Support thread for those who've had Covid symptoms or post-viral fatigue for at least 7 weeks/49 days or longer.

If your symptoms haven't lasted that long, check out the Lung 7 thread (or later). It'll be more helpful as people there will be in a more similar position.

@Linus1972 wonderful post, so helpful and positive, thanks for sharing your tips and strategies and thoughts. Very much appreciated 😊 I hope this experience confirms for you what a strong person you actually are. Few of us can handle serious illness graciously, but we do what we can when we can. No more is necessary to get through it. We can be kinder and nicer and more considerate when we're perfect better 😉

My temperature has gone up again this afternoon and again this evening. I realise that it was because I hadn't taken paracetamol today for the first time in ages, so it means that I still have a high temperature, it was just being kept down by paracetamol. I'm feeling nauseous again, too. It's definitely the case that afternoons and evenings are the worst.

I've been unwell since 21st February now, this is really getting me down now. Time to call the surgery again in the morning.

I'm so grateful for the support I've had on here. Thanks

godhelpusall · 13/05/2020 19:03

Great post @Linus1972 . Really inspirational. @Mittens030869 that's a long time to be ill! What has the doc said up to now?

Mittens030869 · 13/05/2020 19:31

@godhelpusall Thank you. The doctors have said that it was probably COVID-19 initially but it's secondary infections now. My problem is that I already had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome following pneumonia last year, so I already wasn't well.

I did think that I had another virus initially and then caught the COVID-19 from my DD2, at the big gymnastics holiday club she and DD1 went to at half-term. But I understand that the virus is thought not to doesn't pass from child to parent. And I could as easily have caught it from the same club, as obviously I was taking them there and picking them up.

But I did have 12 consecutive days of a temperature of 38 or over, which could just as easily have been COVID-19.

I'll never know of course, but i would like this to be over. Sad

Egghead68 · 13/05/2020 19:35

Glad it helped @baroqueandblue

@Linus1972 lovely post thank you. P.s. Have you tried ranitidine? May have fewer side-effects than PPIs

@planetcloud The up and down ness is awful. Everyone on this thread knows what it is like. It must end one day. I sympathise with having to work in bed when all you really want to do is sleep and your brain feels shot.

@crayfishforyou I’ve had days of uncontrollable weeping too. It really grinds you down. I resorted to chocolate, wine and trash TV. I hope you feel better soon. I’m sure the posh jumper will help (morale at least)!

bumhead · 13/05/2020 19:43

Hi everyone. I am so sorry you are all still suffering with this.

I was on a few previous threads called 'My lungs'.I think I was luckier than most in that my symptoms were fairly mind compared to some of you but it was still scary and I am still suffering with tiredness and burning right lung.

I have ordered an antibody test to see if I have had the virus and truth be told am scared in case it shows I DIDN'T have it (how pathetic does that sound?) I want the antibody test to show positive so that I might have some immunity to it and hopefully by default my mum might too, who has been staying with us since lockdown.
Has anyone here had the test yet?

fedupofbed · 13/05/2020 19:45

Thank you @Linus1972

Egghead68 · 13/05/2020 19:49

Hi @bumhead (I am very childish and love your username). I’ve got an antibody test from Blue Horizons. I am waiting until day 60 to test myself to give the antibodies more time to form. If it comes back negative I’ll do another test in a month or two. I feel very sure I’ve had Covid, whatever the test says.

Dorual · 13/05/2020 19:51

Hello. I've not been on here for a week or so. Hope everyone is holding up OK.

I still don't know whether I had it, after my negative antibody test. Anyone else had results yet?

Has a recurrence of mild fever 2 weeks ago and went to covid unit. All tests fine. Chest pain still niw though, and worsening of reflux. Panics attacks as falling asleep at nighy. Still got a throat-cleary cough.

Seen other people mention this... my AF has come 5 days early. That never happens.

Mittens030869 · 13/05/2020 19:52

@bumhead Is the antibody test available now? I really didn't know that. Where did you get it from? I'm guessing it's for people who have recovered from COVID-19, in which case it probably wouldn't show immunity in my case? But I think my DD2 has it in early March, she had a high temperature, chest pain and bad headache (as well as aches and pains). She was ill for 4 days. If the antibody test is positive for her, it would be a form of confirmation for me.

Thank you for updating us on here. Do let us know the results of the test.

Mittens030869 · 13/05/2020 19:53

Okay, seen the update, thank you. Smile

Rosesofeyam · 13/05/2020 20:00

linus1972 Flowers Thank you.

I cried for the first time last night. All of a sudden the enormity of what I've been through just hit me like a ton of bricks.

I'm just waiting now for the day I can say I'm symptom free. I can wish.
I agree it helps to be positive and be grateful for the little things.
Truthfully,it's hard at times.

bumhead · 13/05/2020 20:01

@Egghead68 Thank you Grin it's my DH name for me Hmm Grin

That's where I bought it from, it hasn't arrived yet though. I will have to check how many days I am and wait for a bit then. Was yours the ELISA one that you send back or the cassette one?

