Some people want the death rate to go back up

Well looks like lockdown has ended. Went to the doctors today and saw 3 groups of teenagers together at least 5 per group and obviously no social distancing. Two men chatting over a gate, again no distance and next door having their grandchildren over.
It's exactly what I knew would happen. Measures relax slightly and people take the piss. I know people will say it's none of my business but actually it is.
First it's everyone's business because this is the reason we can't control the virus.
Secondly I had to go to the doctors for my health but at the same time deal with idiots who just don't care about putting others at risk.
If this is happening everywhere as I suspect don't worry about shops reopening or children going back to school as the death rate will shoot up again and we'll be back in lockdown.
Would love to know why people are so selfish, stupid and want to stay in lockdown forever?

A lot of people I know have lost trust in the govt handling of this. They’ve given such muddled advice this time, not explained the rationale for allowing some things but disallowing others, and a Boris + Boffin ignored their own advice.

Oh god yes and the ridiculous slogan.

Actually the lockdown itself is extending the pandemic. Strictly obeying social distancing will NOT bring it to an end - it will extend it. The quickest way to get it over with is actually to go out and let the disease spread until everyone has had it.

Why are some people out and about and complaining about seeing others out and about?

Changeyname40 · 13/05/2020 23:41

I think we might get there with this shoddy patchwork approach but its painful to watch.

Daft question @MsHeffaPiglet

Being out and about by yourself or with others from your household is OK, being out and about with others not from your ur household isn't OK.

We aren't being stopped going out, just do it following the guidelines.

This is because the messaging changed and it’s the govs fault. They want us to turn on each other. Don’t do that hold then to account,

Yes I know how to keep me and my family safe but I worry so much about all the people breaking the rules and the people they’ll then pass it to. Some would say it’s none of my business but I’m human like that and would rather people didn’t die unnecessarily

“Unfortunately we can’t stay in lockdown forever” Eh what? Confused I’m hoping that was a typo op

I'm in Scotland and everything is just the same in the area I live. Still queuing outside shops.. Parks empty. Haven't seen many single people never mind groups.
It's actually really creepy.
I also thing lockdown is delaying the inevitable. When it ends the virus will still be here and it will spread again. Only difference will be many of us won't have jobs to stay home from.

Rosebel · 13/05/2020 23:49

I don't want to stay in lockdown but obviously if we don't all sensible judgement goes out of the window. I don't think I'm being hysterical I am asking why others are happy to put the rest of us at risk? Or perhaps I shouldn't go to the doctors and put my unborn son at risk?
Yes I suspect the government knew this would happen doesn't stop some people being selfish.

We weren’t in lockdown so it disappear never to be heard of again- it was to protect the NHS and not to overwhelm it.

As another pp pointed out, excessive lockdowns are partly prolonging the inevitable.

The vast majority of the population will be absolutely fine, so you can’t lock them away and let them lose their homes, security, ability to feed their children... we have to learn to live with it.

I don’t see why it’s your problem OP that there was a few people about. As long as you keep your distance and followed the precautions.

I’ve just read that the top statistician has said that the experts are concerned that the death rate isn’t declining as much as hoped.
Surely relaxing some measures now is just going to make things even worse.

@overworkedandstressed I think you’re spot on with your comments. People are still behaving fairly responsibly as far as I can tell (when out for daily walk or shopping) and I think the vast majority of the public have tried hard to stick to the lockdown guidelines for the past few months.

There’s no doubt, however, from media reports and chat on forums like this that some sections of the population have seen the relaxation of some of the rules in England as a green light to throw caution to the wind; some of the VE stuff was no doubt encouraged by the (deliberate?) leaks towards the end of last week that things were due to be relaxed. The govt has now loosened the lockdown in England, and I think it has done so in the full knowledge that a proportion of the people will throw caution to the wind. The govt is playing a very dangerous game with, I think, their desired outcome being some sort of herd immunity strategy. This was their gut reaction and their clearly stated approach in the early days. When they realised just how unpopular this was, they back pedalled but I think herd immunity is still bubbling away in the background. If they can persuade enough people to act irresponsibly, then herd immunity’s back on the table.

Telling people to go back to work with no sign of track and trace in sight, we’re doomed!

You do realise lots of people have been working throughout the lockdown?

I don't reckon people want that.
The people you are talking about are incapable of thinking about anyone other than themselves.

Well people on here think its an overreaction anyway it's a 0.5% deathrate only if your over 80 and have preexisting conditions so we trashed the economy for nothing and locked down because the government caved into pressure from the frightened public who know nothing

This is not me saying these things personally I've no idea where they get these figures from last I checked no one was really testing anyone so the figures are unclear it's just stuff I've seen looking st the threads today

Report
DamnYankee · 14/05/2020 00:20

The figures will go up and down for a long time to come.
@justasking111

Completely sensible reply. This is true for the US as well.

The numbers of reported cases will also go up b/c testing will be more widespread. Think "hot spots" and not "waves." Precautions will be adjusted accordingly.

Don't worry about what others are doing. What else can you do? The government - mine, yours - is not responsible for you or me. Even if we pay taxes. Hard fact.
There are going to be thoughtful people, utter as
holes, and many in between.

I'm thinking the uncertainty is just making rational people crazy...I know I would love to go there, but I really do trust my community.

Even up here in Scotland you go out and you wouldn’t know there was a lockdown. Streets and roads busy, groups of teens walking about.*

Not where I am.

wafflyversatile did you want a total lockdown with no one working?

Lasttraineast, I know throughout the lockdown 49% of the workforce were out working and not at home. I know even more need to go back to work soon but there are epidemiologists who say the R number and number of people probably infected is still too high to have taken the step our Govt did this week. It would have been better to wait a few more weeks to get the R number down

If people adhered to lock down then those infected would recover or die without infecting others. Without a host the virus dies. This semi lockdown is just passing it around.

That doesn’t resolve the problem at all. Firstly it’s impossible to lock down everyone because key workers need to continue working. Secondly even if you could theoretically lock down everyone, so people either die or recover and the virus burns out. Nobody in the UK has coronavirus. Then ONE person enters the country with the virus and infection begins to spread again. And it’s no good “closing the borders“ because that person could be an illegal immigrant. Herd immunity or a vaccine are our only options to end this.

Bartlet “ To be honest the people who want the rate to go up the most are people like you and your fellow doom “everyone’s gonna die” merchants so you can be justified in your COVID hysteria.”

Agree.
