I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Thank you for posting, OP!

DuMondeB · 05/05/2020 19:06

Commenting because I want to hear about your results!

Fingers crossed you get the answer you are hoping for.

Doingmybest4u · 05/05/2020 19:30

Very interested in the results - when were you poorly and did you have CV symptoms? Fingers crossed you get the result you want

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2020 19:35

I'm curious as to how this will go.

horsemadgal · 05/05/2020 19:39

Good luck Laurie

Dorual · 05/05/2020 19:46

@Confuzzled123 I took it on day 23.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/05/2020 19:49

They must be rubbing their hands together with glee at people doing this.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/05/2020 19:56

@LaurieFairyCake Sorry if I missed it, but when did you get ill and what were your symptoms?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/05/2020 19:57

@Doingmybest4u oops, sorry!

RaggieDolls · 05/05/2020 19:58

Fascinated to know what result you receive. I would really like one of these tests too. It's crossed my mind that the illness I had in Jan was very similar to how the CV19 symptoms are described.

Karwomannghia · 05/05/2020 20:06

I’d love to know. Ds 15 had a terrible cough weeks ago and dd 3 a fever and cold symptoms and I had a mild cough and sore throat. Dh has just recovered from temp and aches. I’d love to know we’d had it and I’d just had it mildly! Looking forward to your results!

JackJackIncredible · 05/05/2020 20:45

Genuine question, if they’re reputable then why aren’t the NHS offering them? What are we waiting for?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 20:56

Someone made a series of very good points earlier on this thread about this. Starting with concerns about passports, people trying to get the virus, people being fired if they hadn't had it - loads of things I haven't thought of Jack

The NHS test is a swab to the nose and throat. I was convinced my son and daughter had it as they had symptoms for a while but nothing warranting a trip to hospital. I have to admit I was shocked when we all came back negative. However made me call the GP to ensure we werent missing something else. Folks are assuming any symptom is covid when you should be speaking to your GP and getting proper advice. My son ended up on antibiotics for something unrelated to covid

Xiqu · 05/05/2020 21:09

What about the new mutant strain? Your antibody test will be for the Wuhan strain im guessing??
Just breaking tonight the Covid19 spreading in Europe in March is different to the original Wuhan Covid 19.

@JackJackIncredible

I posted this link earlier in the thread. It is a note that describes some of the potential issues:

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/882726/29-pre-empting-possible-negative-behavioural-responses-covid-19-antibody-testing-13042020.pdf

The government declassified quite a few of these documents today, so if you are are interested in why they made certain decisions at certain points you can now read about some of what has been going on behind the scenes.

CarlottaValdez · 05/05/2020 21:12

I’m really tempted but I’m not sure quite how I’d respond to the results.

JackJackIncredible · 05/05/2020 21:19

Thanks @LaurieFairyCake
I wouldn’t have thought of those things either!
Let us know how you get on

JackJackIncredible · 05/05/2020 21:21

@NotAnotherUserNumber

Interesting document, had a skim read and I’ll have a proper read tomorrow. Thank you for sharing!

Room101isWhereIUsedtoLive · 05/05/2020 21:42

Hope I don't gross anyone out, but hypothetically speaking, could one use menstrual blood, rather than the blood produced by having a finger prick test?

SirVixofVixHall · 05/05/2020 21:49

I am confused by that Sky article re mutation, I don’t understand what that means for us in Europe, other than that it is supposedly even more contagious?

Madwife123 · 05/05/2020 21:49

You might as well have burned your money. They are not accurate, there is a huge false negative rate and the positive results are for ANY coronavirus (of which there are many) not the novel coronavirus alone so the results are useless.

TheMShip · 05/05/2020 22:04

Before anyone freaks out about the supposed new strain, please read this. At the moment it's just as likely that the mutation they're talking about has spread by chance rather than that it's actually more transmissible.

YinMnBlue · 05/05/2020 22:08

Room101 I wouldn’t have thought so. Only about half of menstrual fluid is blood. The rest is endometrial matter, vaginal secretions, cervical secretions etc.

Eggybreadleg · 05/05/2020 22:20

I want to do this too but I think the price will come down quite a bit over the next month and we aren't going anywhere before then anyway.
