New thread,

I won't be a very good host as I tend to dip in and out of these things but have filled up the last thread. (Sorry)

@baroqueandblue, I hope you get some answers from your X-ray (is that different to a normal chest X-ray do you know?). We have similar issues and my bloods, Sats etc were also fine.

@bumhead another negative antibody test in someone with credible symptoms. I’m losing faith in these tests.

@longshot your relapse sounds awful. I hope it is over quickly.

@eyebrowsofinstagram I can’t believe your neighbour. Awful.

alittleprivacy · 22/05/2020 13:37

Does anyone know anything about how aspirin might effect us in the later stages? I've stopped taking ibuprofen because I do think it's responsible for the sores I've developed all over my mouth and throat. I'm considering switching to dissolvable aspirin so I can gargle it before swallowing.

I haven't taken aspirin in nearly a decade because of ttc/pregnancy/breastfeeding so it's something I can't help but think of as dangerous because of it being such a no/no for so long. But it's supposed to be good for inflammation.

hollieberrie · 22/05/2020 13:47

hello all

@longshot so sorry to hear about your relapse. Good reminder about taking it easy. I'm on day 71 too. My main issue is still ears and dizziness but am being careful not to overdo things, have some mild burning in my chest and a headache and dont want that to worsen.

@baroqueandblue Great that the A&E visit went smoothly, fingers crossed its an upwards trajectory for you from here on.

I had my antibody test this morning, results in a couple of days. Doctor said theres about a 2% risk of false negative. But the link to research further back on our thread said only 87% accurate if you had the virus more than 40 days ago! If mine is negative then I'll definitely get the Roche one done too when its available. If both are negative then i may have to accept it wasnt Covid! Am so sure it was though, i'll let you all know. @Egghead68 really hope yours comes back positive.

longshot · 22/05/2020 13:48

@egghead68 I’ve also wondered this too about the relapses. I genuinely didn’t think I had overdone it. I have been careful to build up gradually but as someone said upthread we probably need to build slightly week by week not day by day.

Weeks ago I thought ‘I know I’ll do 500 more steps a day’. Soon realised that was too much. Then I thought ‘I’ll increase by 1k a week), so an average of 6000 a day or whatever. I kind of managed this but then started having tired days so ‘allowed myself’ 4000 steps or whatever. Now I’m back in bed feeling awful. Instead of any target I’m not going to even look at my steps, there’s literally no point. If I feel like a walk and want to go I will. If I don’t I won’t. I can’t do anything today yoga, walking, struggled to empty the dishwasher so I kind of think the targets are pointless. My target is to feel ‘ok’ in myself 80% of the time whilst at rest. If this means no work and no walks etc so be it.

I think I’m realising on here and on that slack group that lots of people suffering like this are young and previously active and fit. I thrive on my targets and getting stuff done! We are prime candidates for chronic fatigue so I’ve read so we need to stop ourselves and say ‘I nearly died I’m gonnna just chill for a few months’ our old lives aren’t coming back next week. The silver lining is we ain’t missing anything much currently (other than lovely runs!!) I keep reminding myself if I had been nice admitted to hospital i would be expecting it to take a long time to recover.

Mittens030869 · 22/05/2020 13:51

Sadly, I'm feeling really down again today. It was reassuring to receive a negative result, but discouraging in that my temperature has been up again today,. I was up and about finally and did our family shopping.

Another 'false dawn' in effect. Sad

godhelpusall · 22/05/2020 13:51

@hollieberrie I read something about different immune responses so some people may not show antibodies because they didn't use the ones being measured. But I'm not sure I understand!

bumhead · 22/05/2020 14:02

@Egghead68 are other posters also reporting negative antibody results?

Sad I actually can't believe how gutted I am to get a negative, the only positive I thought I had was that if I'd had I then maybe my mum would have some antibodies by default because she is staying with us since my dad died just before lockdown.

Moodgie · 22/05/2020 14:02

How many of us here actually had a positive covid test (the swab one) and how many had a positive antibody test?
I had a negative swab one and no antibody yet. It must have been cv for all of us and the amount of negative antibody tests here is rather significant I think. I am assuming these tests are the ones that are meant to be unreliable? Not the Roche ones?

Lightsabre · 22/05/2020 14:10

@bumhead, sorry to hear about your dad. I had a negative private antibody test at 28 days - it wasn't the Roche or Abbott test. I don't think anyone has posted on here who has had a positive apart from findingschools4myboys. She/he has done several antibody tests for their family and found one child was negative despite having the same symptoms as the others who had antibodies and all tested positive.

hollieberrie · 22/05/2020 14:10

@godhelpusall i think i read that too! bit im not at all scientifically minded. Something about some people fighting it off with T cells rather than creating antibodies?

I haven't done a swab, seems no point as im day 71, but i too will be gutted if antibody test is negative so i totally get it @bumhead And so sorry for your loss. Both my parents passed away in recent years and i've found that this time of being ill and on lockdown has caused a bit of a grief resurgence.
My antibody test is the Abbott one. I think thats the main available one at the moment? Are you going to do one @Moodgie ?

AndsLee · 22/05/2020 14:16

@hollieberrie @godhelpusall @moodie Take a wee look at the link I posted...BBC news. Might help explain about antibodies and T-cells...
And...why out underarms, groins and stomachs are aching/burning...

