I am not. I am referring to increased posts on a Covid-19 Facebook group and peoples comments on posts, news links and news websites

I'm unsure if people are just getting twitchy or they genuinely believe this isn't a real thing??

OP posts:
slipperywhensparticus · 30/04/2020 19:28

@LilacTree1

I mean they all attack me demanding to know how I know the virus isnt fake who do I know in real life who has died of it or tested positive for it

I'm not in a hotspot I literally know no one! Personally myself and the kids showed symptoms but it didnt really pass the flu test for me (example being your poor your hungry there is fifty quid blowing about in your garden do you go get it if yes it's not flu if you really cannot chances are you have flu) although my sons did show classic symptoms they were mild and surprisingly the 11 year old was quite poorly with it (its normally the 7 year old that is hit hardest)

According to them that proves their point

slipperywhensparticus · 30/04/2020 19:31

Fwiw I believe the virus is real and people are dying

It's not 5G
It's not bill gates
It's not the government

LilacTree1 · 30/04/2020 19:34

Sadie I think UBI has been unpopular because it can be a disincentive to work?

Sadie789 · 30/04/2020 19:35

Well that won’t be a problem when everyone except public sector is unemployed - bingo!

LilacTree1 · 30/04/2020 19:35

Slippery you think the virus is fake?!

slipperywhensparticus · 30/04/2020 19:36

@catinasplat

Try this I honestly think she is referring to the herd immunity thing not that they are deliberately infecting people

slipperywhensparticus · 30/04/2020 19:37

No @LilacTree1

Everyone else thinks its fake I'm just saying I csnt prove it to them because we are living in an area with very few cases

BackseatCookers · 30/04/2020 19:38

@Sadie789 ok so stop talking in odd riddles - share what you think is happening and what your reasoning is so people can engage in a sensible dialogue about it. All the nudge nudge wink wink stuff as if the 'sheep' are all stupid doesn't do any favours to anyone. If you believe something enough to insinuate it then explain it...

Bringringbring12 · 30/04/2020 19:39

@Sadie789
Bizarre you seem so adamant that you’re not a conspiratorialist

And yet even describing the journalism process you present sweeping, non-factual guess work as fact.

**
Take a moment to digest what you are told by a (22 year old media graduate) journalist and understand how they have taken a tiny piece of information that they themselves have not checked for accuracy or source,
and reframed it for maximum impact (clicks, shares, ad revenue). And that’s what the majority of people are working off... why would you NOT challenge that?**

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 30/04/2020 19:41

Sorry to be thick...this 5G theory.... so they think an illness is being created by radio waves or something and its not actually a virus ?
I read all sorts of conspiracy theories for fun and most of the time I can see their angle even though I think its silly. Flat earth = yes of course I can see people used to believe that.
But 5G I cant get my head around, there seems to be too many holes in that !

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 30/04/2020 19:44

I am not a conspiracy nut, honest Grin

But that virus did not come from a wet market. Come on! Largest virology lab in China in Wuhan, western scientists not allowed access. State secret developed weaponised viruses.

The virus may have escaped by accident (human error) and Chinese state tried to hush it and contain it before realising it was too late

Or it could be a test case. Now they know how the world will react, and next time it’s a deadlier virus?

What was Russia doing in the channel when it started? They were testing UK military response

Could be China and Russia working together, who knows.

Am perplexed why everyone accepts China’s explanation about the bats at the wet market

Mordred · 30/04/2020 19:45

@slipperywhensparticus

"Because there is a coronavirus vaccine for cows which proves its fake it's been here for years it's not new"

Even spookier, the root of the word 'vaccine' is Italian for 'cow' (vacca).

I'd wonder why this is, but I learned about it when I was 12.

Sadie789 · 30/04/2020 19:45

@Bringringbring12 I work in MSM. I sit on a news desk.

Far from sweeping, non factual guesswork, it is indeed fact.

Six “digital producers” all of whom are under 25 currently produce the entire news content of a national newspaper. The content which is shared widely, then interpreted and disseminated again at a micro level by thousands of Karens on social media, WhatsApp, and over the fence.

If I say much more it would be outing, but this is one thing I know about. Almost everything you read now, online, even from supposedly established and reputable news publishers has been created by inexperienced (cheap) labour, who have the power to hit publish on their own work without it being checked by anyone else more senior or experienced.

