What realistic changes would you like to see coming?

Id really like

  • more than one walk a day (heavily pregnant and one walk is always short and not enough but i need a rest)
  • drive to exercise (mainly so i can have a nice flat walk)
  • see close family (mainly as i know it means a lot to other people)
  • garden centres reopening

Ideally I'd like national trust gardens open again but i dont think thats realistic so not on my list.

Hi. If you have mobility issues (presumably this included pregnancy) you can go out for more than 1 walk

Also you are allowed to drive for exercise as long as you exercise for longer than the drive

dementedpixie · 01/05/2020 16:54

There is no actual law on number of walks you can go on (except if you are in wales).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/05/2020 16:54

Realistic?

Able to visit family. Able to go out more than once a day, have picnics on the park etc with social distancing.

mayoral · 01/05/2020 16:54

Regulated class sizes for toddler play groups and/or music classes.

Open air playgrounds to be reopen.

I have 2 toddlers who are running around like feral animals after all this time in lockdown.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 16:54

I feel my neighbours are the reporting type Hmm

Its a good 20 minute drive to a flat walk so it seems too much when thats about all i can walk for at the moment Blush

@mayoral i feel your pain with the feral animal toddler!

Meeting other households in the outdoors. Maybe maximum groups of 10, no sharing of food and staying apart by 2 m but allowed to be together in parks, beaches and gardens.

Return of parkrun (unrealistic)
Return of small groups meeting in village halls (slimming groups, yoga, choirs) also unrealistic 😢

Maybe once they allow group gatherings up to 100 some of those could restart but it would be complicated to limit numbers.

I think more realistic is socially distanced shopping in clothes shops etc but I don’t miss that so much.

Hollyhead · 01/05/2020 17:04

I would like us to be able to choose 2 other households we can liase with as normal.

Allowed to socialise with others at a distance outdoors - so visit elderly people but sit in garden (most people I know are doing this anyway)

Garden centres to open with same operational approach as supermarkets

Cafes opening for take away

1-2 days at school per week for DC

Runningfar · 01/05/2020 17:04

Realistic? Gosh. I'd like the tip to reopen. I'd also like my favourite takeaway to reopen.

Outdoor playgrounds would be great.

Schools. I really can't guess whether that could be June or new academic year.

Maybe less realistic I'd absolutely love for my ds to be able to return to Scouts, swimming and football.

Hollyhead · 01/05/2020 17:06

Yes to outdoor play areas, especially in villages, harder in towns but in our village it’s only ever one family at a time anyway.

TJH130 · 01/05/2020 17:08

There’s no law in exercising more than once a day unless you live in Wales or the State of Mumsnet

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 01/05/2020 17:11

Years 10 and 12 and primary school to go back even if on alternate days.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/05/2020 17:11

Schools to reopen, even if it's just 10kids per class, 1 day a week.

Would love to be able for parents/PILs to visit or vice versa, but that's 200 miles so probably not realistic for another month or two.

FrameByFrame · 01/05/2020 17:11

Earlier treatment for Covid type symptoms
Designated hospitals to treat non-covid patients with serious conditions.
Dentists given PPE so they can re-open(maybe one hub in each area)

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 01/05/2020 17:12

Places of exercise to open (gyms, swimming pool, sports activities etc).
Allowed to have visitors to your home.
Play parks to open.
Travel to visit family in other cities.

*I’m not sure any of this is realistic.

ihatethecold · 01/05/2020 17:12

Definitely garden centres opening with social distancing in place.

TJH130 · 01/05/2020 17:14

Oh definitely dentists. These regional emergency centres aren’t fit for purpose and impossible to access.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 01/05/2020 17:15

Some really good and feasible ideas.

I definitely agree with the 'covid' and 'covid free' hospitals!! And dentists with PPE

Tip reopening would be very handy too!!

Id love the parks and picnics socially distanced but i think that would be so tough in cities.

Sorry I should have explained I'm having a down day and need some realistic positive ideas that may happen (may well not but its nice to think of things which could happen without negative impacts)

Tips to reopen, although I think this is quite likely as I've heard a report that the government has requested LA's to action this to stop the increase of fly tipping.

TempsPerdu · 01/05/2020 17:21

Minor point but I’d love our local council to ‘reopen’ all the park benches they’ve taped up - twice now I’ve had to help elderly walkers who needed to rest but were unable to find anywhere to sit down. Always struck me as a petty and counterproductive measure.

I’d also love outdoor playgrounds to reopen and restrictions around seeing wider family to be relaxed. Would love nurseries to return too but less realistic at this stage I think.

aliasname · 01/05/2020 17:22

Government to restart driving tests again. DS was literally about to sit his test the day after lockdown, and it means job applications etc are more limited.

On the plus side, he's been driving so much since then that I think he's guaranteed to pass first time.

JackChaffinch · 01/05/2020 17:23

Drive to your flat walk Bubbles. I would. It's not even against the rules is it?

I think maybe swimming pools could reopen. Wouldn't all the chlorine kill the virus?

I'd like to see a "shielding" hour or two in the park now and then or at National Trust gardens even if it was only once a week or a month. For people without gardens it must be pretty horrid being absolutely stuck indoors for months on end.

I'd like the swings etc to reopen for the children even if it had to be staffed by all those "Sam" volunteers who have nothing to do to make sure it was only a few children at a time. Or one family at a time.

Maybe families could have a dated beach visit voucher so the kids could have a socially distant paddle?

What about running outdoor activities for the children in the summer before they go back to school in September? Assuming they do.

Fallsballs · 01/05/2020 17:27

Dentists

Pootle40 · 01/05/2020 17:27

Being allowed to take my children to the park or beach. Being allowed to see a handful of family and friends. The rest I can live with
