Wales schools not opening June 1st

The same will happen in England, their education systems are similar, it’s easier to transfer from one to the next, same holidays etc. Plus lots of staff and especially those in schools, work across the borders because they are similar. It’s just their government don’t want another weekend of education staff and parents feeding off the false rumours in social media and the news. Boris doesn’t care, it’s all deflection from him.

I can't imagine England schools would be open and Wales closed?
Wales announced school closures a day earlier than England when schools were closed so fingers crossed England will follow suit

Agree, well done Wales, correct decision. Hopefully England follows suite! Although I’m sure there will soon be an influx of posts saying something along the lines of ‘don’t be ridiculous, that’ll never happen in England, they’ll be back June 1st at the latest. They just will be.’

What are people celebrating schools staying shut is going to happen to workers? Are they assuming people will still get furlough because of it.

Will they be quite so happy when furlough stops and schools not open? Will they be punching the air and saying good when they have to take unpaid leave to care for their kids? When they loose their jobs because they can’t go in?

I know people keep saying wha t differnce sept is?
But the difference may be a higher % of people have had it. We may be at say 30% by sept. Which in itself would slow spread.
We might have started giving people vit d injection or tablets or people got enough sun over the summer
There might be antivirals
They might have collected more plasma
We might have hd antibody tests so say could have classes where everyone has had it or not or a mix.
We might know whether kids do spread it.
Might have enough masks for everyone.

@Bluntness100 furlough is carrying on through June, after that it may go down to 60% but July would have been near enough summer holidays anyway and hopefully by then there would be some ease on family and friends visiting which will help with getting babysittings over whether it's hiring someone to be babysit or friends and family babysitting

Hopefully by September we understand the virus more and if we understand it more by september hopefully people can be reassured it's safe to go back since a lot of people wouldn't have sent their children in June even if schools opened

Op, the fact government furlough may continue is irrelevant.

If a company goes back to work, and employees can’t attend they aren’t going to say, oh that’s ok, you stay furloughed.

They are going to say come to work or terminate your contract. No one can seriously think companies are going to say, hey, that’s ok, none of you have to come to work, you can stay furloughed, once they fully reopen, most from next week?

It’s not the government who will end the furlough.

It’s employers. They are going to do it and they are going to do it the moment they need the staff in.

I’m not reading too much into it, the article I read stated schools would need at least 3 weeks to get back up and running. Just because it’s not June 1st doesn’t mean it’s not June 8th!

Furlough is not a right. It is an employers decision. Most other than hospitality will not stay shut till July.

They will be opening again in the next few days. They will expect furloughed staff to come to work. They will stop furlough if the employee cannot come in and they need them, because they will have to replace them.

They might do the employee a favour and keep it going then lay them off, but this is simply not the case if the government keeps furlough open to the end of June employees are entitled to it. It’s a case of the employer makes rhe decision.

And as women are usually the ones impacted by child care, I’m appalled at rhe amount of women who will lose their jobs, because they have child care needs and other women celebrating and punching the air because schools are closed and so many other women will be fucked by it.

Only if the employer does not reopen. Any company who reopens will expect their staff back and will stop furlough. They will not say, oh dear you can’t work for child care needs. I won’t open until you’re available.

And if they say, that’s ok, we don’t need you anyway and can Cover your work. Then you’re also out

There is no good news here. Furlough is an employers decision. It is claimed by the employer when the business is closed or only running on a skeleton.

Schools closing till July and companies opening in the next few days and closing furlough for their employees when they do is a disaster for many. It’s two months of not being able to do your job for any employee expected to go in, from non essential shops, offices, factories, garden Centers.the lot. These companies cannot furlough employees and hire new ones.

Either the staff come back or they get laid off. And if schools are shut and no child care then plenty of people, many of them women, are about to loose their jobs.

So that would not be solving the issue for most as about 2% in already...
And re childcare. The classes likely to need education most are the gcse/alevel and they dont need childcare so not leaving a lot of % for the younger childcare anyway.

I would think the summer childcare must be allowed to open though even if it's to smaller numbers although some might be sport based...

Again this is an employers decision not thr employees and secondly many people can’t afford to take unpaid leave.

I would hope the family and friends restriction will be eased to help working parents,
But @Bluntness100 it just doesnt seem fair on the children to open schools now when there's only a few weeks left. By the time they settle, they are off again,
Especially when so little is known about the virus at this moment in time,
For some lucky people, the furlough will continue, for others i hope the government ease the friend and family restriction so they can get some form of childcare from there or through a paid babysitter

I see it as only beneficial to let kids back in school six months off is so damaging. But it’s irrelevant

Right now people have no child care options.

Right now companies are about to re open.

Right now companies will stop furlough when they do reopen and expect staff back in. They need the staff so they can operate. Otherwise why employ them.

As such, no child care for any working parent with a primary age kid means they are either moving to unpaid leave or being laid off.

It’s a disaster. Have some empathy for the people about to have their lives very very damaged by this. And that includes the children whose parents can’t afford to pay their bills any more.

They haven’t got a grip on this crisis because of their sloppy and lazy handling in WM. They said today they think the R has gone up. They won’t be opening schools and it would be crazy to think they would. What they should have done, was get a grip of this in February when all the ski trips were returning from Italy and back into school. They didn’t and now everyone will pay. Opening schools with our statistics is a pipe dream drip fed falsely by the press.

@Bluntness100 i have sympathy for everyone in this situation,
I, myself, am furloughed but I do not see the benefit of sending children back right now unless the government want them to be guinea pigs to see if the infection rates go up again.
I think the best way to help working parents, like i said, is to allow babysitters or family and friends to help with childcare

No you can reqest parental leave i think its 17w per child.
Bear in mind the numbers are small.
Many people pt.
Many 2 parent households.
Some furloughed till when pubs etc open.
Lots should still wfh.
The gov dont want workplaces forcing people to stop wfh.
However i think they will still open england schools as email today about afterschool clubs ..

The main aim should be getting clothes shops etc open. Garden centres if not already. Things like argos.
I expectbwho is a key worker to be expanded.

The emails mean nothing, schools are planning in case Boris drops a surprise you’re all open tomorrow, like they did with the closures. Schools have absolutely zero input on what’s now going to happen and they will find out Sunday, which is why I’m more inclined to believe we will follow Wales as our systems are linked so closely.

You get 18 weeks parental leave per child but can only take 4 weeks per year. And it's unpaid.
