Wally you don’t have any capacity in the second half of August do you?

LaChatte · 13/06/2020 11:21

We think Macron is going to announce an easing of mesures sanitaires in schools, meaning that we have to take all voluntary kids in full time (mostly problematic in primary schools).

KatharinaRosalie · 14/06/2020 19:06

Sorry my French is dreadful, did he just say that all children must mandatorily go back from 22nd? Would certainly be good news for DD, whose school has said they're not opening.

AuldAlliance · 14/06/2020 19:18

Yep.
But not lycées, AFAIK.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/06/2020 19:20

DD is in maternelle. She would love to see her friends, even if it is just for a week.

LaChatte · 14/06/2020 20:27

All children must go back as of the 22nd under normal conditions.

Wallywobbles · 14/06/2020 22:47

@SheWranglesRugRats not currently got space but as future guests are English it rather depends on Boris.

Wallywobbles · 14/06/2020 22:49

I think DSC (6eme and 4ème) will be going back but I'm very unlikely to send DD (4ème) back. We are going to the beach house plus horses and dogs and friends etc. As always this year everything is flux.

Wallywobbles · 14/06/2020 22:50

Flou even.

KatharinaRosalie · 15/06/2020 06:16

Wally would you have the option now it was declared mandatory again?
I'm waiting to hear about DD as the school had already told us it will not open and sent all their stuff home, and of course some parents have already made plans accordingly..

Booboostwo · 15/06/2020 06:33

I would imagine that the education department will ‘clarify’ the situation tomorrow by saying something different.

CroissantsAtDawn · 15/06/2020 06:51

Hehe. Some mums I know are fuming at the mandatory school from the 22nd - they're still in their maisons secondaires and had no intention of coming back to Paris!

We don't mind as it ll only be 6 days (private school finishing before state schools) and the DC are enjoying their 2 half days atm.

Only hiccup is work insisting we're back 2 days a week from 1st July....and my 3 week "garde" in the UK by my parents isn't yet guaranteed so god knows what I ll do with the DC.

During the last week of school we usually have meetings to prepare the rentrée. I have the feeling they're going to make us come in the week after to do these meetings. It's not as if anyone can jet off on holiday anyway!

CroissantsAtDawn · 15/06/2020 08:13

Well the borders are open.... Grin

Just dropped DC off to school. Headmistress made an announcement to the parents waiting there that we won't have any information about next week until Tuesday evening at the earliest. It seems that the schools were taken unaware by yesterday's speech.

OP posts:
LaChatte · 15/06/2020 08:29

Other than being told to watch his speech last night, schools weren't told anything in advance! We now have to wait until the JO on Wednesday comes out. Blanquer has said all pupils will go back full time, but in classrooms there must be 1m lateral spacing... not possible in most classrooms with 30 kids. God knows what will be announced on Wednesday.

CroissantsAtDawn · 15/06/2020 09:17

And all that just before the holidays....

Such a lot of energy spent!

LaChatte · 15/06/2020 09:26

I think trying to get all the kids back before the summer is quite a good idea in that it allows everyone some sort of closure for the school year as it were. There won't be much actual teaching going on though! It will also enable the admin to see what's going to be possible and what's not for September.

LaChatte · 15/06/2020 09:27

Just saw more info tomorrow, not Wednesday.

LaChatte · 16/06/2020 19:08

In order to fit all the pupils in our classrooms while sticking to the new distances we will have to remove all the desks according to the rectorat. Voilà.

Watchagotcha · 17/06/2020 11:11

Lol @LaChatte!

My friends daughters school can do it... but only if they swap all the double desks for singles :-) Maybe they will spend the next couple of days sawing them in half.

DSs school has said - btw the lines - that it’s not going to be obligatory to go back as they cannot fit more than 20-24/30 back in the rooms. They will prioritise the students who have been absent from or failing at distance learning. Timetables will come out by Friday apm.

KatharinaRosalie · 17/06/2020 11:13

DDs school said they can't take all children back and could the parents who want theirs back please let the school know. So much for it being mandatory.

LaChatte · 17/06/2020 11:35

Our deputy head has already planned out the next two weeks and she's said she is NOT changing it, regardless of what is announced today.

Watchagotcha · 17/06/2020 14:38

If you look at what Macron said, it was that attendance will be obligatoire, no longer volontaire, and that “les règles de présence normales" Will apply. To me, that doesn’t read as any kind of commitment to full time school for all children. What it means is that if parents are not sending children back, they will now need to follow the usual process of informing the school and giving a reason - medical, family, personal etc for the absence. The children they want to target are those that have disappeared- and up till now their parents have not been required to explain or justify their absence. That’s what is changing. Oh, and relieving some pressure on theworkforce.

Frenchfancy · 17/06/2020 15:09

We still don't know about DD3 (4ème) collège sent an email saying they were looking into possibilities.

I had a conseil de classe by viseo yesterday. No-one said anything about going back so I asked the question. Head of year said that they couldn't get everyone back because of the 1m spacing, but the biggest problem is that they have 13 staff on sick leave because they are vulnerable.

AuldAlliance · 17/06/2020 19:57

The head of DS2's primary school has emailed to say they can't take everyone back due to understaffing (one teacher's son died 10 days ago and she clearly won't be back for some time; another is at risk) and that he will not be reporting absences, as he knows people have made other arrangements for these last 2 weeks.
We've to specify what our wishes are...
