Drinking more in lockdown

Is it just me that seems to have taken up a wine drinking hobby in lockdown?

I've never been a big drinker (aside from when I was at uni). I'd have the odd wine/gin here and there but since lock down I get through a bottle of wine a week!

I wonder if it's just because DH is home now so I have company?

Anyone else the same? Is it just because we're bored?

A bottle of wine a week?? I thought you were going to say a day! A bottle in a week is quite tame for a lot of people.

I'm definitely drinking more, it's something to look forward to at the end of the day, the nice weather makes me want to have a drink and I'm lucky enough not to have to get up too early. I do worry about my intake though.

priya38 · 05/05/2020 15:56

I've found myself also siding into the "drinking more" category since the lockdown. Like previous poster said I think it's something to look forward to at the end of a day (not every day) and also the nice weather.

But one bottle of wine a week is nothing. I don't even know how people can open a bottle of wine have one glass and put it back in the fridge, I have to finish the whole bottle off 🤭

I would say we are ‘moderate’ drinkers...but during the first few of weeks of lockdown we definitely went beyond this...it felt like a treat outside of all the doom and gloom. Now we’re a bit further along and back to moderate...and trying to hopefully stay here...I think the clothes getting a bit tight was a wake up call we couldn’t continue like we were on holiday 😂

PurpleDaisies · 05/05/2020 16:08

A bottle of wine a week (each) is still within the guidelines.

I’ve started saving alcohol for weekends just so Friday and Saturday nights feel a bit different. I also didn’t want to start drinking out of habit.

amazedmummy · 05/05/2020 17:36

It'd probably be more if I didn't have DS to look after

I’m definitely drinking more, partly because I am never driving. But mainly it’s the only enjoyment left in life.

Delatron · 05/05/2020 17:51

It might be lots for you but a bottle of wine a week is under the guidelines and not excessive.

I thought you were going to say a bottle of wine a night!

happymummy12345 · 05/05/2020 17:53

No I'm drinking the same amount as I always do. That's every night for me. I enjoy a drink when I'm relaxing once ds is in bed

amazedmummy · 05/05/2020 18:09

I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things but it's a fair increase for me.

It’s not at a level that would affect your health though. Unless it’s impacting your sleep/health in other ways?

It must only be what five glasses a week spread out?

ESpressoNotEXpresso · 05/05/2020 18:20

I really wouldn't worry about that OP. As long as you're not creeping up and up. A bottle a week is perfectly fine.

I was definitely drinking more in the beginning. Every day for a couple of weeks, but have now got back to Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

bigchris · 05/05/2020 18:22

How does a bottle last a week Grin

Delatron · 05/05/2020 18:24

Good point. Doesn’t wine go off after three days?!

Tdaadfb100 · 05/05/2020 18:29

Haha! Made my sides split! Bless..

YeOldeTrout · 05/05/2020 19:06

I'm with you, OP. I don't think bottle/week is great for me, but I don't have many distractions, so...

btsky · 05/05/2020 19:10

Bottle of wine a week made me laugh.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/05/2020 19:11

A bottle lasts a week....how do you do that Witchery???

PumpkinP · 05/05/2020 19:15
Grin
BlueBrian · 05/05/2020 19:25

A bottle of wine a week? I wouldn't even call that drinking in any serious way, a bottle a night maybe.

StCharlotte · 05/05/2020 19:42

Not drinking more but we are drinking at home which we don't normally do. I have a glass or two when we do the Virtual Pub Quiz on a Thursday then we have a family quiz on zoom on Saturdays - the first week we got completely mortal!

amazedmummy · 05/05/2020 19:45

Well I'm partly making it last because I can't just pop to the shops and pick up another one. Partly because I don't want to be drunk and in charge of a baby and with a low tolerance I think that is a real possibility. I think you're right about driving though @nex18. I'm always the designated driver but now there's nowhere to drive to.

ValiaH · 05/05/2020 19:45

Yep, same here @amazedmummy. A bottle a week, so 2 glasses 2x a week. Sometimes 3 evenings, so a bottle and a half each. Which is quite a lot for us, as usually it would be a glass or 2 each once a week when we have friends over.

ginandnappies · 05/05/2020 19:45

A bottle of wine a week?! Don't give it another thought. Even if after lockdown you carried on it is below guidelines, if it's bothering you try buying some non alcoholic wines? I'm going through a few bottles a week and not worried, although my waist isn't agreeing...

Starrynightsabove · 05/05/2020 19:48

A bottle of wine is 3 large glasses or 4 small ones. And about 9 units. So over 7 days you’re going crazy...

Is this a stealth boast post 🙄

Teenytinyratsass · 05/05/2020 19:50

A bottle of wine a week? Is this the coronavirus version of the Mumsnet chicken?
