What realistic changes would you like to see coming?

Id really like

  • more than one walk a day (heavily pregnant and one walk is always short and not enough but i need a rest)
  • drive to exercise (mainly so i can have a nice flat walk)
  • see close family (mainly as i know it means a lot to other people)
  • garden centres reopening

Ideally I'd like national trust gardens open again but i dont think thats realistic so not on my list.

I think dentists have to be a priority for people with problems if not for routine check-ups. Dental pain is awful and trying to manage it with painkillers for more than a few days is really problematic.

NeedingCoffee · 02/05/2020 07:51

Definitely dentists and orthodontists. Interestingly we have friends in mainland Hong Kong and evening though schools etc were closed very early on the dentists and orthodontists have never closed there.

Also garden centres, takeaways and other shops to be allowed to open on the same basis as supermarkets. Some would choose not to as not economically viable, which is fine, but it would be great if they were available.

drcb83 · 02/05/2020 07:55

IVF clinics to reopen....I am getting old and need to crack on!! I think they in general have been given permission to....but I need my chosen one to reopen

cathyandclare · 02/05/2020 07:59

Definitely opening up outdoor spaces, with social distancing. Parks, beaches, golf courses etc. Allow people to sit on the grass and top up their vitamin D.
Garden centres and non essential shops with controls on numbers.
Opening Cafes/ restaurants/pubs with gardens or terraces would be lovely too, not holding my breath for that though!
I'd really like to see my parents and DD too ( parents are 5 hours away and DD 3hours away)

Marmite27 · 02/05/2020 08:02

I’d like ikea to open. Social distancing in place obviously. Maybe booking a slot online rather than queueing outside?

Mixing of up to two households indoors, this is so my brother and I could meet at my parents. We have kids the same age so would be an ideal solution.

Outdoor gatherings of up to 5 households with no food sharing. A PP mentioned 10, but I think that’s too many.

Passthecake30 · 02/05/2020 08:10

I’d like there to be a way of seeing my mum, who lives 100 miles away - not really feasible to drive there for a quick chat on the driveway.

More realistically, maybe - I’d like the kids to go back to school for half days/alternate days. Ds - for his emotional confidence, Dd - so she maximises the abilities she has.

hepburnmed · 02/05/2020 08:19

Schools - 1/2 days a week per child, even if it’s a shorter day.

Dead town centres to open outdoor cafes, with SD. Wear your fleece. Bring your own cup. Table service.

Drive through / open-air cinema in every town, suitable ground permitting.

Hairdressers... thought I know it’s unlikely :(

Temperature checks at train stations, airports

greenlynx · 02/05/2020 08:37

All non urgent NNS treatment resumed.
Mental health services resumed.
Dentist and orthodontist reopening
Tips reopening.
Garden centers and building shops reopening.

rookiemere · 02/05/2020 08:57

I'd like to add another for my work colleague to get the steroid injections she needs to reduce her crippling back pain that were cancelled due to Coronavirus NHS restrictions. Fingers crossed that will be sorted out soon for her.

rookiemere · 02/05/2020 08:58

Oh and my hair is really annoying me today - it's very thick and the hairdresser thins it - so I would like that to be a priority although I'm not sure it can be.

KatherineJaneway · 02/05/2020 08:59

Gyms reopening.

SomewhereNow · 02/05/2020 09:31

Being able to see my OH again and preferably my family but they are older and further away so may not be practical.

And I really need a haircut 🤦🏻

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 02/05/2020 09:33

@Time40 i think people with gardens have been pottering in them a lot during lockdown, massively helps some peoples mental health

I think Hong Kong had less PPE issues to whoever was mentioning dentists stayed open there.

Lets hope for some good news coming this week Smile

Want weddings to restart, even if by Zoom!

Mascotte · 02/05/2020 12:22

@Time40 all their stock is grown for a cerise time and will die if not used. They'll be ruined.

booboo24 · 02/05/2020 12:39

Mixing of households (2) as I haven't seen my fiance for 6 weeks but he lives 90 miles away...

Seeing parents over 70 outside for 10 mins a day, ie sat in their garden

Phased return to school for primary aged children and yr 11, 12 and 13. Rest to restart in September inc universities.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 02/05/2020 14:10

Definitely garden centres, need some new plants and compost! Love to wander through the plants

Hairdresser/beautician is top of my list though, the 2 I go to are very small businesses one in one out type affairs, I know my hairdresser has just completed a barbicide? Course and a full update in salon hygiene as well as looking into other ways of operating safely

Visiting my family

MinesaBottle · 02/05/2020 20:50

I’d love to be able to see my mum but she’s 300 miles away, in Wales whereas I’m in England and we don’t have a car. So I don’t imagine that’ll be any time soon.

And to be able to meet friends outdoors would be lovely. A couple of my close friends live alone and this has been really hard for them.

Blondiecub0109 · 02/05/2020 20:57

Realistically, play parks to reopen and paediatric appointments to resume (separate children’s hospital) so that we can find out what DS is actually allergy too and how severely so that we can actually manage it.

Less realistically, daycare, parkrun, swimming lessons, being able to see family (all at least 500 miles)

Blondiecub0109 · 02/05/2020 21:02

@drcb83 our clinic has said that from 11 May they can apply to HEFA to have their social distancing/infection control protocols assessed which will lead to be open. So depends I guess on how the assessment process is done.

I haven’t commented on the IVF thread as there’s a lot of dementors on there but obviously there’s a lot of money in IVF ... our clinic is mixed NHS/private and will be losing $$$$

drcb83 · 02/05/2020 21:54

@Blondiecub0109 that is so cool! Super excited. Me eggs neeeeeed a fertilising soon!!
