Back to work today, 30 pupils present out of 350. Voilà voilà.

KatharinaRosalie · 18/05/2020 21:10

DS didn't seem traumatised after his first day back, was a bit sad at first that most of his favourite friends didn't come back, but otherwise fine. Couldn't get any info out of him about what's it actually like though, we had the usual conversation when I picked him up -
So, DS, what did you do, what did you learn, who did you talk to, what did the teacher say?
DS: I don't remember..
Grin

SheWranglesRugRats · 19/05/2020 09:27

woohoo just had a message from school, they can take DS from next week.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/05/2020 09:46

Why there were so many cases in Alsace - try to pronounce the village names without spitting!

Lol!

AuldAlliance · 19/05/2020 11:23

Excellent news about school She-Ra (I've been hoping for a chance to use that... Wink)

I haven't heard back from DS2's head, but I think he's found other people who will give up their place at the school. Now I feel guilty.

LongPauseNoReply · 19/05/2020 11:27

Thanks everyone. DH has decided to take Friday off so we've a 4 day weekend.

It looks like the 15th of June is the date the border will open to "tourism" Hmm Nothing from the Lycée about DD. It's hardly worth going back for a few weeks seeing as the back isn't happening

KatharinaRosalie · 19/05/2020 12:18

Not even sure what to do with this weekend. There isn't really anything that interesting in 100km radius that we haven't seen, especially as all fun places are still closed.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/05/2020 12:20

School makes such a difference! DS was happy to go and we are all much happier now that we don't have to spend hours on homeschooling while he whines.

thesnoopdragon · 19/05/2020 12:48

I went to our local market this morning.
Everyone was very jolly.
About 75% of people wearing masks.

It was so nice to have a wander round and to put some much needed money back into the local farming community and to come home with lovely fresh fruit and veg.

LongPauseNoReply · 19/05/2020 15:47

There's nothing open here either. Even if we go for a day out we can't buy water, have lunch somewhere other than McDonald's urgh.

My DD took a chance and got the bus into the city. She wasn't stopped at the Douane. I might chance it tomorrow. I'm desperate for a bit of normality!!

@thesnoopdragonnoop that sounds wonderful!

ChateauMargaux · 19/05/2020 16:00

@LongPauseNoReply... lots of places open round the lake at Annecy for take out / snacks and lots of places to stop.

LongPauseNoReply · 19/05/2020 16:03

@ChateauMargaux thanks, we did think of Annecy but we were also thinking that everyone else will head there too Grin

KatharinaRosalie · 19/05/2020 16:29

Ah good that snacks and take outs are open. Might go walk around in some of the villages then, hope it's the same over here - Riquewihr or Eguisheim are really very pretty, if you have not been. Our parks and lakes are still off limits.

CroissantsAtDawn · 21/05/2020 07:03

Found you all again Id lost the thread!

99% of people are wearing masks in my bit of Paris. Some shops its obligatory, some supermarkets now say its highly recommended and the social pressure means you wear one!

School is back next Monday- half classes, 2 half days a week per child....

We ve received a video telling DC how to behave (1m, where to line up, gel hydroalcoolique all the time, teachers wearing masks etc.). We have staggered drop off and pick up times. They have to take stuff in and leave it there. School will continue to set work for home.

The school has even built sinks in the playground - they are taking handwashing very seriously! They've allocated 4m2 space per child in the classroom and 5m2 per child in the playground. DS1 was most upset that they re not allowed to run anymore.

I really hope its more normal in September alrhough the extra sinks are a great addition I think!

It’s nice hearing what things are like in other parts of the country - well, not ‘nice’ but YKWM.

I went shopping yesterday, Lidl, wearing a mask by 27 degree heat wasn’t the best experience but hey ho 😁

They are starting to close some beaches again due to too many incivilités. Not for the first time I wish there was a way of gathering all of these people together and telling them to pack it in!

Watchagotcha · 21/05/2020 08:37

@NoraLuka

Argh Lidl! I went there for the first time in two months to do a Big Shop, as we don’t have one in walking distance, and I’m fed up spending a fortune in our local shops. It was dire! The gel had run out, no one wiping trolleys (as if!), no control of how many in the shop, big family groups including granny and small children, no space! It was horrible and I felt like I needed a shower after. If I develop symptoms in a week or so, I’ll know where I got it!

Booboostwo · 21/05/2020 08:40

Are your DCs managing to wear masks? We went to Kiabi yesterday. DD 8yo managed to keep her mask on all the time but DS 5yo didn’t last very long.

CroissantsAtDawn · 21/05/2020 09:10

My 6 year old managed in the bus but hated it (28 degrees yesterday- not a nice experience with bus and mask) and I occasionally opened it quickly for him to breath easier.

Havent yet tried with the 8 year old but as I need to take him to hospital for an xray today Hmm I ll find out I think!

Wearing masks in this heat in a classroom is really going to be hell. Obviously my classroom is on the top floor and it's south facing.

CroissantsAtDawn · 21/05/2020 09:30

Ugh. How much will you be back?

Our school is continuing the "école hors les murs" which means work set daily on ecoledirecte. The DC in class will be doing the same as those at home (although with a maîtresse to answer questions).

Hence the 2 half days a week so the maitresse is in 2 full days. I still wouldnt fancy it in a mask. Any chance of you getting hold of a visor? They look more comfortable

KatharinaRosalie · 21/05/2020 09:44

Masks mandatory in some shops here, but not supermarkets. Maybe about 50% of people wearing them. Almost nobody outdoors though (haven't been to markets). It does get really hot and sweaty, doesn't it.

At some point when we had those thousands of cases exploding here in Haut Rhin, you could feel how scared and stressed everybody was, but life feels pretty normal again. Except for the borders, were trying to see a couple of friends who all live just a couple of miles away, but as one is in Switzerland and one in Germany and doesn't have a work permit, we cannot actually get together in any of the countries. Not used to even thinking about borders.

SheWranglesRugRats · 21/05/2020 09:51

About 75% mask wearing here in La banlieue . Haven’t even tried with the kids who are six and three.

Makiwa · 21/05/2020 11:20

My 9 year old wore her mask when out to buy sandals and complained that it hurt behind her ears.

She was due back at school Mondays and Tuesdays from the 25th but we've just had an email from her teacher saying that they have had news from their hierarchy that they can no longer welcome the children. More news to be had about that on Monday she said.

CroissantsAtDawn · 21/05/2020 11:46

8 year old struggling with his mask cos its so hot here.

Urgences is pretty empty. Only 2 other children here. We brought our own masks (have to wear them here obviously) and Im glad we did cos the children urgences nurses were so greatful when someone brought them a new box of masks - im glad we didnt take any away from them.

However seeing my DC yesterday and today...im not sure id them to school if they had to wear masks. They fiddle with them a lot and get very hot in them.
