Sorry if this thread has been down before but just wondering what people think the changes will be on Sunday?

OP posts:
myangelalex · 09/05/2020 14:20

No idea. It can't be worse than it is. (Depressed) ☹️

Hugglespuffed · 09/05/2020 14:41

I was under the impression that that is what tomorrow is about @imsooverthisdrama isn't he laying out a plan? Nothing should change Monday really in my opinion, 1 or 2 subtle things yes..but we NEED a much clearer plan for what is to come. People need to know whether wedding will happen in July so they can plan.

SophieB100 · 09/05/2020 15:46

But he can't set out a plan tomorrow to say that weddings will go ahead in July. Why? Because he can't predict what the public will do between then and now. He can say that this is how things will plan out and it what order they will release restrictions, but timing is down to the public. This weekend, far more traffic on the roads, our local beaches are busy, lots of family visiting nearby gardens. So, if people do ignore the rules, the road map will be pushed back further and further.
People need to realise this - they can't win against this virus. They need to adhere to the lockdown or the R number increases. The R number increases, Boris will slam the breaks on the lockdown and won't lift further restrictions until the R number is under control again. That's why it will be gradual, over a good few months, and dates can't be given, because the public's behaviour determines it.

Hugglespuffed · 09/05/2020 16:51

Of course things could get locked. But it is useful to know the absolute minimum date that things will open..Ireland have, why can't we?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 09/05/2020 17:30

*Do you realise that lots of people can only afford cheap clothes that will only last for one summer. They can afford lots of clothes so wear the few same things, meaning they need replacing more often.

I do, and although I am fortunate not to be in that position myself, I do tend to mostly wear the same small selection of non-expensive t-shirts (costing around £4 - £8) and trousers/shorts (£8 - £12) during the summer and none have worn out after one summer. I also wear the t-shirts all year round under a jumper. If by cheap clothes you are talking about £2 items, then I can understand that they might wear out after one summer, and that there will therefore be people who do need to buy new clothes. However, it certainly won't be the case that everyone needs to buy new clothes.

hopeishere · 09/05/2020 18:19

I think they've fucked this up. Lots of inaccurate briefing to the papers which they've had to massively backtrack on now.

WhiteChocTwix · 09/05/2020 18:23

I think the WFH if possible will remain, and possibly be legally enforced in some way after today's briefing. Only enough capacity for 1 in 10 safe public transport journey is a stark statistic. Boris is going to have to tighten up on employers who don't like WFH to avoid them making employees take unsafe and unecessary journeys.

TartanTexan · 09/05/2020 18:27

No dates apparently tomorrow...on anything...

SmileEachDay · 09/05/2020 18:33

According to who, Tartan?

joystir59 · 09/05/2020 18:40

Banning cyclists on footpaths and pavements. Banning jogging. Can't stand the entitled attitude of both groups who think we mere pedestrians should always make room for them while they zoom past, joggers breathing great deep panting gusts of Virus all over everyone

TartanTexan · 09/05/2020 18:58

News following Press Conference.

IWannaBreakFREE20 · 09/05/2020 19:01

Our recycling centre is already opening Monday was advertised a week ago.
I'm. Hoping for 2 out of household but not expecting it.

SophieB100 · 09/05/2020 19:06

Don't think they've fucked up, think the press have. They printed misinformation about lockdown being lifted Monday etc.

Boris will tell us:
Nothing has really changed at all. We still have to stay at home when we can. We still have to stay 2 metres apart from everyone outside our homes.

We can go out for more exercise. We might be able to queue at the garden centre, if we're bored to tears with queuing at Tesco, Homebase or B & Q.

Schools will possibly open before the end of June, but it will only be primary and very limited.

In two weeks time, they might open a few libraries, other shops.

We will be encouraged to work from home for the rest of the year if at all possible, and if we can't he'll lay out the criteria which businesses have to provide. We will be encouraged to walk, cycle, to work where necessary.

They will put the breaks on any lifted restrictions if the R number goes above 1, and might even go back to full lockdown.

Hugglespuffed · 09/05/2020 19:12

@joystir59 I find pedestrians can be just as entitled actually. Don't tar all joggers the same thank you. As for cyclists, they shouldn't be on the pavements anyway. Banning joggins is a ridiculous suggestion.

joystir59 · 09/05/2020 19:16

I'm going to start tripping them up. Considerate joggers are a rarity. Snorting panting fuckers Grin

joystir59 · 09/05/2020 19:18

Coronarunners= pavement joggers who only jog during a pandemic

SophieB100 · 09/05/2020 19:30

The joggers I encounter are fine, they usually wave when I cross the road, or give the thumbs up. Or they see me and cross ahead, no problem at all. But I usually go to the shops very early morning, and it's the usual joggers I've always seen anyway.
Anyway, Boris is going to magically make the paths wider, with cycle lanes everywhere, and huge long buses that only take 10 people to work at a time.
And we can all buy an electric scooter at a discount.

Lovely.

raviolidreaming · 09/05/2020 19:42

Everything we can already do but think we can't do, so that there'll be no change to legislation required ... Gather in 2s for exercise with someone not from our household

But you can't do that now, can you? You shouldn't be mixing households?!

AuntieStella · 09/05/2020 19:45

I'm a bit wary about an initiative which promotes both walking and cycling.

Because the biggest buggeration for the pedestrian is the cyclist on the pavement

Hugglespuffed · 09/05/2020 19:45

A jogger has every right to be on a pavement as a Walker.. most ones I encounter move in to the road or cross, but I also sometimes cross as it is fair game for us both.
And there is nothing wrong with people taking up jogging during coronavirus for multiple health reasons and mental health..

PeskyRooks · 09/05/2020 19:45

Garden centres are going to be opened so we can all start growing our own fruit and veg ready for later on in the year when we can't afford to buy food.

cauliflowersqueeze · 09/05/2020 19:54

Well nothing really has changed. So why would the advice change? The virus is still out there killing people, it’s just that it has been thus far contained/suppressed enough to mean that there is good capacity in ICUs to manage the dying people.

KaptenKrusty · 09/05/2020 20:00

The gyms are closed @joystir59 so obviously there will be more joggers and cyclists out to get exercise ffs

WhiteChocTwix · 09/05/2020 20:28

@joystir59

I'm going to start tripping them up. Considerate joggers are a rarity. Snorting panting fuckers

😂 Brilliant!

PeppaisaBitch · 09/05/2020 20:30

I always wear my 10k/half tops now so people know I was running before lockdown.
