Bye red, hello green.

Stay alert > control the virus > save lives

I’m interested to know how we stay alert to an invisible virus, not exactly clear really. Lots of interpretations there!

Wtf

Meaningless shite

No fucker can “control the virus”

bellinisurge · 09/05/2020 22:59

Here's one: Don't be a Stupid Twat.

mollypuss1 · 09/05/2020 23:06

Ooooh a new slogan, how many they at now?

“take back control”
“get Brexit done”
“oven-ready”
“Stay home, save lives”
“Roadmap”

Faircastle · 09/05/2020 23:08

The word "alert" could be to fit in with defcon type levels.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 09/05/2020 23:11

Stay close to home, control your spending, save all your kisses for me

Itisasecret · 09/05/2020 23:25

I’m disappointed they kept the yellow and removed the red for green. I was hoping for a more teal colour.

OP posts:
Bagelsandbrie · 09/05/2020 23:29

What a joke. We can’t control the virus. No one can. We can only adapt and change our way of life until we learn more about it.

Faircastle · 09/05/2020 23:33

I was hoping for a more teal colour

We're not there yet, be patient.

Five levels: red, orange, yellow, green... teal.

Disclaimer: I made that up.

LangClegsInSpace · 09/05/2020 23:40

Well, I was expecting Go Back To Work >> Buy Shit >> Protect The Economy so I'm pleasantly surprised.

Staying alert and controlling the virus would be entirely possible if the government committed to a properly integrated test, isolate, trace and quarantine public health strategy but they haven't. It's all just pick n mix and populism.

Red means stop and green means go. The government actually thinks we are that stupid.

mollypuss1 · 09/05/2020 23:42

Yes, the government do think we are that stupid and sadly many are, if they weren’t then The Daily Mail would have gone out of business a long time ago.

Itisasecret · 09/05/2020 23:51

Yes, it really is the dumbing down of the nation. Word salad with pretty colour changes.

OP posts:
Methtones · 09/05/2020 23:53

Utterly ridiculous

FliesandPies · 09/05/2020 23:56

Your Country Needs Lerts!

WatcherintheRye · 10/05/2020 00:01

Well, with the level of intellectual rigour and clarity of guidance evident in the government's handling of the pandemic so far, I can't help feeling we're heading for a second spike.

grumpyorange · 10/05/2020 00:09

Ohhh where have you seen this. I can't find it

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 00:18

It's ok im sure they'll produce something with pictures so you can all understand

CrunchyCarrot · 10/05/2020 00:27

Here it is:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52602635

It is understood the system - with alerts ranging from green (level one) to red (level five) - will be similar to the one used to keep the public informed about the terror threat level.

Mr Johnson is expected to say England is currently at stage four but moving towards stage three.

The warning tool - to be administered by a new "joint biosecurity centre" - will also reflect the virus threat in different parts of the country, meaning the threat level in one city could differ quite widely from another.

So we are somewhere less red than red... orange? and heading towards yellow, maybe! Grin

PhilCornwall1 · 10/05/2020 05:59

Oh is there another pointless slogan?

Oh joy of fucking joys, we've got to listen to Boris and Co. bang out another "catchy" load of tripe every 5 seconds.

Someone mentioned dumbing down, I think it's for their benefit. Hardly the most dynamic bunch are they?

catnidge · 10/05/2020 06:09

The government didn't do the best job of 'staying alert' whilst the rest of Europe went into lock down, nor did they take any notice of the WHO, 'test, test, test'! Yet, I'm sure they'll blame the public for not following the rules properly when the next peak comes!

SophieB100 · 10/05/2020 06:14

BoJo says we must be careful coming down from the peak, we mustn't stumble and trip and rush ahead. It's easier climbing the mountain, than descending the other side apparently:

Connie222 · 10/05/2020 08:12

I honestly despair.

What a shit show this has been and it’s only going to get worse. Some People can’t wait to rush out anyway, give them and inch etc etc. My sister in law is already planning a huge ‘celebration’ party for next weekend as it coincides with her grandmas 95th birthday (!) and is huffy that I’ve told her to get lost. All Dh family are getting together. I’ve told him if he goes he can stay there until way after our baby is born in August. Thankfully he’s not a dumb arse like the rest of his family.

I’ll let them all get on with it.

Itisasecret · 10/05/2020 08:34

Yes, it’s a taking a bit of a bashing on Twitter that’s for sure.

OP posts:
Babdoc · 10/05/2020 08:41

I’m no fan of simple minded slogans, but I think you need to bear in mind that the average IQ in Britain is only a little over 100. So half the population are at that or lower.
Most MN users are at the brighter end of the curve - the government has to reach people with much more limited intellect. For example, the Sun newspaper only requires a reading age of 8 - it is aiming at a tabloid audience.

Connie222 · 10/05/2020 09:55

@Babdoc is actually quite scary when you see it in those terms.

Chillipeanuts · 10/05/2020 09:58

Scary, but sadly true.
