Will the lockdown be lifted for close family next weekend?

OP posts:
booboo24 · 03/05/2020 09:50

Noone knows yet, they have told us we will have a roadmap Thursday, but I highly doubt there will be huge changes by next weekend

PotteringAlong · 03/05/2020 09:51

No one knows!

SpencerReidsMistress · 03/05/2020 09:52

Crystal ball says wait until Thursday. No one knows. Not even Boris at this point.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 03/05/2020 09:52

It would be lovely wouldn’t it?

I imagine that this week we will perhaps have an inkling of what’s to come and a loose sort of a timescale. But changes by this weekend? Sadly I doubt it. I would think we are carrying on as we are for at least another week or two.
Who knows, it’s all speculation right now.
I’m finding bits best to assume this lockdown will remain in place, then if anything does change it will be a welcome surprise.

I hope you’re coping alright OP.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 03/05/2020 09:54

Will the lockdown be lifted for close family next weekend?

I really hope they don’t just lift it for close family because all of mine are hours away. The bubble scheme would at least allow for meeting close friends too.

Lumene · 03/05/2020 09:55

Doubt it

Bol87 · 03/05/2020 10:02

Ireland get to see their families & friends outdoors in a week or so .. boy do I wish I lived there 😭 our govmt seem to have no idea, fantastic 🤦🏼‍♀️

RabbitsGoneRogue · 03/05/2020 10:07

I hope so! Though I too hope they do friends or family as we don’t have any family that we could see!
The bubble approach would be much more flexible and as long as the total number of people seen was the same surely it wouldn’t affect infection rates?

daisymay133 · 03/05/2020 10:09

Yes I think they’ll also issue schools their 3 week notice

It’s all over needs now so I think it’s been leaked

daisymay133 · 03/05/2020 10:09

News not needs

PleasantVille · 03/05/2020 10:14

Probably best to ask those making the decision rather than people who have no clue, you might be lucky if some of SAGE or the COBR committees are posting on MN but that's got to be pretty unlikely.

Patch23042 · 03/05/2020 10:17

It won’t be “close family” because not everyone has it and it’s a pretty loose definition. It’ll be based on matching up households if anything. And yes, I agree OP, i do think it will be announced this week. Rightly so - the point of lockdown was to ease the NHS burden and it’s worked. It’s time to move forward sensibly.

bathsh3ba · 03/05/2020 10:19

It's my birthday on Friday (VE Day). My kids are having a great time planning me a lockdown birthday but I'll be pretty annoyed if the day after, things open up! I doubt it.

pfrench · 03/05/2020 10:19

Definitely.
Or, no.

Best talk to the people on here who claim to go to cobra meetings. Although judging by this shower of a government, I doubt there will be any plan yet. Or even a plan to have a plan.

Bubbles aren't thing.

TheGreatWave · 03/05/2020 10:20

I personally think another 3 weeks to get past the next bank holiday and if appropriate the half term holiday. Restrictions changing from there onwards.

mamamo15 · 03/05/2020 10:54

@HolyMilkBoobiesBatman yeah I'm ok thanks. Not great. 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 03/05/2020 15:21

@mamamo15 some days are harder and seem to last longer than others don’t they? It will pass soon. I wish we could say for certain when, there are too many unknowns and variables.
There is one certainty though; this isn’t forever.

blueangel1 · 03/05/2020 15:24

@TheGreatWave you could be right. Spain are now releasing a few aspects of their lockdown now they are reporting around 150 deaths per day. We are still over 600, and relaxing our measures from the end of next week would be nuts.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/05/2020 15:34

Nothing has been leaked though. Newspapers are making it up out of wishes and wholecloth.

COBR SAGE etc have to meet and the government has yet to make any decisions. They can't make decisions until they have the updated stats.

Some of what various papers have printed will turn out to be true, eventually, because much of it is common sense. But they don't know!

LilacTree1 · 03/05/2020 22:53

It’s all speculation

So here’s mine!

No way will any allowed mixing of family or friends be announced on a bank holiday weekend.

I would be surprised if it’s allowed before June tbh. It pisses me off but that’s what I think.

welshweasel · 03/05/2020 22:59

I think there will be another 3 weeks of lockdown, whilst at the same time encouraging people to go back to work, where they can do so safely. Bigger changes including being able to socialise outdoors and schools reopening in some form from 1st June. But really who knows?!

Chillipeanuts · 03/05/2020 23:04

Extremely unlikely , would have thought.

jelly79 · 03/05/2020 23:27

I think people are starting to relax more (wrongly) so I think to lift anything before a (sunny) bank holiday weekend would be the wrong decision.

My opinion is communicate a plan this week that will start in 3 weeks

DishingOutDone · 03/05/2020 23:34

you planning a BBQ OP?!

middleager · 03/05/2020 23:35

The Govt often talks about what it might do without doing it.
And U-turns.

Big teasers.
