Why are Royal Mail agreeing to deliver poisonous propaganda

At any time, let alone when their service is currently so abysmal.

I do not wish to receive disgusting American propaganda delivered by the postman - but I expect RM have been paid well enough to deliver it.

Does our mail service have no standards?

Why are Royal Mail agreeing to deliver poisonous propaganda

Please consider the consequences of what you're demanding; do you really want the Royal Mail to have editorial control over the flow of information?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/04/2020 19:07

For those of you saying RM has no responsibility for what it sends I'm afraid you are wrong.

RM have a very large list of prohibited items including (for example) obscene publications and unlawful indecent images.

Royal Mail are a universal service provider. They don’t vet the items they are asked to post, or censor the contents of postal packets. I doubt RM even knew it existed.

It looks like a horrible rag, but don’t blame Royal Mail for that. Calling for an ‘account manager’ to be ‘fucking fired’ is ridiculous and unfair.

forgetthehousework · 28/04/2020 19:09

Send it back, wrapped round something heavy and with no postage on it at all!

Gronky · 28/04/2020 19:09

obscene publications and unlawful indecent images

Those items are illegal to sell (and, in some cases, possess), through the post or otherwise.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 28/04/2020 19:09

Move to North Korea. I’m sure they censor what people are allowed to post out.

Either you believe in freedom of speech or you don’t. If you only believe in your own bubble of ideas that isn’t freedom of expression.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 19:11

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

Is it an obscene publication or does it contain unlawful indecent images? If so, then report it to Royal Mail who will, I’m sure, take action.

ChipotleBlessing · 28/04/2020 19:14

Epoch Times is Falun Gong isn’t it? It’s not exactly American propaganda. And where what the publication says is legal, then Royal Mail have no right to censor its delivery, whatever you think of the content.

safariboot · 28/04/2020 19:15

It is quite right that Royal Mail does not attempt to censor the post!

As mentioned, "obscene publications" are illegal full stop.

@Thighmageddon the OP has posted a photo of the envelope so it looks like it was

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/04/2020 19:22

Well yes, but ‘stuff I don’t agree with’ isn’t among it.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/04/2020 19:27

@Loveletters123

No - this was not in an envelope (as already stated). The photo was of the back of the magazine which had the address on it.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 19:28

If only there were a well-known phrase to describe this situation.

“Stabbing the deliverer”?
“Strangling the postal provider”?

I just can’t put my finger on it...

SylvanianFrenemies · 28/04/2020 19:30

Do you want the Royal Mail to start opening and checking post before sending? Don't be daft.

SylvanianFrenemies · 28/04/2020 19:30

😆 @ItsGoingTibiaK

EvilEdna1 · 28/04/2020 19:38

We got one too. We live in a very safe Tory seat (unfortunately). Maybe that's the target..more likely to be a right wing loon.

zscaler · 28/04/2020 19:43

@ItsGoingTibiaK 🤣🤣🤣

LochJessMonster · 28/04/2020 19:46

Grin This

newrubylane · 28/04/2020 20:13

We got one too. Pretty blatant propaganda. (That's not to say there might not be an element of truth to some of it, of course.) Also a safe Tory seat. I wonder if there's a way to block mail addressed only to 'the occupier'?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/04/2020 20:22

@ItsGoingTibiaK

That link won't stop this - it was addressed to 'the occupier' at my address.

OP posts:
ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 20:25

I know. The pp asked if they could stop “the occupier” mail and i provided a link that answered their question.

vera99 · 28/04/2020 20:28

I wish they would stop delivering parking tickets. Grin

ArriettyJones · 28/04/2020 20:28

Well if it was addressed and postage paid for, the it’s not part of the RM junk leaflet thing, and they were legally obliged to deliver it as addressed.

I’d be more annoyed with the sender. Return it to their address with no or inadequate stamps attached. Then they’ll have the hassle and expense of arranging to receive it.
