Where to purchase antibody testing?

I know there have a been a few threads about people having bought the testing kits, I’m just wondering where you bought them from so I can do one?

Happy to be messaged if people aren’t comfortable.

I know they are not accurate completely, and I understand the statistics. We will repeat it once a month and comply with all NHS testing etc. For our current situation the cost is worth it. We bought ones from the private barely street guy but they didn’t turn up, twice and we were refunded.

I imagine that virtually no tests for anything have 100% sensitivity and specificity (certainly the NHS antigen swab test does not). It’s a question of what error rate we are comfortable with. Personally I’m planning to take several different antibody tests and if they all give the same result, I will trust it.

onlinelinda · 12/05/2020 07:59

Did they give that data on their site, @Egghead68 ?

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 12/05/2020 08:10

The Abbott test sounds legitimate. But does anyone know a legitimate place to buy it from?

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 12/05/2020 08:33

Ok I just bought it from blue horizon

Gronky · 12/05/2020 10:08

The Abbott test sounds legitimate

If it's an antibody based one, the question won't be primarily whether the underlying methodology is sound, it will be whether the target antigen (the molecule presented in the test to look for antibodies) is specific and reactive enough to reliably give a positive result when the antibodies are present and also not react to other irrelevant antibodies.

In other terms, it would be like Abbott being an established lock maker but the testing ensuring that their locks always open with the right key and never open with the wrong one.

@Egghead68 I think I will be the same and maybe once a month try out a different company test.

@DuchessMinnie yes that is reassuring in some ways that your hygiene and protection has been good.

One problem I am having at the moment is that test samples can be posted only in special priority postboxes which, round here, as far I can tell are within post-offices. Unfortunately those post-offices are shut for the next two weeks. I don’t know if this is a nationwide problem.

Egghead68 · 12/05/2020 17:13

Ok I have located both a priority post box (I think) plus a volunteer who can take my sample there (I am shielding) next Thursday (assuming I can get enough blood into the vial).

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 18/05/2020 15:50

Any updates?

cathyandclare · 18/05/2020 15:58

I got the Abbott test from Treated. £49. It has arrived ( 72 hours) and I'm going to do it and post it tomorrow morning.

Egghead68 · 18/05/2020 16:16

£49 is great - I paid £99.

All being well I’ll send mine off this Thursday (when a volunteer can collect it). Loads of people with my symptoms (I.e. no fever but prolonged and relapsing/remitting everything else) seem to test negative though. Seems a bit ridiculous to think there might be two similar viruses having a pandemic at once.

Egghead68 · 18/05/2020 16:16

P.s. Babylon health are doing tests for £69

CherryStoneTree · 18/05/2020 17:27

Anyone know of anyone still doing the old style cassette type ones that you read like a pregnancy test? I know they are lessaccurate but it’s to send to a friend abroad

The Private Harley Street Clinic guy is a dodgy doctor operating from his own flat in North London nowhere near Harley St...

ChippityDoDa · 18/05/2020 17:52

I ordered my Babylon one today. £69. Looks legitimate and seems to have good results in terms of accuracy. Very easy to order via the App, I’ll let you know when it turns up!

Hoggleludo · 18/05/2020 17:54

I've used blue horizon for other tests. They are fabulous

Egghead68 · 18/05/2020 20:21

Babylon are a very legitimate company. I have used them for years.

CherryStoneTree · 18/05/2020 21:29

Yup, probate Harley street failed to send it to me twice and another family member hasn’t got a refund yet.

I used privatecoronatests.com.

It is an Abbott test that they do.

It cost me £99.

Ordered Sunday. Dispatched Tuesday. Arrived Wednesday in the post at 3pm (normal time for our post).

Did the test straight away. Took ten mins to squeeze enough out and about half an hour start to finish.

Put it in a priority post box as instructed....there are six within a five min drive of me. So I posted it on Wednesday and it caught the 530 pm last post.

Results emailed to me Friday.

Egghead68 · 19/05/2020 19:55

@ohnoquickhide can I ask a stupid question? Did the priority post box look like a normal post box or was it labelled? The one I’m going to use looks normal but the Royal Mail app said it is a priority one.

Egghead68 · 19/05/2020 19:59

Has anyone actually had a positive Abbott test? I would swear blind I have had Covid-19 (it’s like nothing I’ve ever had before) and it’s 60 days since my first symptom (a raging sore throat and headache -many other symptoms came and went and came back again) but I bet the Abbot test will come back negative.

ohnoquickhide · 19/05/2020 20:09

@Egghead68 they look normal, they tend to be outside post offices I think but there are also ones aren't.

Egghead68 · 19/05/2020 20:33

Thank you!
