What were you doing?

I had a lovely afternoon in town with DH looking at guitars in music shops, buying some wine and bits for dinner. Really mundane stuff by usual standards but I'd give anything to do that now. We came home on a crowded bus - I had no idea it'd be the last time I'd use public transport for months!

We cancelled a planned weekend away as DS had an upset stomach - so regret that we didn't make it as would have seen lovely sister in law & DN, obviously haven't been able to see them since. Life was already starting to change - we had been self isolating until the previous weekend as DS had suspected C19 following a school ski trip to Italy at half term, although test result was negative. On 14 March our long awaited holiday to New Zealand to visit family there was cancelled. Like another poster, already feeling fearful by then.

monkeyonthetable · 17/05/2020 08:26

DC had a party so DH and I went out to the cinema, a restaurant and a pub. Felt like a really quiet night, passing the time before coming back to check on the teenagers. Looking back, it seems so active and out there!

This was early March. By the following weekend, we were cancelling concerts and dinners.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/05/2020 08:28

Went to town to collect my daughters new glasses. It was already starting to feel strange in town. Got some art and hobby supplies for my children as it was looking like schools might close. Very glad I did.

Bathbedandbeyond · 17/05/2020 08:30

Weekend at a fancy hotel, lovely food, lovely company. Great send off.

IcyApril · 17/05/2020 08:33

We knew lockdown was probably coming. The shops were already empty but we had to go as I had tried to order things online we needed for the birth of our new baby and couldn’t get them. We went to the shops, had a five guys then came home.

IndiaMay · 17/05/2020 08:35

I had my wedding dress fitted. What a fool I was.

gatter · 17/05/2020 08:38

I took DS2 to play for his football team in central London. We got the bus there and back. I remember putting anti bac gel on our hands as we got off the bus and wondering if I was being OTT! It was quieter than usual though, with less than half the usual matches taking place. You could sense things were about to change!

Marshmanimal · 17/05/2020 08:43

14th/15th-we had my son’s birthday party at laserquest, went to a national trust park and to a farm.
I knew things were going tits up and that we might not be out again for a while so I took lots of photos, let the kids have whatever milkshakes they wanted and generally wandered around with a sense of foreboding!

Joan0fSarc · 17/05/2020 08:50

@IndiaMay when was your wedding going to be? Have you rearranged it?

Also, Flowers

I cleaned my house too to bottom and avoided the supermarket.

Mu kids had been in 2 week quarentine with their dad as they had been to Italy with their dad. They were coming out on the Sunday and I had the week booked off work to spend with them.

The week off got cancelled as we got notice lockdown was coming and my team needed to set up from home. It was fine as we were still all here together.

So my Saturday before lockdown wasn't that exciting. Sunday was great.

BunsyGirl · 17/05/2020 08:57

I was ill so did nothing - I started being ill on 20 February. The last time I did anything on a weekend was 15 February.

MurrayTheMonk · 17/05/2020 08:59

We were already in as dd1 has been symptomatic the week before and that was the advice even though lock down Proper hadn't started.
The week before that though we went to Westfield and it was very quiet even then except in Waitrose where the panic buying was just kicking in.

mummyh2016 · 17/05/2020 09:04

On the 14th I was out for food and drinks for a friends birthday. I remember the DJ in one of the bars saying something about it being the last Saturday night out of 2020 and thinking how dramatic!
On the 21st I went and collected my parents from the airport after they'd been in Australia for a month. I remember being how shocked at how empty the arrivals hall was at the airport, looking at the departure board I would say around 9/10 flights were cancelled. I saw some Jet2 crew saying goodbye to each other, and heard them say they didn't know when they would see each other again which made me sad. I was just so happy my parents managed to get back, the following day their airline cancelled all flights, giving only 3 days notice. They'd probably still be in Australia now if they hadn't have been booked to come back when they did.

zafferana · 17/05/2020 09:08

I don't know what I did on that particular Saturday, but I definitely made the most of the week leading up to it. I went to two exercise classes that were then shut down, I got my hair cut and coloured on Fri 20th (just before the schools closed), I had a walk in the park with my friend and her dog, and DH and I went to the garden centre and bought plants for our pots and some big bags of top soil and compost. I cancelled a session with my physio and also eye tests for my DC as I felt they weren't essential. I'm so glad we made the most of our last gasps of normal life. I'd love to just go and browse in some shops now. I miss normal life too OP.

Trumpton · 17/05/2020 09:13

We went into lockdown on Thursday 26th March but I was already in quarantine as I returned to the island Friday 20th after an operation in England on the 17th. ( The day the 14 day quarantine came into force for people coming to island )
So my last free Saturday was 14th March .
Coffee out in morning . Wander up to nice shopping centre for DH to order a fab tweed jacket ( he has been lusting after one for years )
Then a lovely dinner at a local pub with friends and an evening of music and dance at an arts centre .
I miss my old life !

Joan0fSarc · 17/05/2020 10:27

Lots of people I know have all these huge plans for exciting things they're going to do once lockdown is over. Me, I'm going to cry tears of joy when I get on a bus to do a bit of shopping in town, or go to my local for a pint with DH (if it reopens). All the mundane stuff which in the beforetimes often got on my tits because it was so routine. I want the mundane, routine stuff back more than I want fancy holidays or big nights out. The sort of day my last Saturday before lockdown was, in fact. But without the constant weight of impending doom hanging over me, as it was then.

Imagine how wonderful that will be.

Went to the local museum and to a really popular restaurant which was packed plus a couple of bars the week before. The Saturday before lockdown I did university pick up.

okiedokieme · 17/05/2020 11:29

The thing I most want to do is sit outside the pub with a cask ale, this is pretty low risk if they spread the tables out and could be done now if the government allowed it, luckily the landlord is delivering beer at the moment but it's not the same

megletthesecond · 17/05/2020 11:33

yy joan. Tbh I'll be thrilled when I can be in my house alone for a couple of hours and have a good tidy up. I miss gym classes and parkrun but I think that'll have to wait until next year.

CeibaTree · 17/05/2020 11:36

We went to Kew Gardens during the day, and that evening I met a friend for dinner and cocktails in central London. I'm so glad I did as I was feeling rather lazy after a long day walking around Kew so was really tempted to cancel the evening. I remember the train on the way home was really deserted for a Saturday night, so I guess a lot of people had already decided to stay at home.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/05/2020 11:39

Had cancelled my weekend away, for some reason we did not see my DM Sad
I think ds cooked
trying to convince dd to come home, one dd had already come home and we were stocking up on loo rolls and doing dm shopping.
just nervous

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/05/2020 11:41

I had been noticing people in the queue coughing without using their hands !

OldEvilOwl · 17/05/2020 11:43

We had a memorial service for my uncle who had died a few weeks earlier after a long illness. I'm so glad we were able to do this, and my mum and all her siblings were able to be with him when he passed. Another few weeks and he would have been by himself in that hospital bed. We went to the pub afterwards for drinks which went on quite late

OldEvilOwl · 17/05/2020 11:45

Actually I think this was the Saturday before that one

TokyoSushi · 17/05/2020 11:49

It was my 40th birthday. My party was cancelled, my replacement dinner at The Ivy was cancelled, but my lovely friends surprised me and came for a little breakfast party in my kitchen. Then we took the dog to the beach and my parents came to see us in the evening. It was actually really lovely, I've not seen my parents since and have only seen local friends by standing at each others doorsteps for 10 minutes while dropping various things off.

So far I have spent all of my 40's in lockdown, I miss my old life!
