Longpause so they let you across the border? Same in Basel, massive crowds in all shops and streets, at least an hour just to get into IKEA, no masks anywhere.

beach you can check this website if you want to know about cases, no they have not increased after lockdown was lifted, but as pp said, it was much stricter and much earlier here. www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus/carte-et-donnees

Mistigri · 23/05/2020 08:49

@LongPauseNoReply good luck with moving your DD this summer. Do you live within a reasonable distance?

I must admit I was very relieved when DS got offers from most of his local applications as it means we can sort out accommodation easily and quickly. It was a nightmare getting DD accommodation in Paris two years ago, and actually with the benefit of hindsight we got lucky (she's about to start her third year in the same studio, which is small but decent and well located + the rent hasn't gone up).

LongPauseNoReply · 23/05/2020 08:55

@katharinaRosalie yes crossed twice. Once on the bus and we weren't checked, yesterday we drove through and they asked to see ID. Both DH and I brought our work permits and they waved us through no questions asked.

@Mistigri not at all close, we're near Genève Grin

CroissantsAtDawn · 23/05/2020 09:24

Hi @LillianGish Im in Paris too but with 2 DC in primary school...at least they should be next week (2 x half day each - how useful!).

It hasn't been great with DC in Paris. A lot of people seem to think that they should never go outside. We've not been taking them into shops but they get tutted at a lot (despite being incredibly well behaved - they know it's a new situation and they stay 2m away)

OP posts:
SheWranglesRugRats · 23/05/2020 09:31

Croissants you should take them to the parc Georges Valbon in La Courneuve, it’s massive, open, and not a million miles outside Paris.

CroissantsAtDawn · 23/05/2020 10:14

Oh wow will have to look at that thanks!

The parks being shut in Paris is a pain.

Went to the market this morning and .... not again, until this is all over (though I might try the smaller mid week market).

It's just impossible to make people social distance at markets, and actually what the mairie is doing is making things worse by creating bottlenecks. I feel for the stall holders, because their business must be down significantly for no material improvement in safety.

Mask wearing seems to be close to 100% in the bigger shops but was not happening much this morning either at the market or in the little shops. I find it so disrespectful when people go into a small shop without a mask, when the staff are wearing them.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/05/2020 12:21

LongPause was it just you and DH, or DC too? DH and both have permits, so no issues with crossing, but at least in theory the DC are not allowed in, and they really miss their friends.

Gfplux · 23/05/2020 13:51

@beachdays123
Please do not think that Britain and France locked down at almost the same time.
France went into HARD lockdown a week before Britain went into a “you can if you want to” type of lockdown.

That week and the attitude of the Politicians costs many many lives in Britain.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/05/2020 14:42

Yes UK politicians were still talking about herd immunity when we here were already distancing. And UK 'lockdown' was nothing like French one, we were not allowed to leave our homes.

thesnoopdragon · 23/05/2020 15:45

@Gfplux and @katherina are quite correct - you really can't compare what happened here in France with the "well, maybe stay in, just for a bit, but pop out if you need to" UK version.

I have just commented on another thread with figures for where I am:

Our department has a population of just over 250 000. There have been 5 deaths since February. There are 6 people currently in hospital with the virus.

Still, the quarantine regulations now mean that DH won't be getting back to the UK to visit his 94 year old mum who lives alone.

a) 14 days is far too long for a visit (house is kept at the approximate temperature of the sun and TV volume can probably be heard in a galaxy far, far away).

b) the point of going would be totally defeated if he was unable to leave the house.

LongPauseNoReply · 23/05/2020 15:47

@KatharinaRosalie it was just DH and myself. DD has been in the city loads by herself. She goes in on the bus. She's been in practically every day this week, swimming in the lake, meeting with friends etc. Only checked once and it was for ID not a work permit. She just showed her carte de séjour and they let her through.

CroissantsAtDawn · 23/05/2020 16:19

Just been for a lovely walk along the seine. Quite a few people but less busy than before covid. Lots of people sitting with picnics but the groups were well spread out. About 70% of people walking around wearing masks (compared to 99.9% in shops).

