Supermarket Queuing

How much longer do you think this will go on for? Massive queue at the local supermarket today, lots of people looking more and more fed up.... how long do you think before this is relaxed somewhat? Will there be quick queues for small basket shops?

Noticed people aren't social distancing inside shops. Once you're in there it's like nothings going on.

DahliaDay · 20/05/2020 21:36

It will go on for as long as need be...... the staff need protecting

Igotta · 20/05/2020 21:37

People queue up outside then get inside and it's no difference than normal.

becausewewantto · 20/05/2020 21:38

Just seems so inefficient to have to queue for more time than it takes to actually get your shopping done!

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 21:38

I guess until the 2 metres apart rule no longer applies. Then more people can be let in.
Evenings are better if you don't want to queue.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 21:39

Of course it's inefficient but it's for a reason and as a PP said the staff need protecting too.

mrsbyers · 20/05/2020 21:39

Our Morrison’s has a basket only entrance point

Fatted · 20/05/2020 21:40

You need to go to another supermarket. I haven't queued up outside for longer than a few minutes for weeks..

Chelsea567 · 20/05/2020 21:43

Try Waitrose

Zillaindie · 20/05/2020 21:44

Morrisons are rolling out basket only queues. For every person with a trolley they let two people with baskets.

Better to queue outside than inside for the checkout.

Until its snowing. Confused

WithIcePlease · 20/05/2020 21:46

My Waitrose has an awful queue
I've gone to Lidl as only supermarket I pass with no queue and I regularly pass about 6 supermarkets

becausewewantto · 20/05/2020 21:48

This is so sensible, it's a shame more of the big supermarkets aren't introducing it.

OP posts:
ClassicCola · 20/05/2020 21:49

I've only queued once to get in at Tesco and even though the queue looked long I was only queuing for about 10 minutes. But I think some tescos are letting more people in at a time now.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 20/05/2020 21:53

Morrisons are rolling out basket only queues. For every person with a trolley they let two people with baskets.

That’s a great idea.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 21:53

AFAIK the amount of people let in is dependent on the square foot of the shop floor, so bigger supermarket=smaller queue.

fortyfifty · 20/05/2020 21:58

Hmmm - not sure about a quick queue for baskets in big supermarkets. That just introduces more people into the store more times per week. Much better if people go to the supermarket less frequently and buy more when they are there. Small shops should be used for top ups. Obviously this is different if you don't have a car and are going on foot to the supermarket.

ssd · 20/05/2020 21:58

The social distancing is just as important now as at the start of this. Queues are here for a while.

ClassicCola · 20/05/2020 21:58

I have a relative who works in a big superstore Tesco and they have upped the amount of people they let in.

OnlyThenWhen · 20/05/2020 22:00

My local Asda is awful.
Nobody enforcing the one way system, and too many in at a time. They also let a family of six (presume 2 parents, three later-teenage children and one younger child) in today.
Tesco much better at enforcing, so I go there.

MrsFezziwig · 20/05/2020 22:00

Nor me. I go anytime from teatime or later - now they’re opening into the evening queues are rare then. I haven’t had any more trouble getting most things than the people who are queuing at 8 a.m.

I am lucky though to have about half a dozen decent sized supermarkets within a five mile radius.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 20/05/2020 22:02

Iceland and M&S don’t seem to have much queue, also I went to Waitrose once on a wet day and there wasn’t a queue, I think queueing May go on for a long time

confusednortherner · 20/05/2020 22:05

Our Morrison's obviously need counting lessons then as the basket queue stood gobsmacked the other afternoon as none of them got in but they let endless trolleys in until someone pointed out the system wasn't quite working!!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/05/2020 22:10

The amount of couples and families in my local asda was ridiculous, especially as they seem to like standing right in the centre of the bloody aisle.

Get what you need and move!!

ladypete · 21/05/2020 02:06

Since “stay alert” I haven’t queued.
I find it so strange, like everyone’s forgotten.

Redolent · 21/05/2020 03:00

The queues will stop when supermarkets start masking face masks mandatory.
