This story has really angered and upset me.
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/may/12/uk-rail-worker-dies-coronavirus-spat-belly-mujinga

The rail company didn't even report it as a crime to the police, even though the two colleagues who were spat at reported it to their employers and asked them to.

The 'person' who spat at them should be charged with murder.

Especially as both workers got ill.

ScarfLadysBag · 12/05/2020 20:03

I heard this on the radio earlier and couldn't believe how awful it is Sad Some human beings really are disgusting.

Namechangervaver · 12/05/2020 20:05

Especially as both workers got ill.

I didn't think of that! On the news they were saying it would be very difficult to prove the incident caused the infection, but surely that adds weight to it.

There was no charge?

I saw that story earlier. Just awful.
I'm completely shocked there's been no police action. Why not? It's not too late (unless the culprit is also dead). It happened at a central London transport hub and likely to have CCTV.

I really hope these poor people in the frontline are being given better protection now. Especially given how Boris is forcing vulnerable people back to work, with many having no choice but to get there on public transport.

MoonBaby1 · 12/05/2020 20:09

Terrible. Poor woman and her poor family RIP

Yankathebear · 12/05/2020 20:12

We get it all of the time in mh wards. No one does a thing. You are tested and back to work.

Madhairday · 12/05/2020 20:13

That's so utterly tragic and so vile of that man. That poor family :(

Yankathebear · 12/05/2020 20:15

Oops didn’t mean to press post. Obviously not covid 19 each time but hep c etc.
Nothing is ever done.

Oblomov20 · 12/05/2020 20:23

Christ almighty. What a mess!

The employers did nothing at the time so probably too late for CCTV Angry

Was happy to see in the news today that they DO have CCTV of the guy and the police are pursuing it. I really hope they get the scumbag.
Not sure if they can prove he definitely have her the virus himself, but I wonder if it does amount to GBH with intent or manslaughter of some kind.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 14/05/2020 08:47

Surely there is CCTV? I watched the interview with her family. Heartbreaking.

MRex · 14/05/2020 08:47

I was just saying to DH how upsetting that is. We were saying that if we were on a jury with that man on trial we'd support a murder charge. It's a deliberate aggravated assault that's led to a death, in circumstances where it's known there's a significant risk of death. The police need to get onto this, surely Victoria station have saved CCTV? And the TFL manager should be disciplined for not involving the police to start with.

Her poor family, it's terrible for anyone facing a loss but when it's due to violence that's even more awful.

MRex · 14/05/2020 08:48

Has anyone seen the CCTV put out for public identification yet? I'd like to share it with anyone who might help find him.

Namechangervaver · 14/05/2020 22:18

No, I've not seen it

There's a GoFundMe page that's passed its target to help with funeral costs. The rest of the money is going to help her little girl here

It’s just disgusting that someone could get away with that. The poor women. So upsetting to hear about. Police and A&E staff have to put up with that type of behaviour all the time. It should be clamped down on hard and fast.

KrakowDawn · 15/05/2020 00:18

I read about this case earlier. That poor lady, and her poor family, it's abhorrent someone would behave that way.
I hope they try him for one case of murder and one of attempted murder (her colleague also contracted vivid). People that are HIV+ that knowingly infect others are prosecuted.

It won't bring her back though.

Keepdistance · 15/05/2020 00:23

Tbh if they knew they had it they should be locked up anyway for not self isolating...
Obviously as well as this horrific behaviour.
There seem to be a lot of people mentally affe ted by covid though.

HopeClearwater · 15/05/2020 00:23

We were saying that if we were on a jury with that man on trial we'd support a murder charge

Not if the judge directed you not to.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 15/05/2020 00:26

Worst that'll happen if he's caught is an assault charge. There's absolutely no way any sort of murder, attempted murder, or manslaughter charge would get off the ground. She and her colleague could have caught Covid from literally any one of the thousands of people they must come into contact with every single day of the week. No way to prove which individual was the source of infection.

CuppaZa · 15/05/2020 00:31

This is hands down one of the worst stories I’ve read since the beginning of all this. It’s shocked me to the core and absolutely disgusted me. Human beings can be utterly vile. It is so so sad.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 15/05/2020 00:35

I’m surprised this wasn’t investigated, I’m going to assume that race was a factor unfortunately. I mean it would be BTP who would have investigated and they aren’t as busy as regional forces, and they have a stricter stance on crimes against railway staff - they are the transport police after all so they should have taken this seriously.

themental · 15/05/2020 01:17

Heartbreaking story.

This has happened to my dp twice now since lockdown began (he's a police officer).

I honestly think this needs written into the laws. It maybe couldn't be murder or manslaughter or whatever, but there should be some sort of charge like "malicious infection" and it should cover spitting, stabbing with dirty needles, raping with HIV etc. And it should carry a jail sentence.

Awful people who do this.