@Mittens030869 It was from Blue Horizon Medicals. I have used them loads of times for my thyroid tests so I know they are a reputable lab. I am hoping this test is reliable though, new developments seem to happen every week don't they?

I will update you guys once I've done it and what the results are

Mittens030869 · 13/05/2020 20:08

Linus1972, thank you for the post, it was very helpful to me as well. My thing is to watch my favourite DVDs, or ITV3 dramas and get my mind off my health problems right now.

I also enjoy having my cats cuddling up to me on the bed. ;Not that I don't love my DDs to bits, btw, but the thing about the cats is that there isn't any backchat. Grin

Mittens030869 · 13/05/2020 20:10

Thank you for that reply, @bumhead I look forward to your update on the test. I hope we'll all be able to report back saying that we've recovered from this. Smile

WorriesomeDad · 13/05/2020 20:31

@stayathomegardener no I think It’s def COVID just that it has basically triggered a very similar inflammatory condition.

Cheers @LetsBeSensible, that sounds entirely sensible! I think it’s important to be wary. I dont think there’s a quick fix.

Hey @Moominmamma33. Definitely a dip to celebrate the 8 week anniversary, chills, nausea, general malaise, breathing is a bit better but seem to be getting more in the way of neurological issues, brain fog etc and while I don’t feel that fatigued, sleeping just isn’t satisfying. Crazy mood swings too.

Mentally I’m in a pretty low place at the moment. Start some fairly strong antidepressants tomorrow so hopefully they will help.

I hope you are all as well as can be. I know it’s important to keep the faith that this will improve but I’m finding it bloody difficult. Kind of had it in my head that it would be 8 weeks at the outside to feel better, but still feels a way off to me. Sorry I couldn’t be more positive. Wishing you all healing vibes and a restful night Flowers

godhelpusall · 13/05/2020 21:04

Hey @WorriesomeDad good to see you back! Thought you'd relocated to the slack group... I'm having an 8 week relapse from being better for two weeks as well, it's difficult not to feel defeatist. I'm on Anti depressants, which ones have you got? Just to warn you they take time to work usually and can feel worse before better but stick with it. Once they work you should feel 'better'.

Littleninja1 · 13/05/2020 21:23

Hi everyone, I've been away for a while. My lung pain returned with a vengeance three days ago along with increased fatigue. I think this is because I overdid it at the weekend with cleaning the house of all things as I had more energy. It's really shitty and I'm sorry you are all still here too. I thought it would be over by now but I'm back in bed at 9pm.

My GP says to take ibuprofen for the inflammation and that it's now proven to not worsen outcomes. Anyone been taking it?

LetsBeSensible · 13/05/2020 21:47

@littleninja1 I was taking it but have run out. It was upsetting my stomach despite lansporasole.
@Lightsabre thanks for info, very interesting, I will post the clicks link
www.post-covid.org.uk/
@WorriesomeDad sorry you’re downhearted. It’s hard going but I’ve been through similar a few times before and I always got better than I was at my worst point.

Needsomegoodnews · 13/05/2020 21:55

@Littleninja1 (sorry you’re back, I always hope those who stop posting must be completely better and busy jogging round the park or similar!) I’ve been wondering about ibuprofen too but worried about anything possibly making things worse. I have a daily lemsip with paracetamol but it doesn’t do much, just a comfort really, and hasn’t ever brought temp down. I’d love to hear if anyone’s had an improvement of chest/lung symptoms with ibuprofen.

Needsomegoodnews · 13/05/2020 22:04

On another note, has anyone found any benefit or harm from a medicinal glass of wine? I haven’t had a drink since I got ill over 8 weeks ago (and haven’t really wanted to) but I’m getting so stressed with being ill and now kids are winding me up as my fuse is so short so I’m wondering if it might help one evening!

Moominmamma33 · 13/05/2020 22:06

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52648557 I know that the condition in this article is very rare, and affects children, but it's an inflammatory response and the article mentions it may not only affect children, too..I wonder if there is any connection to what we have all experienced? An unusual immune response leading to inflammation?

pinkoneblueone · 14/05/2020 01:20

@KatySun unfortunately you get a 4/5 day dip around where you are I noticed a change around 60 days as long as I didn't over do it. I hope you are ok today I have only just popped back on so just spotted your comment

pinkoneblueone · 14/05/2020 01:42

@Moominmamma33 I am just back from hospital with my 15 year old who has developed a rash has been more thirsty than usual may have cracked lips but we were wearing face masks to the hospital. Doctor dismissed that we may have had the virus as we hadn't been tested.

I am really not happy. Thankfully my son is quite well which is good but boy am I worried.

pinkoneblueone · 14/05/2020 02:29

Day 67/68 round here still up as this has knocked my sleeping patterns all out and I have had a bit of an eventful evening.

I must ask has anyone round this stage got really itchy skin and hands? I had a blood test a few day ago all was well with it but I am super itchy.
