The last Saturday before lockdown

What were you doing?

I had a lovely afternoon in town with DH looking at guitars in music shops, buying some wine and bits for dinner. Really mundane stuff by usual standards but I'd give anything to do that now. We came home on a crowded bus - I had no idea it'd be the last time I'd use public transport for months!

I can’t remember but I had a big weekend away from home early Feb at around the time Brighton guy got it. We were not talking about it really, no clue what was to come.

A walk on a windy, sunny beach with some friends, thinking that it might be the last time for a while.

Lockdown startwd on 23 March but Restaurants closed on the 20th so I don't know how you were all having lovely meals out on the last weekend before lockdown.

I do remember going out to lunch on one Saturday maybe it was the last one, using hand gel and feeling a bit funny about being out. It was pretty quiet.

You're absolutely right TeaforTara, my memory was of the weekend before (ie: 2 weeks before lockdown!)
I'd forgotten that Mother's Day was that last weekend. Although I adore my mum, by then we had decided it wasn't a good idea to meet up xx

They’d already shut schools though so surely people knew it wasn’t a good time to be going out in public? I’m amazed that people were out shopping and out for meals! We cancelled our Mother’s Day plans and that was it really.

I went out with a friend to do a spot of shopping (it was quite quiet). We even had some afternoon tea in M&S. Waterstones was full of people stocking up on books and the local Apple Store closed down mid-afternoon. Oh the excitement!

An early moorland walk. We sort of knew it would be our last for a while.

We had already been in lockdown for a week at that point.

Went to see friends in Birmingham on the train, did some shopping and had dinner out. So glad I did now

We finished school a few days early so I doubt the lunch I mentioned was after this. Probably the weekend before or more. Hard to remember.

I was supposed to be going out with friends we hadn't seen for years and then they bloody closed the restaurants so we didn't meet!

The annoying thing was I had made plans to see them the week before but my sister asked if I could swap the dates (as she was babysitting) so I could've had my last big night out 😫

We went for a bike ride. It was clear it was about to kick off and we didn’t know how tight restrictions would be so we made the most of the outdoors!

7th March I was flying back from Fuertuventura
14th March I was celebrating my mums 70th, dinner out with the whole family
By 21st, I stayed at home the whole day and realised it must have been the first day of 2020 where I had spent absolutely nothing

Met my FWB & had a great night in a cheap hotel on the Saturday night. Went to posh wine bar on the Sunday where we got lashed & ate great food & then waved each goodbye at the station .
A very good last weekend

According to the diary I've been writing every day, the week between 16th & 22nd March, I was getting organised, with the first line saying, 'This shit is getting real!'

I'd bought seeds and compost and a small greenhouse. Borrowed jigsaws (still haven't done them!). Had blood test so I could get a couple of months worth of the drugs I take and had a pneumonia jab at the doctors.

Didn't see anyone that first weekend I don't think. Apart from collecting a box of teabags from my friends porch and a quick conversation with her.

Got my hair cut, met DP afterwards and we had coffee and cake, then I picked up a dress I’d ordered from Zara, and we went to M&S to get some things for dinner.

That was Saturday 14 March, so the weekend before my work suspended face to face teaching - lockdown was maybe the week after, actually.

I was doing the last bits of prepping that weekend. I think I was at Tesco at midnight trying to find veg 😂

On a normal weekend we be at my sons disability swimming lessons, mooching around the shops for dinner and meeting my mate in M&s cafe in the morning.

But not that weekend as I was too worried about feeding four kids in desamated shops

I work for the NHS so it was all kicking off,I did lots of overtime, being imaginative with cooking as all the shop shelves were empty and our town was(and is still)recovering from the floods.Lots of shops had to stop refits and are you n the same condition. Some will never reopen.
