2nd thread discussing the lockdown in France and the impending deconfinement...

Are documents still needed for travel in France, and who can I approach to get them? I live in the UK, but very happy to speak to officials in France.

My parents live in central Paris, but are starting to really struggle (my mum has moderate Alzheimers, and it's becoming too much for my Dad without respite) and we're considering bringing them over to live with us in the UK. Not sure what the long term holds, but it would give everyone a breather to decide. Safest would be for me to drive over to get them on the Euro tunnel. I live close enough to do it in a day there and back.

thefuriousfuggler · 28/05/2020 10:01

I think this is the form you need to travel currently in France - but I'm not sure that your circumstances fit any of the "allowed" reasons.....but it may all change soon - when would you be thinking of travelling? Don't forget that the UK will soon be requiring you all to quarantine if you return to the UK from France.

We have a local FB page with lots of information and links - might be worth searching for a Paris one - or maybe some of the Paris posters will have a link

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Wow, looks like Switzerland is really opening up from June 19, all tourist attractions, swimming pools. And strip clubs...

www.admin.ch/gov/en/start/documentation/media-releases.msg-id-79268.html

Are they still talking about opening the Swiss/FR borders on June 15? And does this mean French residents without work permits will be allowed freely over the border and back?

My DS back at college today for two days a week - two thirds of his class coming in, which is a bit higher than I expected.

KatharinaRosalie · 28/05/2020 10:38

usually yes, borders will be opened up for everybody from 15th of June.

Switzerland's plan is a bit peculiar. Keep your social distance and no high contact sports, but sex work is allowed. What's that then, tantric sex only?

CroissantsAtDawn · 28/05/2020 10:47

Have you looked at the Uk gov site?

Strawberry I think that would fit into the category "motif familial impérieux" which is specifically intended to provide an exemption to the 100km rule for people travelling for urgent family reasons.

In practice I know a number of people who have driven across France for legitimate reasons (students starting a stage for eg) and I don't know anyone who has been stopped.

Will you fall foul of the new quarantine regulations?

Mistigri · 28/05/2020 12:45

Just take any paperwork you can: eg if your mum has a formal diagnosis of dementia, plus evidence of where they live, ID etc.

LongPauseNoReply · 28/05/2020 14:59

@usuallydormant ah Switzerland ... where it's always 1955!

Non permit holders are being allowed over the border in Pays de Gex into Geneva. As long as you have a "legitimate" excuse. My DD has been in the city practically every day with her friends. She just says she's coming in to meet me but they don't ask for excuses, just look at the ID and wave you through.

We tried to cross into Vaud last week and they turned us back despite us both having work permits! It's hit and miss in Vaud but Geneva are much more relaxed.

CroissantsAtDawn · 28/05/2020 16:44

Yay parks are opening from the 2nd. Too late for this long weekend but yay!!!!

SheWrangles...

This may answer the question you asked yesterday, but it's not quite in the same league as DC's trip to Durham and subsequent eye-test drive:

SheWranglesRugRats · 28/05/2020 17:24

Oh well at least he wasn’t necking shots in a nightclub for a change...

Watchagotcha · 28/05/2020 18:45

... and the 100km limit is lifted from 2nd June! Fingers crossed they don’t have to go back on that a month from now :-/

Watchagotcha · 28/05/2020 19:31

Ouf... and just like that, a sondage from DS collège for a 8th June return!

Strawberrybubblegum · 28/05/2020 19:34

Ah, that's great news about the 100km limit being limited from 2nd June! I was hoping to go over before the 8th: I don't mind us all quarantining for 2 weeks when we get back, but don't want to have to stay in France for 2 weeks which strictly I would have to!

Thanks for the links @thefuriousfuggler and @CroissantsAtDawn, and big thanks to @Mistigri
for the suggestion to use 'motif familial impérieux'. I hadn't noticed that included helping vulnerable famy members, but that might do it.

Many thanks

clearsommespace · 28/05/2020 22:06

@Mistigri
Congratulations to your son.
What resources is he using for the post Bac maths? My DS could do with something like that to keep his brain from seizing up over the long summer. Grin

Mistigri · 29/05/2020 07:10

@clearsommespace see link below. There are other similar documents from other big parisien lycées but this seems to be the most accessible. It's designed students going into MPSI and for my DS it hits the sweet spot between being interesting and challenging, but not frustratingly difficult. He's nearly finished it now, there is a physics one from Henri IV that he is going to try next (apparently very mathematical and a bit less accessible, we will see).

Watchagotcha · 29/05/2020 09:32

So... after the update yesterday I have a question re groups of 10 meeting up: do children have to be counted as part of the group? Even (immobile) babies? Or only after a certain age?

thefuriousfuggler · 29/05/2020 09:42

@watchagotcha

I'm pretty sure that the 10 person limit (which came into force a couple of weeks ago) only applies to gatherings in public places. If you are in a house then the numbers are not limited.

I'll have a dig around and see if I can find the official clarification.

Booboostwo · 29/05/2020 09:44

KatharinaRosalie kindly linked the group gathering guidelines above. 10 person limit seems to be for public spaces.

Oh I might have answered my own question, seems that the 10 person limit does not apply to private residences www.lalsace.fr/sante/2020/05/14/deconfinement-les-rassemblements-de-plus-de-10-personnes-dans-un-lieu-prive-ne-sont-pas-interdits?fbclid=IwAR1CI9hPSlXcRuXjNMvUJnySOjfMaCr7-shNHBCieD7wSCL70YNpQvtLF5w

Booboostwo · 29/05/2020 09:46

School got in touch again today, all the remaining classes are going back on 8th but only for some days (unspecified as yet how many days and which ones). I have requested both DCs attend on same days but I have no idea if they can accommodate this. Otherwise it will be a massive headache with no free time for me to work at all.

thefuriousfuggler · 29/05/2020 10:08

Thanks @booboostwo, you've saved me a trawl Grin

Glad I hadn't imagined it.

Watchagotcha · 29/05/2020 10:29

@Booboostwo

I should have been more precise, it is for public areas, parks mainly, for meeting friends with children.

Watchagotcha · 29/05/2020 12:29

I’m asking because I’m involved in a playgroup association. Our members usually do a lot of meet-ups in a huge parc next to my place. Ive just walked round, and there are several groups of mums with children, maybe 3-4 mums (or nounous i guess) plus 2-3 kids each, so well over 10. I just wondered what age young children «count« as part of the group.

AuldAlliance · 29/05/2020 19:29

Congratulations to your DS, @Mistigri
