penguins so we can go for walks as many times as we want per Government instruction, but he can't possibly walk home from school?

Gnome can you apply for overtime? What would happen if you said no to the special requests? They can't expect you to do massive amounts of extra work with no help, support or remuneration. Well done for not shouting though. You're a much better person than I am.

@GnomeDePlume I used to work at Walmart HRSS. We processed all the pay, sick recording, training etc for asda. All the process, technical side. They then have HR which is for the fluffier side.

I wouldn't hold my breath either, unfortunately. The large scale fuck ups, there (and the speed they fix stuff) are ridiculous.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/06/2020 07:50

Its just nice that people are even interested.

It's actually quite a statement to your value as a worker , especially at a time like this when there will be so many others looking for jobs. Are you actually looking to change jobs?

OP posts:
Trevsadick · 05/06/2020 08:08

I am not actively looking. I do keep getting approached.

I would definitely leave for the right job. But I dont hate my job, at the moment, that much I would leave for the first offer that comes along.

Its weird because up until 2 years ago I have never been approached for a role. My current employer, pursued me for a year. But it wasn't the right role.

But in the last 2 years, I have people approaching me.

I cant see me being with this employer long term, though either. My boss is a dick. But I really want to see us through this crisis time. Not for him, but for all my colleagues who are impacted.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/06/2020 08:23

Definitely a good sign being head hunted. Even if you're not looking you know you have options, and even better that you are desirable.

Yeah its a good position to be in. All networking opportunities at the very least.

But damn......wtf is ed miliband doing TV this morning? Dont really hear anything about him anymore.

GnomeDePlume · 05/06/2020 08:47

Princess sadly overtime not paid, I am just expected to keep going until work is done.

Also if I said 'no' to the additional requests this would be viewed as very unreasonable and I would end up being carpeted for it.

I have now been working for nearly 2 hours and still havent been able to start on the work on the thing I started work early to do because I am now getting a pile of 'could you just...' questions from my boss and my boss' boss.

I started early so that I could get to enjoy my Friday evening. Fat chance of that right now. I could cry angry tears of frustration.

Trevsadick · 05/06/2020 09:01

Ah that's really shit Gnome.

I really think so many employers/managers don't give a shit.

They are forgetting (or ignoring) that devent staff won't stick around. This is the time to show employees how much you give a shit and support them. Now is a great chance to show employees how good you can be.

Good employers will come out of this with very loyal staff.

CrowCat · 05/06/2020 09:07

Morning all! Gnome that's just bollocks love, what a shite ending to the week.

Kids can't walk on pavements? Wait, is this new? Am I not allowed to take DD to the shop with me now? I don't drive and we avoid public transport. How are we supposed to get to morrisons? Just appear there?

Willow2017 · 05/06/2020 10:50

Morning all.
Had my exercise for the day already. Took car to garage to get brakes done and walked back. Sunny but windy and showery here luckily just the sunny bit on way home😄

Well we walked on the pavement to town and round town (via Subway 😁) and walked home on the pavement too. No one arrested us so I think we got away with it 😂

Willow2017 · 05/06/2020 15:18

Crow phew lucky you. Living on the edge or what?

We will be slaughtering thousands later as local MCDs opened yesterday. Told ds2 today and he rushed to get our shoes in his typical mad way..should have seen his face when i said there was no car🤣🤣🤣 Hopefully queues wont be as bad later today but i will have to suck it up i guess for a lukewarm chicken whatsit and half cold fries. But despite the fact we wont leave the car i am sure its akin to muuuurderrr.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/06/2020 15:24

Portals are the answer!!

That is so shit Gnome , maybe it's time to look for a different job?

CrowCat · 05/06/2020 18:20

Willow our mcds drive thru opened and I'm considering pretending to be a car so I can get a Big Mac. Do the brrm brrm sounds and turn my pretend steering wheel as we walk through the drive thru 😂

Not sure they'd fall for it 🤨

Willow2017 · 05/06/2020 18:26

Crow there was a video of someone who just walked through to get his...go for it.

We on the other hand are McDsless! My mechanic is still waiting for a part for brakes so wont get car till tomorrow morning. Oh well can get Mcds after work tomorrow. Fish tonight instead😀

CrowCat · 05/06/2020 19:15

Right I'm doing that tomorrow! DD2 will be overjoyed!

Trevsadick · 05/06/2020 19:23

Ohhh McDonald's tomorrow for me.

Finished work for a whole week! Well 9 days!

Time to open the rum!!

Might have to work on teleportation tomorrow! 🤷‍♀️

GnomeDePlume · 05/06/2020 22:47

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Really did help. While I like WFH it can be isolating.

Well, I finally managed to get about 3 hours on the task I was hoping to start at 7am and finish today. Unfortunately didnt finish but it has to be finished by Monday morning so I guess I know what I will be doing on Sunday. Thankfully DH works on Sunday mornings so I will be able to get an early start and hope to be finished around the time he finishes.

The current situation has shown up some very poor senior management attitudes. I work in a very 'treat them mean' industry. It is also strongly unionised in the operation which means that there is someone to have their back if the company oversteps. The same attitude creeps into treatment of support functions such as IT & finance but without the union protection.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/06/2020 09:30

Morning all.

Gnome tbh what you describe is beyond "treat them mean" and into "flogging a dead horse" territory. It is unsustainable and damaging for you(and others in your position) and it's very worrying that they can't see that.

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 06/06/2020 10:33

I think that for the most senior management WFH has been translated into Well, you're home so you should be working. As though WFH is some sort of luxury which has to be 'paid' for.

Out of sight is out of mind. If we can't see that there are problems (because you aren't physically in the office) then there aren't problems.

The furloughing has saved the company a few thousand but at what cost to the people who had to cover their work. The volume of work didn't reduce. In fact in my area it went up.

One good thing has come out of this, all being well, I am getting my assistant back in a couple of weeks. So that's good.

Trevsadick · 06/06/2020 10:48

I am glad it looks like you are getting your assistant back.

Things improved for me a lot ehen I had someone in my team back. Wfh, with no team support was incredibly isolating.

I know what you mean like they expect you to pay for being at home. Like they expect you to be available for work, at all times.

And it will come at a huge cost. Luckily my boss isn't as much of a dick as yours and did recognise the impact to a certain degree. Hence the free reign with my annual leave.

GnomeDePlume · 06/06/2020 12:10

Sorting out holiday is going to be a problem. The people on furlough are still owed their holiday. The people who have continued working are knackered and need holiday. We are just about to go into a period when we aren't allowed to take holiday.

Senior management will then look bemused that we didn't take holiday while WFH! ('Cos every time anyone booked holiday they would be asked to rearrange it for another time, Dimwit!)

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/06/2020 12:33

Finger crossed for your assistant being back and your workload decreasing Gnome.