Challenge what you read.

slipperywhensparticus · 30/04/2020 19:49

From what I can gather "5G makes you sick" there is a guy on you tube who proves it with a tree there is s new 5G mast the side of the tree closest the mast looks dead the other half looks alive chances are they damaged the tree putting the mast in place though especially as the hedge behind the mast is green and healthy 🤔

Theory two, china installed 5G first (I actually have no idea if that's actually true) that's why they got sick first which doesnt explain cases in rural india does Iran have 5G? does India? Russia? America?

Theory three seems to run along the lines of my mate down the pub says that his uncle knew a bloke who installed them (or had one installed by his home) and he DIED

None of these are credible but scared people believe them

Sadie789 · 30/04/2020 19:50

What I don’t understand is if 5G makes you sick or is being blamed for all this, then why was everyone cool with 4G?

2outof3Mightbebad · 30/04/2020 19:51

The 'empty hospitals' thing is relatively recent as lots of people don't understand that the NHS isn't a homogeneous mass and are very easily influenced by the media

So many people were looking at SM and widespread media reports of COVID responses which were not at all representative of the NHS as a whole and thinking every area/hospital was going through hell, overwhelmed by COVID and unable to cope. Which wasn't true. so that becoming clearer is a good thing.

The 'no-ones adhering to the rules' has existed since the first day. It isn't backed up with the suprising higher than expected levels of compliance.

Look at MN. Some threads have been reporting widespread non-compliance from the first day. Then worse at weekends. Easter they were predicting a new peak from all the non-compliance.

And every day since. It's still daily; 'has lockdown finished?' based on their neighbours. Or how many cars on the road when they were also driving. But they had a reason and the others probably didn't obviously.

It's very boring.

BackseatCookers · 30/04/2020 19:52

If I say much more it would be outing, but this is one thing I know about.

I could tell you... but I'd have to kill you...

I know this makes you think you sound very important and impressive but if you were as close to a national/ international coverup as you seem to be implying, you're wasted on vague and purposefully non specific posts in mumsnet.

ACertainSupermarket · 30/04/2020 19:53

Maybe...it was 'planted' in Wuhan as there would be 2 credible sources to blame for its origin??
With the NHS on virtual media blackout/gagged, it is a little hard to tell how real it is. And it seems odd that although we are supposed to be having the worst numbers in Europe, the Nightingales are having very little use.
I'm another one who knows nobody who has had it confirmed let alone died. Lots of friends and colleagues claiming to have had a 'bad cough that lasted weeks earlier in the year. One local person published in the media died.

Noextremes2017 · 30/04/2020 19:54

No question it is real but the problem is there will always be doubt when we are lectured to by people like Boris Johnson who everyone knows has a history of lying - both as a journalist and a politician and allegedly in his private life too.
When someone like Johnson says 'I am going to level with you' then you can be absolutely certain he is going to deliver another lie. It is what he is!
If we actually had credible leaders who understood the concept of being honest; showing integrity; and leading by example then people would not question the situation so much.
But combine serial liars (Johnson) and lightweight clowns (Hancock) and what do people expect?
They say you get the leaders you deserve. This crisis has shown that we obviously don't deserve much.

pointythings · 30/04/2020 19:55

TheHumans so are you saying that the 1918 flu must also have been engineered? Because that originated in pig farms in Kansas. This is how viruses work. They come from animal populations, they mutate, they make the jump. Why is this one different because there is a lab near its point of origin?

Correlation does not equal causation.

catinasplat · 30/04/2020 19:56

slipperywhensparticus thanks. How odd! I think she either means herd immunity or perhaps meant to say that we have not tested enough of the population with the virus. Either way, a very unfortunate way of expressing it!

Bringringbring12 · 30/04/2020 19:57

“Fact” for one national newspaper.
In your original post, you of course don’t make that clear but give the impression it applies across the board. You are also force to evasive about the paper in question (convenient given the enormous gulf between, let’s say the Sun and the Financial Times) . Classic conspiracy theorist approach.

Mordred · 30/04/2020 19:57

By the way, it's not 'Hancock' it's 'Handcock', because he's a bit of a wanker.

itsgettingweird · 30/04/2020 19:58

There's always someone out there Grin

My mums and dads chemo has continued the whole way through this. Dad has now finished. Their appointments have been over the phone and can email consultants anytime they want which they could do before this.
Ds had his neurology appointment via phone call. All fine and within 2 days had a new appointment for 6 months as it's a physical disability so needs to be seen. So even though things have been put on hold (my routine smear) hospitals seem to have capacity to move things back a few months rather than waiting another year or so.

LilacTree1 · 30/04/2020 19:58

slippery I’d ask them how many people they know who are HIV positive.
