Is it because they won't be able to spend their holidays doing the same thing at the aires?

I lost the first thread.
Posting so as to not lose this one.
Apparently there is an Action and a Noz a few km from me. Usually a long, frustrating journey due to city traffic. Deconfinement may provide me with an opportunity to discover these gems without too many other road users.

Both DC in Lycée so no news from school about afterwards.

Just heard from our school too, we’re not going back, just the DCs of health workers.

Am I right in thinking that as of next week private gatherings of 10 people or under are allowed or am I making this up? Does it include play dates?

We’ve just have the numbers through for 6ème and 5ème. For demographic reasons our 6ème classes are pretty small anyway, but no class has more than 10 signed up to come back. The two I teach will have 6 and 9. The 5ème, despite being classes of 32, will all be under 15, except for one where 19 children have signed up. That’s across 6 classes per year group. We don’t need to change the timetable as we’re fine for class sizes, and we’ll deliver the same work in the classroom as we post online. Students will be told to email any questions for us during lesson times, as with fewer than 10 per class we’ll have time to answer... We’re probably going to scrap Wednesday mornings though.

Across our 3 primary sites we’ve got a 40% uptake, about 225 children. But from PS to CM2. So although the classes will be small it’ll still be a staggered return. And only half of those have asked to use the cantine. DS2’s teacher emailed to say only a few children are due to return, that’s in CE1.

The head said we should all be planning long distance lessons, as even in class we’ll just be supporting that. And that this is a practise run for September, as it’s not clear that students will be returning full time then Confused.

We’ve just had a message asking if we want our six-year-old to go back. Tricky because it looks like the three-year-old can’t. Both would be no problem but one or the other is going to be complicated.

I believe that any private meeting with less than 10 is allowed.

Just got a video for the kids from all the teachers at my son's school telling us how much they miss them all. No, YOU'RE crying.

Latest news from our maternelle is that it's unlikely that they'll be ready to reopen on 12th May. We're in a green zone (not just at department level, but entire region).

I'm wondering now if I've been missing out on Action all this time! I went in once to see what all the fuss was about and wasn't very impressed. But now I'm wondering if going at 6pm just before closing wasn't particularly representative. I've just looked up Noz, but it's not that close to me - although there is one near the toy shop formally known as Toys r Us, so I might go and investigate when I go to get DS's birthday present.

@Frenchfancy

Do you know what «private» means? Just at home? Not in a park etc?

And are the individuals in the group expected to socially distance when they are together? Or not?

I did mention the «private groups under 10» to the mother of one of my sons friends... she was not sure whether it includes play dates, and I am slightly worried about being seen to be irresponsible in suggesting it!

KatharinaRosalie · 05/05/2020 21:08

I'm pretty sure play dates are allowed, except if you plan to invite more than 10 people

Report
KatharinaRosalie · 05/05/2020 21:09

it says 'Les rassemblements organisés sur la voie publique ou dans des lieux privés seront limités à 10 personnes'

I was wondering if anyone on here knew if INED publish an all cause weekly mortality summary compared to a 5 year rolling average like the office of national statistics does in the UK? I looked but while I found details if all deaths in a given week including name, department and origin (scary that that detail can be downloaded on line!), I was looking for something which showed the total deaths for France by week.

Euromomo.eu has an indication of when the high level of excess deaths kicked in but again, not quite what I am looking for..

Anyone know?

I feel like I'm missing out having never been to either Action or Noz!

The weird random rupture de stock is still happening in my local Carrefour. Today it was lardons Confused Sometimes it's the cheese that is gone and last week all the chickens in the entire department seemed to have vanished. It's so strange!!

Report
CroissantsAtDawn · 06/05/2020 07:24

Lardons have been difficult to get hold of here since lockdown. Sometimes there are allumettes which I don't like, but lardons are tricky.

Meat is varying - sometimes its ok, sometimes very hard to get.

Eggs were scarce at the beginning but fine now.

Our Carrefour Drive is still short of lardons, but the organic shop has plenty. I think the cheese choice is limited and the Italian cheeses which were there at the beginning have gone.
DH has gone on the first trip to the fishmonger and butcher today. I found the butcher on Facebook and messaged our order through to save time. Feels like a great leap forward!
As for eggs... we are still getting 24 a week for two of us from our neighbour. At least we are getting plenty of Vitamin D.

I have answered my own question... insee.fr/fr/information/4470857

It looks like the all-cause death figures in France are tracking ahead of 2019 by approximately 24,000 for the weeks between 1 March and 20th April, which compares to 22,000 Corona Virus deaths reported during the same period which implies that at this stage there is not a huge increase in non Covid deaths at this stage.

Unlike the UK where there are 38,000 excess deaths in the weeks between the 1 March and 17th April but only 23,000 Coronavirus deaths reported.

usuallydormant · 06/05/2020 10:58

Le Monde's decodeur section also has a huge amount of data down to department level, based on official data but there's a map here giving excess mortality down to department level...

No schools (at any level) are going to open here before the 18th. Has anyone else in a university been told it is likely you will still be teaching on-line in September?

Wallywobbles · 06/05/2020 11:55

I wrote a longish post at the end of the last thread and killed it. It probably came across as totally unrelated to France.

What is the feeling about teens (or smalls) in low risk households, who are not going back to school, seeing their friends again after the 11th? I'm getting a lot of pressure - even from DD1 boyfriends mother. He's an only child stuck in an apartment so maybe not surprising.

All households concerned have been isolating properly thus far. And as of next week adults will be going back part time so risk is going to be increasing anyway.

Our school have said that they are now closed till July.

Report
KatharinaRosalie · 06/05/2020 12:13

Booboo so they mean until september then? Or are they rally planning to open for a couple of days only?

Wally I want to send them back ASAP. I have small DC and they really need to be social, zoom calls or whatsapps don't work for them. I can't isolate them for the next year or two, and if they are already playing with their friends on the street, might as well sit in a classroom with those same friends.

I think that's my feeling @KatharinaRosalie might as well start seeing individual friends. But no parties for a while. No chance of teens keeping more than a cm apart.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/05/2020 12:32

Ah i saw your question on the old thread. What is your husband's plan then, never to see any people ever again? I would definitely allow your DC to see their friends next week.

Booboostwo · 06/05/2020 12:45

Katharina I have no idea. The email just said that the school is now closed until July with the exception of the children of health care staff. Go figure.
