DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

Off to ask my MP if she thinks it's okay for my sister to come and stay in our annexe if they test positive. It's about 250 miles and they have a car. Sis and bil are front line nhs and are worried sick about childcare situ.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 16:51

Gnome you'll be fine! Don't worry about it. Oh wait, are you not in government?

The right wing press will let it go.
Telling the press to stay away from him.
I can do what the fuck I like! He is such a weasel.

FliesandPies · 23/05/2020 16:52

Oh good o! Shapps has just confirmed we only have to follow the advice 'to the best of your ability'. So it's not an instruction to follow the rules, as it was before

And all those people who have been or due to be prosecuted/fined for breaking the rules (or even 'the spirit of the rules' as my local force would have it) are instantly absolved - good news!

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 16:52

This will be the single biggest contributer to the breakdown of lockdown conformity I fear.

Which is terrible, unless of course you were wanting herd immunity and everyone going out and about normally anyway...

Also terrible timing with it being a bank holiday weekend, again unless you were wanting people out and about

Win win for Cummings. People hated him anyway. Now they hate him, he gets to show us all just how much of the cabinet he has in his pocket and to get him back a lot of people will inadvertantly do exactly what he wants done.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 16:52

Food of the gods! 😂
I needed a laugh today.

FliesandPies · 23/05/2020 16:53

The right wing press will let it go

The Sun didn't sound too happy about it and the DM online site sound very critical too.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 16:53

Yes you're right noeuf you can leave home to provide care. Doesn't say leave home to seek care. Excellent point.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 16:54

Maybe they won't , but DC was so arrogant. Absolute shit show

OldLace · 23/05/2020 16:54

Good Qu's from The Sun:

When and what did BJ know about DC's actions?
'Err, don't know the timings / was BJ in hospital at the time'?

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 16:55

Why is the bbc journo currently trying to sound like she is justifying it.

Lastminutenoworries · 23/05/2020 16:55

What Dominic Cummings has done makes such a mockery of the rules.
Why would anyone listen to the government after this.

SouthWestmom · 23/05/2020 16:56

Weird which is sensible because people travelling to provide care is fine - it keeps the ill person in one place.

I just don't get why the guidance was issued as it was if actually this was perfectly acceptable.

I can't find anything in the published guidance or the regulations that says 'use your common sense'

mrsspooky · 23/05/2020 16:56

Has shattered the lock down so spectacularly its almost as if it was planned. Does the government just wants us to hurry up and get herd immunity all over with so are now backtracking and giving us reason to go out? its all very strange!

RubyViolet · 23/05/2020 16:59

Matt Hancock said staying at home was an instruction not a request. I am so angry that us plebs have followed this guidance and not seen our families.... l could cry.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 17:00

His eugenics policies are working then!
Well done DC!

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 17:01

Hancock instructed us to do something that DC couldn't do!
😡😤😬
Why are people defending him?

shushymcshush · 23/05/2020 17:02

Lock down is in the bin. Majority now seem to have sacked it off, so do what you want. If you get it, "take it on the chin"....oh yeah where have I heard that before????

Pathetic how people can't stick to rules for 5 mins.

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 17:02

This guy thinks it was very clear and draws a line under it. Some people really will defend the undefendable

cuparfull · 23/05/2020 17:03

Heaven forbid!
What a shambles!
Hey, let's be charitable and accept Cummings panicked when he found out his wife had Covid symptoms. Given his boss Boris was poorly with CV19 lets say he was scared seeing the deteriorating condition of the PM but is that an excuse to malign the Durham police?

Can we, his paymasters, expect a measure of honesty, a full explanation of why he's saying that no police officer spoke with members of his family.
I expect pressure will be put on the Durham force to retract any suggestion they spoke to the family. Oh soooo shameful.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 17:03

Lockdown , mock down !
It's been binned for sure.

teaandajammydodger · 23/05/2020 17:03

I’m not feeling great and could do with my sister in Scotland looking after my DC. So it’s perfectly okay for me to head up there today?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 23/05/2020 17:06

Yes, bollocks. He should be sacked.

B1rdbra1n · 23/05/2020 17:06

it's on then, we can all play fast and loose with the guidlines
play cats cradle with the rules to make up for sticking to them at the kick off
what dumb saps we were
lets all go out and have it large now

mrsspooky · 23/05/2020 17:07

The sad thing is that this does destroy the lockdown and its not Dominic Cummings who will suffer for it is it :( Definitely time to end the clapping now its gone to stabbing in the back instead.