I did laugh when I saw a group of ados meet up in glee and do the bises whilst wearing masks. Obviously a well ingrained habit! They were so pleased to see each other though, was lovely.

To PP (sorry can't remember who), DS should be on crutches for a week. He was complaining non stop about his ankle hurting for 4 days but today has only complained once an hour so its obviously getting better. Still can't walk without crutches though so school on Monday is looking doubtful.

DSes enjoyed their first morning back. Lots of gestes barrieres in place. Only 8 in CE2 and 10 in GS.

Slight hiccup was DS with an aircast on not being allowed to take the lift, or hold onto handrail/wall in the staircase Shock but he survived.

Still got a lot of work to do at home though...

OP posts:
KatharinaRosalie · 25/05/2020 12:54

Wow you would think they could make an exception for him, was he expected to fly or something?

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/05/2020 14:21

Thats fairly typical for his school. They are not amazingly caring (1 or 2 exceptions). I think it speaks volumes for his maitresse that so few DC came back. She regularly reduces kids to tears and I used to have to sit near DS during his zoom lessons cos he was so scared.

I was actually surprised he wanted to go back and I'm glad he did.

The school is very much performance driven. We won't be staying for collège! (Although the maternelle is fantastic).

Anyone know when the next "big announcement" will be? And what are they likely to talk about? Summer holidays? Bars and restaurants?

I'd really like to know what's planned for schools come September. With two kids in school and a teacher DH, it would be great to have a heads-up of what's planned. DH reckons his proviseur is expecting to start the year as we end it i.e. split of home and school (such as it is) with a progressive return to "normality" at school. This of course means that he expects many of the gestes sanitaires to be abandoned over time - the limits on how many in a class, etc. Maybe they'll manage to keep the soap available in the toilets for a while...

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/05/2020 15:58

I understood bars, restaurants and July/August travel to be announced this week. With possible lifting of 100km limit too.

Haven't heard about schools. I'd assume it's too early to see results of going back. And I do not want to start next year as a split day (school/home). I think it was ok for reinforcing already learnt concepts and learning a few extra ones, but not for the start of the school year.

OP posts:
LaChatte · 25/05/2020 17:23

Next big announcement for us as teachers is this Thursday. Doesn't give us masses of time to get organised. We are under the impression that they want everyone back as of next week, god knows how they expect it to work.

DD's school have said that as of next week there will be no distance learning at all, so either we send her in 2 days a week or we do it all ourselves, which isn't going to be possible if I go back full time.

SheWranglesRugRats · 25/05/2020 19:36

Ds Had his first day today as well. Had to bribe him to get out of the house but he enjoyed it once he was there. He has a new teacher who he said was very very nice. All around positive here.

KatharinaRosalie · 25/05/2020 19:59

Front page of local newspaper - IKEA is open again! Grin

Also, some idiots organised a football match on Facebook, they estimate about 400 people got together in Strasbourg. Guess we will have our next wave sooner than the others..

Gfplux · 25/05/2020 21:04

Luxembourg.
All school kids back with the last Primary and play school today.
Announced today that resteraunt/bars Terraces open from Wednesday and interiors Friday. However limited numbers, social distancing, masks on when arriving and leaving, no standing at the bar etc.

Shame really as Wednesday we plan to go shopping and have lunch in Trier Germany as the border is open for this type of visit.
We are still waiting for the Border to open to France and Belgium.

Wallywobbles · 26/05/2020 06:52

Message yesterday from college saying pushing opening back for some classes to 2 June. Only one child back in DSS class in 6ieme.

CroissantsAtDawn · 26/05/2020 17:48

Im surprised so few children are going back.

DS (GS) came out of his 2nd half day today grinning from ear to ear. As were all his little friends. The mums were agreeing that its good for the children to see other children. But other parents have obviously made other choices.

In another year 13 children out of 23 have come back.

@KatharinaRosalie I drove DD over the border yesterday and today. She doesn’t have a work permit, I showed my permit and she just showed her carte de séjour and they waved us through. Nobody asked us why we were going in. Might be worth trying, worst case they turn you back.
