Fuck I’ve got a sore throat

I have a sore throat that has only just started. I’m worried that if it is the coronavirus I can only have caught it from my children, who split their time between here and their fathers house who is a key worker. Won’t this mean that I will have had a huge viral dose or load or whatever it’s called? My children are young enough to be all over me most of the day. Tonight I noticed as well that my eldest has had a bit of a cough all day. I had put it down to hayfever, other than that they are both absolutely fine.

A sore throat is not a symptom you can book a test with.

Are you telling the op to lie?

RHTawneyonabus · 18/05/2020 22:20

I was spent the day with someone who was going down with the virus. Within a few days I had an awful sore throat which went away after three days and that was the only symptom I had. No idea if I’d caught it or not.

Sunshinegirl82 · 18/05/2020 22:22

I love mumsnet. My friend went for a test the other day prior to her admission to hospital. There were 2000 free appointments at the test centre on that day.

Her child has a cough, provided she is over 5 she would be eligible. Happier about that?

Happymum12345 · 18/05/2020 22:23

My dd has been coughing since January & sore throats can definitely be brought on by stress. Try not to worry. I know it’s easier said than done.

PurpleDaisies · 18/05/2020 22:25

Someone who has a cough has one of the three key symptoms. Of course they should have a test.

Sunshinegirl82 · 18/05/2020 22:26

Great. She said her DS had a cough. So problem solved!

ofwarren · 18/05/2020 22:29

When I ended up with symptoms it started with a sore throat and then a disgusting metallic taste in my mouth.
The pain was stabby rather than raw, if that makes sense.
Within 24 hours I felt dreadful.

CornishTiger · 18/05/2020 22:31

Mine started with razor like sore throat. Within 24hrs I was horrendous too.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 18/05/2020 22:32

I'm sure I also had it back in march and my illness started with a hoarseness to my throat, so she absolutely could have it and she absolutely should isolate with her kids until a test states otherwise.

whattodo2019 · 18/05/2020 22:39

Gargle with dilute Milton 1:40
Make up 2 pints and keep gargling through the day

whattodo2019 · 18/05/2020 22:40

Make your children gargle too

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/05/2020 22:44

May as well ring for a test

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/05/2020 22:45

They can advise rather than relying on Mumsnet opinions

PurpleDaisies · 18/05/2020 22:46

Er, where’s that medical advice from @whattodo2019?

Secil · 18/05/2020 22:51

A sore throat is a symptom according to WHO, as well as -
aches and pains, nasal congestion, headache, conjunctivitis, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell or a rash on skin or discoloration of fingers or toes.

They have updated it.

antipodalpizza · 18/05/2020 23:00

I've had one and off sore throats since lockdown started as well as horrendous hay fever. If it's covid then it's very very mild, not as bad as a cold and been going for two months. I'm sure it's not.

ThelmaDinkley · 18/05/2020 23:00

Gargling with Milton?! That’s never right surely

antipodalpizza · 18/05/2020 23:03

Don't gargle with Milton fgs

I just watched the 10 o’clock news and they listed sore throat among the symptoms of covid there so.... yeah I say get tested

BlahBlahYapYap · 18/05/2020 23:07

I've had a sore throat for 4 days now. I'm shielding and no-one in my house has been out since early March.

Its a sore throat.. not Covid-19. We can still have illnesses. Get a test if you are worried Flowers

avroroad · 18/05/2020 23:10

Yes. Sore throat is listed as a symptom.

No. It's not listed as one of the 3 symptoms that did take whether you can get a test or nots

Scbchl · 18/05/2020 23:11

Mine started off with a sore throat and head. Then the other symptoms developed. Never coughed once though. Tested positive.

DoogleBug · 18/05/2020 23:20

I can’t drive so don’t think I would be able to get a test either for me or DS unfortunately. My throat is really sore and DS is coughing more since he fell asleep although hasn’t woken with it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 18/05/2020 23:22

I’m pretty sure you can apply for a home test?

Greenmarmalade · 18/05/2020 23:30

Sounds likely. But don’t panic.

I had sure throat, achy back, massive headache, sore eyes, reduced sense of smell. My kids had various symptoms. My youngest (20mths) had an awful fever for 8days, cough and rash. I’m sure we had it. We all recovered fine.

If it were me, I’d take vitamin d3, vitamin c and rest as much as possible. If DEFINITELY self-isolate to protect others, just in case.