Mittens030869 · 22/05/2020 14:17

@bumhead I can understand why you'd be gutted. I think I'd feel the same, as well as worried, Because if the possibility that I would be vulnerable to catching COVID-19 now, especially with everything opening up again.

I was feeling reassured that having had the virus meant that I had some protection from contracting it again.

In our case, it would be me and DD2 who I would expect to test positive (and possibly DD1, who is very rarely ill so may have had it without symptoms).

We'll only know how reliable or otherwise the antibody test is when people who actually did test positive for COVID-19 take the antibody test. Will Boris Johnson step forward to take the test??

Moodgie · 22/05/2020 14:19

@hollieberrie I will wait for the Roche test.

mumlurker · 22/05/2020 14:20

Hi all. Day 70 here, another landmark. I've also decided to focus on the idea that this might take six months to a year. My hope in the medium term is to feel like my old self when I'm resting and not to have to spend most of the day in bed, even if I can't exercise for months and months.

Fishflakes · 22/05/2020 14:24

Just wanted to send good wishes to everyone from I think week 10 or do.
My DD is another flare up of it, low grade fever, nausea, stomach pain, exhaustion. GP recommended antigen testing got her so I ordered the postal kit. I don’t know why unless they want to help out the government’s daily test count. We’ll do it but will be expecting a negative. We already tested and had a negative. Otherwise there isn’t anything new they are offering her. Luckily she loves the taste of Calpol.

I feel stronger though, walking around the house is a lot easier. Still got the whining in my ears and shooting limb pains and brain fog but the exhausted walking through treacle heaviness seems to have gone.

Mittens030869 · 22/05/2020 14:25

I'm on day 101, sadly. I don't understand this at all. Is it post viral? But i still have symptoms, a temperature today and cough, chest pain.

I guess I'll have to call the surgery and they'll prescribe antibiotics.

At least I'm not puking anymore.

Lightsabre · 22/05/2020 14:36

@Mittens030869, have you had blood tests recently?

Rosesofeyam · 22/05/2020 14:47

Moominmama It's strange feeling pain when touching hot/cold things. Touching frozen things is so painful at the moment I had to get DD to take out the frozen chicken breasts.

Lightsabre I was on steriods for 3 weeks. They really helped with my breathing and kept the inflammation down.
I felt rough for a few days after finishing them.
Having asthma I take them a few times a year, usually only for 5-7 days.

Day 65

Feeling SOB today. Had a bad pressure type headache this morning. I still have aches and pains everywhere.
I'm trying to pace myself and do one thing at a time.

Great to hear some are doing better and hugs for everyone else.Flowers

Mittens030869 · 22/05/2020 14:50

@Lightsabre I had blood tests in week 6, and a chest X-ray, because they were concerned that there might be a problem with my heart. I knew there wasn't. The blood test were clear, apart from there being a raised infection level. Previous blood tests had shown that, it's the reason why I catch every infection going round.

I was supposed to be having a chest X-ray, so I could chase that up.

Maybe now I've tested negative for COVID-19, I could actually get a face to face GP appointment? I'll chase them up after the bank holiday.

LetsBeSensible · 22/05/2020 15:05

@bumhead sorry to hear it was negative. Maybe you had that other virus a lot of us have had, the one that is EXACTLY like covid, but isn’t covid.

Egghead68 · 22/05/2020 15:13

@bumhead. I am so sorry about your Dad. There is a separate thread about antibody tests called something like “I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us” where only one person has had a proper positive.

@longshot it’s like you read my mind. I always operate on targets and over schedule my time in normal life. I need to forget about targets ( I think we were setting similar ones of 500 more steps a day) and just go with the (gentle) flow. Thanks so much for your posts today.

Sorry you are all having a bad day

Does anyone still have tight sinuses? I started with it and it's still occasionally tight again.

Linus1972 · 22/05/2020 16:28

@Egghead68 1K of walking a day is what I usually manage if I potter around my small flat. I've been trying 3-5K walks a day depending on how I feel. I try to be strict about when to turn back (if I'm halfway and tired, it's too late), and about just doing a bit more, even if I feel like I can manage, and I always try to build in a rest on a bench or wall if it's going to be a longer walk. Hope you are able to find an amount your body can tolerate without setbacks.

@eyebrowsofinstagram your neighbour sounds like a charmer WineShock Wine If anything she could have some other bug that you don't want to catch while you're still ill.

@bumhead sorry about your negative antibody result. The current tests available aren't always accurate. There's still so much that we don't know about this virus and how people fight it.

Hi, start of week 9 today for me. Is anyone else still coughing? Mine seems to have gotten worse in the last couple of weeks and I'm producing clear/white spit/phlegm which has a salty taste. I read an article ages ago on the BBC website that said people will cough up bits of dead lung cells, which terrifies me to be honest because I've been doing that for 9 weeks (my lungs have never really been an issue though and an x-ray I had 6 weeks in didn't show anything up). My DH says it's probably from my sinuses (which I suffer from normally) but I've never this before with them. The cough is driving me mad and makes me worry about being outside near other people.

Tried to have a nap this afternoon as I'm getting increasingly tired during the day due to lack of sleep but as usual, I start to drift off, then my throat makes a sound like "gk" and I wake up. It's like this virus doesn't want me to sleep as I'll heal faster.

Several days of coming off Nexium and gas/blating seems to have gone away. Hoping the acid reflux which prompted me to start taking it in the first place will not return - I've changed my diet a lot since those days and am also sleeping on three pillows so fingers crossed.
