Actually, can someone enlighten me what does the 'obligatoire' mean and what excuses can be used if I want to take term time holidays need to take them out of school? I have no idea, I could of course ask the school but they are busy enough at the moment. I'm pretty sure they have never mentioned anything, just to write it in the book if they are not in.
Does that depend on the school or are there national guidelines? If school, what is the policy of yours?

Wallywobbles · 17/06/2020 21:32

I'm just going to send in a non-justified absence on Monday, saying my DD1 will not be in before la rentrée. I'm sure I won't be alone - in fact I know I won't because we have one of her classmates staying with us until the holidays.

Watchagotcha · 17/06/2020 21:56

@KatharinaRosalie

Officially, if they are sick. Or “Vulnerable”. Or if they have a close family member who is vulnerable.

Unofficially, I understand that “Family reasons” covers a multitude of absences.,,

LaChatte · 18/06/2020 08:17

Just call/email in saying absent pour raison familiale.

Booboostwo · 18/06/2020 09:18

Just got an email with the protocole from the school. I only skimmed it but everyone seems to be going back, 1 meter distancing, over 11s to wear masks. Cantine, garderie and bus all restarting.

Raindropsonrosesand · 19/06/2020 05:25

Has the rule to prevent people sharing a car with someone not in their household been lifted?

My elderly parents want to go from Paris to their second home in Nice. They'll be much more comfortable there, but I'm trying to figure out the safest way for them to get there.

They've booked the RER for Saturday. How busy are the trains just now? Would you expect it to be quieter on a weekday than Saturday, or doesn't that apply just now?

I'm considering coming over (from Surrey) and driving them down, but not sure whether that actually puts them at more risk (from me!) with our numbers being higher, and having to stop overnight to break up the drive. WWYD?

Frenchfancy · 19/06/2020 05:57

Dd is back in college on Monday. 2 days next week and 1 the week after then that's it until September.Hmm

@Raindropsonrosesand I would think the train would be fine. Masks are obligatory. Nothing is too crowded. Tbh I don't think it really comes under "helping vulnerable family" if they don't actually have to travel so you would be subject to quarantine on both sides of the channel.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/06/2020 06:17

Raindrops all UK arrivals are required to quarantine for 14 days so not sure travelling with an extra stop would be possible.

Watchagotcha · 19/06/2020 06:22

Woohoo DS2 is back in CM1 full time from Monday! Thank goodness: if he didn’t, that would be basically 5.5 months of no French (March to sept) as we are all English at home.

Raindropsonrosesand · 19/06/2020 07:47

I've checked the 'helping vulnerable people' quarantine exemption clause, and it doesn't apply to us.

I thought the quarantine allowed for multiple addresses to allow people to stop off on their way somewhere?

Something I've struggled to find out is whether you can cut short the quarantine by leaving the country?

Quarantine on my return would be fine. Although it sounds like we may get a travel corridor soon.

The no car-sharing rule is trickier, since that's the entire point of the trip!

Bandol · 19/06/2020 11:37

Both mine (GS and CE2) will be back in school full time from Monday. They have places for everyone because they are abandoning distancing between pupils, although maintaining other hygiene measures.

Given the short notice, both schools have taken a very pragmatic approach and said that if you have already made other arrangements until the end of term to let them know of the absence. The will be ALEA before and after school and at lunchtime, but no cantine so I need to make packed lunches.

So happy to be getting back to some normality - centre de loisirs is booked for the holidays too.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/06/2020 11:47

Both mine back full time too! No distancing in maternelle.
School sent a very passive aggressive email about how we were finally sent the protocole late last evening and now as the president has told everybody we have to accept your brats back..

Wallywobbles · 19/06/2020 14:50

@LaChatte I've done as you suggested. Thanks

NomadNoMore · 19/06/2020 16:59

@Raindropsonrosesand the wording is that people are "invited" to quarantine here....lots of British visitors have been arriving here and not bothering. There's no fine.

LaChatte · 20/06/2020 15:42

We are preparing the rentrée for September, lots and lots of hours are being set aside to help the kids who décroched during lockdown (nothing said about those who more or less kept up online). For now there is no question of anything but a normal rentrée with normal class sizes and normal EDT.

Roseau18 · 21/06/2020 08:57

My university says they are still waiting for Ministerial instructions but that it is likely to by "hybrid" with half classes every other week.
For me this seems unworkable - for a start they are saying maximum 15 students in a group but in English we have groups of 40 and half of 40 doesn't make 15.

AuldAlliance · 25/06/2020 09:03

We were told last night that all but those vulnerable to COVID are to return to work on campus as of Mon. Students only in exceptional, authorised cases.

LaChatte · 26/06/2020 19:19

Today was the last day of lesson in our collège. There were between 10 and 15 pupils per class (usually 26). The kids worked surprisingly well all things considered. Now for a week of meetings. Joy.

There are more and more cases around us, yet we're being less and less careful.

SheWranglesRugRats · 28/06/2020 20:29

Anyone else following the elections? The results look pretty amazing. The lockdown seems to have triggered a real shift in the political landscape.

AuldAlliance · 29/06/2020 07:07

Just seen your post. Yes, some good news in there. I really hope it's not just a flash in the pan.

SheWranglesRugRats · 29/06/2020 10:19

Fingers crossed. I mean I know these elections are traditionally used to give the president a good spanking, but Bordeaux going Lefty is not something I thought I would see in my lifetime!

Chaotic45 · 29/06/2020 10:31

Sorry to jump into your thread. I'm in the UK. I hope all posters in France are coping ok. I had thought things were moving in a positive direction in France but actually it's hard to be sure of anything as the picture varies depending on what I read....

My brother announced over the weekend that he and his family have booked into a campsite in France (the mid west coast near to Royan), and they hope to tow their caravan there via the tunnel. He is sure he will not be required to quarantine either end as they are not going until early August.

My parents are now considering doing the same thing and joining them. They are in late 70s.

I wondered if anyone closer to the ground in France could tell me how they feel about this plan? In many ways it sounds like a wonderful idea, and I hope they all have a fantastic time but I am a little concerned and wondered if anyone could provide us with any reassurance.

SheWranglesRugRats · 29/06/2020 11:08

I wouldn't worry about that plan Chaotic. The situation is pretty well under control here and Royan is not in a region where the virus really got a grip in the first place.

Mistigri · 29/06/2020 12:00

A caravan holiday in western France arriving via the tunnel sounds like one of the safest holiday options in Europe this year!

In our SW France département we've had the grand total of one case in the last few weeks ... despite decent levels of testing. There is only one person left in hospital (someone who has unfortunately been in intensive care for many weeks).

Élections: we (I say we although in this house only DD19 can vote) booted out our very elderly maire. The lists aren't really party affiliated here, except for the "divers gauche" list which listed support from the gilets jaunes and France insoumise and promptly lost my DD's vote. She voted for the centrist list which had no party links & which unseated the incumbent maire.

LaChatte · 03/07/2020 10:11

Last night was the end of year party for staff. Zero social distancing, no masks, big open buffet, lots of bises. If one person has covid then I'm sure that in a fortnight the 60 odd people present (me inclided) will have it.
