What realistic changes would you like to see coming?

Id really like

  • more than one walk a day (heavily pregnant and one walk is always short and not enough but i need a rest)
  • drive to exercise (mainly so i can have a nice flat walk)
  • see close family (mainly as i know it means a lot to other people)
  • garden centres reopening

Ideally I'd like national trust gardens open again but i dont think thats realistic so not on my list.

I think you're supposed to exercise longer than you drive for which I'm not sure I'd manage right now Blush I think that I'd like to come in more once bump arrives so I don't have to push the double pram up huge hills.

Shielding park time is a brilliant idea!

I think swimming the risk would be the changing rooms?! I'd love to float around in a pool right now.

Seeing my family and best friend.
Allowing some shops to reopen. I like the garden centre idea.

AnyFucker · 01/05/2020 17:32

I'd like to stay at my holiday home. I understand it was prohibited to travel to second homes so that local NHS facilities were not overwhelmed but it is clear now there is spare capacity.

I am working on the Frontline, am on my knees, and I need a proper break.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 17:33

I do miss shops....people are being stupid enough in supermarkets alone here though so I'm not sure I'd go if they reopen yet.

I'm going to be a bit selfish and say for the hospitals to resume routine appointments. I'm waiting for a CPAP machine for sleep apnoea (diagnosed in December) and I don't know when I'll get one Sad
Also for my kids to be able to go to the park and see their grandparents and aunties/ uncles

ParkheadParadise · 01/05/2020 17:34

I would love to be able to
Walk out my door with dh and dd. Stop off at the swing park on our way to the pub. On arrival order a bottle of wine to go with my steak, onion rings, veg and chips. Hot chocolate fudge cake for afters and ice cream.
Sit in the pub for hours people watching. On the way home drop in to my sister's house where dd will ask if she can stayover.
Dh and I will head home and open another bottle, the next morning we would go out for breakfast before collecting dd.🤣🤣🤣
Don't think this will be happening anytime soon

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 17:34

@AnyFucker i think you should definitely be allowed a weekend at your second home to recover. If anyone deserves it, its those in your position

Ratoncita · 01/05/2020 17:37

Dentists open again!

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 17:37

@Heartofglass12345 i am really hopeful for you that it wont be long for normal NHS services to resume. Its not selfish, many are in your position

For those saying dentists, earliest will be July - the Chief Dental Officer said this on a webinar last week.
Also we need full PPE because we do aerosol generating procedures and there isn’t any available at present. Even the hubs haven’t got any. Maybe by July?
Brush your teeth folks

AnyFucker · 01/05/2020 17:45

Thanks @Bubblesbubblesmybubbles it is very easy to social distance there. I would literally take some food then stay in for a straight 48 hours.

daisypond · 01/05/2020 17:50

I wouldn’t think gyms would open. All those hot and sweaty people, breathing hard, in close proximity.

weegiemum · 01/05/2020 17:52

I'd love to be able to go to our 2nd home. Dh is a GP and hasn't had any holidays and we'd love to get out into the wilds again, though we understand totally (having lived there before we moved to our current city) why we're not going there right now.

I'd love to be able to see family. Dd1 is 20 and lives 15 mins drive away and I miss her terribly. Also my parents are an hour away and we really miss them too. Ds is 18 and has said one of the first things he wants to do (after going to the pub!) is visit Gran and Grandpa! Possibly mil too but it's a more complicated journey requiring a flight or a ferry, so we assume that will come later.

caffeinebuzz · 01/05/2020 17:53

Nurseries to reopen would be brilliant, although may be a while given the difficulty of social distancing toddlers.

Otherwise, being able to mix with 1/2 other households as normal. My parents live abroad but would be lovely to let in-laws meet newborn DS before he grows out of the new baby stage completely.

Titsywoo · 01/05/2020 17:56

Orthodonists to reopen - my sons brace is causing several issues but since he isn't in pain they won't help him. This will add months to his treatment and getting a brace on a child with ASD and sensory issues was hard enough in the first place!

1forAll74 · 01/05/2020 17:56

To be able to leisurely wander around a good garden centre, to choose some new plants and shrubs. I never use the coffee shops and cafe's that they sometimes have.

imsooverthisdrama · 01/05/2020 17:59

See close family
Garden centres open
Schools open
And I know it'll be a way off but hairdressers please .

TheBlueBottles · 01/05/2020 17:59

Dentists with PPE.

Also what about opticians? I need my glasses fixed.

Cycling clubs.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 17:59

Im not convinced about gyms either (not that I'm bothered....almost grateful!) but the sweaty recycled air can't be conducive to keeping the R down.

Nurseries, I'd love a safe way to do so but I can't see one.

Glad dentists are being kept safe from unneeded

I'd like to give my MIL a hug.

I would love, love then to somehow do the bubble thing so we can see just a few other people.

I'd like the closed car parks at all parks and woods to be reopened. We are semi-rural and I really think most of the places near us would be fine as long as it was done quietly so hordes didn't turn up.

pfrench · 01/05/2020 18:07

To take children to see grandparents - at a distance, in the garden, in the queue for a supermarket, whatever. I noticed my elderly neighbour had her children around earlier - they went through the garage and sat at the end of her garden with masks on, drinking a cup of tea she'd put there earlier.

Dentists definitely.

Second home visits. As an owner of a place somewhere else, I'd like to go to it. I don't see why that should be stopped anymore, so long as we socially distance when we're there. It's my house, I don't know how long they can stop you going there for officially - I know that we could go in theory, but hostile locals makes it pointless. The locals would need to have official guidance altered so they stop shouting at people in the streets.

CeeJay81 · 01/05/2020 18:12

I'd like the local playground to open to keep the kids happy.

I'd like to be able to meet up with a friend, even if it was just standing 2 meters apart in the garden.

I'm sure i'll get hounded for this one but.. when they allow people to travel I would like Wales to close it's border accept for work/hospital reasons. Unrealistic I know lol but if people start flocking from the Midlands, like they do every summer we could end up with a lot more cases and deaths here.

MissElizaBennett · 01/05/2020 18:13

Large outdoor spaces like gardens, beaches and parkland (e.g. National Trust type places), perhaps with limited bookable entry/parking slots to ensure no overcrowding.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 18:14

@pfrench yes our neighbour has been doing similar. Their children and grandchildren walk to hers, sit at the far end of her garden (at least 4m away) on a blanket they bring and have food and drink they bring and chat. They then head off home. I wont be reporting as they've got it SO well organised, it helps her mental health (we were very worried about her) and (albeit against the rules) they aren't putting her at risk at all

@CeeJay81 with the way wales has been disproportionately hit I think thats a very fair want
