC, I live in a seaside town and think the kids would love a visit, their parents might get ill so I think they should drive down tonight. They'll stay put once they are here.

sandragreen · 23/05/2020 16:43

Best Press Conference for ages.

Love to see them hunting as a pack Grin

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 16:43

Why are people surprised at Rishi Sunak? He got the job when Sajid Javid refused to be a yes man. There's no way he'd have got in without being as much in cahoots with Cummings as Boris is

A friend of mine was the same but her children were sent to family because she needed to go into hospital on two occasions. It’s not always as easy as dragging yourself through it.

There's a huge difference between a child going elsewhere for essential care and two ill adults travelling for 5 hours.

They have family in London. They are wealthy, and connected, enough that the sister or one of the nieces could have been brought down to to collect the child.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 23/05/2020 16:43

If only there were some way that the big supermarkets could deliver?

beachcomber70 · 23/05/2020 16:43

Defending the indefensible in this situation is unforgiveable. Cummings has to go instead of sliming his way out of this and thinking we are all stupid.
What a balls up by the Tories.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 16:43

When did Cummings come BACK to London ?
What made that journey essential for his wife and child?

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 16:43

Its just so awful they cant even admit it was wrong and say it was a mistake to have done it.

This is what's made me so angry about it all. Rather than hold their hands up and say yes this was wrong. They're trying to make out that the rest of us misinterpreted the rules, and are claiming this has always been allowed. 100% Gaslighting

Daisydoesnt · 23/05/2020 16:43

And the advice was if a member of your household was showing symptoms they should try and isolate within your home (staying within a single room, using a separate bathroom if possible, the well person passing them meals - remember all that?)

This is rewriting of history to say now that if there are two adults and a small child, and one of you was ill then you can drive 200-odd miles to a different address just in case the second adult got ill.

lilgreen · 23/05/2020 16:44

I hope Keir Starmer pushes this.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 23/05/2020 16:44

...Oh, and please don't travel.

Thank You

biscuiteer · 23/05/2020 16:44

Cummings really is despicable. Years ago he would always be on the door of this shit nightclub we went to every week ( because there was nowhere else to go in Durham), looking and acting like a gestapo wannabe in this long leather coat, treating people like shit even then. He was the goady, smug little nephew of the owner. He's still hiding behind the 'big boys' acting like a greasy, slimy snake.

Port1aCastis · 23/05/2020 16:45

Brilliant press conference
Well done journos

FliesandPies · 23/05/2020 16:46

Journalists already despise Cummings as much as he despises them. I hope they sink their teeth in and won't let go til he's gone. Bite him hard!

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 16:46

Let's all rewrite the rules eh?
I'm off to shop lift because I didn't understand the arrows in Tesco meant 'stay clear ' I thought they meant to take something without paying for it!
I didn't get the rules : I can do what I want!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 23/05/2020 16:47

Oh good o! Shapps has just confirmed we only have to follow the advice 'to the best of your ability'. So it's not an instruction to follow the rules, as it was before.

Woo hoo we can all go and see our families on the other side of the country now, even for overnight stays, on the basis that we 'may' need relatives to help out with childcare.

This will be the single biggest contributer to the breakdown of lockdown conformity I fear.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 16:47

No noeuf anyone who is concerned they may become ill and won't be able to look after their child can go elsewhere - it's safeguarding Wink

I sent my friend who lives in Spain a message on FB asking her if I'm told I've been in contact through track and trace and need to isolate as no one can look after my disable ds can I drive to hers and isolate there? The comments are hilarious.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 16:48

The food he brought up must have defrosted in 5 hours! Give mum food poisoning as well as Covid! Ffs

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 16:48

The regulations say to stay in unless to provide care - relevant exception is to escape a risk of harm. Not sure that's met in this case.

What is this Food of the Gods that Cummings lives on that cannot be delivered by Sainsburys or Waitrose?

AnyFucker · 23/05/2020 16:50

Shapps: we have taken many steps forward (in managing this pandemic)

Well, today we have taken some fucking gigantic ones backward
