Disgusted at VE celebrations

runrunrunrunt · 09/05/2020 08:54

I absolutely cannot believe what went on last night in this country.

The government should never have encouraged this nonsense and instead should have firmly nipped the idea of celebration completely in the bud.

Absent Boris should have never implied lockdown will be eased on Monday a couple of days before a fucking sunny VE Day bank holiday when we still have 5,000 plus new cases every day.

It isn't rocket science.

I am absolutely appalled.

My village all abided by the rules and had a great time. Not sure what's disgusting about it.

Rainbunny · 09/05/2020 09:45

I don't think it's a herd immunity by stealth motivation. I think it's a clear desperation to get the economy going again, consequences be damned.

The reality is that older people will get hit hardest and then people with underlying health conditions. People that the government do not view as important for the government's vision of glorious future brexit Britain. ''Herd immunity is really code for ''cull the weak.''

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 09/05/2020 09:45

Also I don't know if it's because of lockdown but I don't find VE day very jolly every time I had the TV on I kept crying, I kept thinking of all the lives lost, those permanently traumatised and injured. The number of families broken, the stress and anxiety the nation must have felt. It's just so overwhelmingly sad I had to turn it off after a while. I lit a candle and thought about the sacrifice I wasn't in the mood to celebrate.

ginsparkles · 09/05/2020 09:45

@SusieOwl4 I agree !

SusieOwl4 · 09/05/2020 09:45

@runrunrunrunt

Then you must blame corbyn for being the ineffective opposition leader he was , otherwise you would have labour in , and of course everything would be hunky dory . The virus would be eliminated by now.

Widowodiw · 09/05/2020 09:45

I think the whole street party thing was planned. Let them think they have had a party before we announce on Sunday lockdown for Another three weeks and not a lot is changing.
For most it was an excuse to go out and socialise without coronavirus a lot of those wouldn’t have even bothered with the VE Day celebrations. The day itself isn’t nonsense and should be remembered but we have a current crisis we need to deal with and I don’t want easing down to be scuppered by having a party with your neighbours.

TabbyMumz · 09/05/2020 09:45

So....there are a lot of idiots who forgot the rules, and it's all Boris's fault,?

runrunrunrunt · 09/05/2020 09:46

Oh @Tabby 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Cheltenham
Madrid game
Not locked down soon enough
Flights into country
Telling people he was still shaking hands
Telling people we mig just take it on the chin
Avoiding daily briefings whenever possible
Mixed messages - maybe ease lockdown maybe not
Not releasing the scientific advice
No ppe
Wrong ppe
Gaslighting doctors and nurses ...

What the actual suffering fuck does Corbyn have to do with anything?

@BirdieFriendReturns I really don't think perspective is what they are looking for on this thread!

BovaryX · 09/05/2020 09:46

Not sure what you're getting at

@runrunrunrunt

I am calling your statement that Boris should step down ludicrous. Because it is ludicrous. He just got an 80 seat majority. You don't like him? Tough luck. Why can't you answer the question?.How long do you want lockdown to continue? Three months? Three years? Do you think that people will agree to house arrest indefinitely? If so, you are deluded. How long?

tootyfruitypickle · 09/05/2020 09:47

The lockdown can’t be properly lifted until there is a vaccine. The point of highest risk will be when it’s eased slightly. Not VE Day. Going out to see friends ( social distancing) will be far more risky then, but I’m sure you’ll do before a vaccine is created.

I agree that drinking and congaing is madness .There was only tea and cake at ours and 1,000s of others.

runrunrunrunt · 09/05/2020 09:47

So I've to blame the ex leader of the opposition because the current leader of the government is shit?

What school of politics did you go to? The twisted Tory bastard school of delusion and bitterness?

OP posts:
Nousernameforme · 09/05/2020 09:47

Ah well maybe the inheritance tax boom that we are going to see in 6 months or so will boost the economy a bit.

Tbf I saw one lot here and they kept to themselves. People have been pretty good at social distancing unless they get inside a supermarket then all bets are off.

That said those who only have seen photos of people strictly 2 m apart. Do you really think they are going to post the photos of no.31 getting pissed and snogging no.54

BeachAndMojito · 09/05/2020 09:47

I have no problem with a small household in their front garden having cake and waving at their neighbours. Others have just used it as an excuse to get pissed and socialise, pretending they're celebrating VE Day.

I know transmission rates outdoors are reduced but even so people have gone from crossing the road to avoid people to chatting and mingling all because a street party is allowed.

It shows exactly why rules have been so strict in recent weeks as people will just do what they like unless they're treated like children with a list of exact instructions.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 09/05/2020 09:48

Hmmm, monkeytoesofdoom, we’d have actual food shortages and hunger if the ports and distribution networks weren’t open, not just a few empty shelves at the supermarkets. How would that help? My DH works in shipping and the percentage of food they import, including tinned tomatoes, pasta, other tinned and dried stuff, has gone up enormously during this crisis. He is still commuting, no other option, personally I’m extremely thankful this continues, i think you need to be a bit less extreme in your posts, what you’ve suggested is not remotely logical.

ssd · 09/05/2020 09:49

I'm in Scotland and don't think there were as many VE day street parties here. I think there will be a spike in England in a few weeks due to this.
And the person above who wrote the government don't care about the elderly in care homes who lived through the war, they are being left to die.

TabbyMumz · 09/05/2020 09:49

"And I'm not suggesting the government should just fucking fold and roll over. I'm saying he's not the figurehead required."

Yes he is. He was voted in and hes doing great.

SusieOwl4 · 09/05/2020 09:50

@Rainbunny

How do you know that the most vunerable are not still going to be protected or shielded in the plan going forward ? It’s not the government that’s ageist it’s the virus .

The fact is that that there are several medical conditions and age that make the virus ( in its various mutations ) a lot more deadly .

Say you were 30 and have one of these conditions would you not rather know and stay sheilded for now ?

Hopefully there will be antibody tests and eventually a vaccine and or more medical treatments proved to help ?

ssd · 09/05/2020 09:50

Sorry posted too soon, ^^that poster is spot on.

BovaryX · 09/05/2020 09:50

The twisted Tory bastard school of delusion and bitterness?

That didn't take long, did it? @runrunrunrunt. Your a partisan tribalist, ranting into the ether. And you still can't answer the question. How long should lockdown continue?

runrunrunrunt · 09/05/2020 09:50

I will say it again Bovary nice and slowly so you can follow:

He is not an effective leader.
He has created a circumstance where we have exceptionally high death rates and poor management of the situation.
He should step down because he is not up to it.
A Tory government should continue because quite rightly that is what was voted for.
Lockdown should be eased very slowly following one of the very sensible plans of one of the other European countries when our daily cases are not still in the 1000s and daily deaths not still in the hundreds.

Ok?

OP posts:
AgileLass · 09/05/2020 09:50

Yes he is. He was voted in and hes doing great.

By what possible measure is he “doing great”? Serious question.

MarieQueenofScots · 09/05/2020 09:51

He was voted in and hes doing great

Oh come on. The first is absolute fact, the latter is a joke surely.

ssd · 09/05/2020 09:51

@runrunrunrunt

God love you to be so deluded.

runrunrunrunt · 09/05/2020 09:52

He's doing great????

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
